QA'd my first ILP today. - you got to be kidding

Horrendous, absolutely horrendous. It felt like I was editing an ASR report. If they are all like this one, then I have no worries about losing my job to the Indians because once the clients see the garbage that is coming out of there, they will be begging for the USA.

Yet another reason why editors should start demanding - a LOT more money! nm

I did demand more money for my work and got it. Over a period of 4 to 5 months I sent report after report after report of certain docs and/or just plain old bad dictators to the "support" team. I showed them the before and after product, had documented how much time was spent turning garbage into an actual readable and comprehensible document that would stand on its own should it ever be needed in court. I also complained and complained and complained to my CCM. I got my raise. I don't think enough people know that you can "flag" a dictator, request sample reports from difficult dictators, and demand actual help over and over again until you get it.

Sure it takes some time, but as long as we're stuck here waiting for something better to come along, what's a few minutes out of your day to show a crud report to our support team and ask them "if you can make heads or tails of it, HELP ME OUT HERE".

I got 12 dictators taken off ASR and got tons of sample reports in the repository now. I feel like I made a tiny nick, I'm counting on all you to help ake a big giant dent in this!

the only way it is going to happen is if you become proactive. Do NOT allow this foreign operation to devour you. You know your worth, FIGHT FOR IT!

I got not a fraction of a cent pay increase, but a few whole cent raise. I'm not going to say how much, just believe me, it made a difference.

Lets help each other out and demand that they provide us with the tools to do our job to the best of our abilities.

So you cleaned up the mess and made it right, for a rate of 4 cpl? Where are the clients going to see this horrible report and do you really think they care? Again, hospitals are owned by corporations now, doctors are employees, just like us and they have to put with the same things we do, when it comes to dictation. Eventually they will be doing it, not the MTs in the US. I hope I am wrong, I truly do, but we are on a sinking ship, but it is sinking drop by drop.

When it all boils down, all that clients care about is what is cheapest. They've been accepting this junk and thereby condoning it for over 10 years. The last time I worked inhouse, the few doctors who actually read their transcribed reports complained, and all that happened was just those doctors stayed inhouse. CB still gets the work, and, according to my friend who still works in that hospital, the quality is still horrendous, but the doctors just continue signing reports. :(

Since obviously the hospitals don't care about the quality and are just interested in profits (at least until a patient dies & they get sued...), my dad said we should be holding the DOCTORS responsible for this since their signature goes on each report, and that we should all be writing to every local paper telling people what's going on & how their personal information and medical information is being handled overseas, how bad the quality is, how HIPAA laws don't apply overseas, etc., and suggest that the readers all start questioning their own doctors about who is transcribing their medical reports and put the pressure on the doctors themselves...! I thought it was a really good idea.

Do we know for a fact that HIPAA does not apply overseas? It is supposed to cover the transfer of electronic health records. If a violation occurs, wouldn't the American MTSO who sent the work offshore be held liable? I would think the responsibility lies with the contractor to make sure that all their employees and subcontractors comply with the regulations.

Not exactly, if they felt they were in the right, which they ALWAYS do (God Syndrome) that it WILL come back on all of us MT/MEs. They NEVER take the responsibility when it comes to their dictation.

This isnt about a Dr syndrom, it is a legal issue.He is - ultimately responsibile. BTW, its HIPAA.

By signing the document, the doctor says he/she has read and approves the document. They can fire us all they want, but they are ultimately responsible.

Okay guys, I do not profess that I am a lawyer or know anything about legalities. I know all about HIPPA. I worked in a hospital for 20 years. I worked around doctors. I know what they are all about. They are right, you are wrong. I am not saying that about every one of them, but there have been a few. I understand where you are coming from. God, don't get your feathers all ruffled. I am just stating what I had endured when I was working in a hospital.

Think is misleading to speak of personal experience as - the as way things are from legal standpoint. nm

For the first time in my almost 40 years of this work I am starting to see disclaimers by some docs on their reports. These are statements at the end that say something like - This is only a summary and may contain omissions and errors; please see hospital chart. Gee - I wonder why they are doing this.

They don't see it. We in the US clean it up first. - NM

You make that statement, like you think people care! Sorry to say, it is all bottom line and the hospitals and doctors could care less, like stated above. I have given up on the big companies to work for, it isn't worth it. On top of the horrible pay and voice and ESLs, not to mention how they treat you, I just had to get out. I still transcribe, but I am an IC and do clinic notes and at least I don't feel like a piece of dirt everyday or being held hostage by the horrible treatment that only MQ and so many others for that matter, dishes out. They lie and cheat and get away with it and we are the ones who suffer and it will continue, because that is the way it is now.

I used to be an IC before a big company took over the hospital I was doing. I share you feelings based on the company I am currently with. How can I find IC work online? All the offices in my state have gone to big companies.

That bad ILP is your job security. Many OS are now doing - VR, sending to client and bypassing US edit. nm

Just wondering what an ILP is. I have an interview with MQ this week because the company I work for virtually eliminated the QA department, and now there is no work. This company is doing exactly what I find on this board that MQ does. They recently started using DQS, they are sending ASR work OS and now are allowing the OS companies to QA it and send it directly to the client, skipping U.S. QA (thus, no work for us in QA). I'm wondering if the company is being bought by MQ and we aren't being told. I just wanted to know what ILP is in case I run into it at MQ. Thanks!

Unable to log on because DQS needs to be updated. Then can't update on DocuManage because there's no link. They tell me they someone will call back and help me, but they have no way of knowing when. DQS is driving me crazy today. When I push the pedal, it takes a couple seconds to start playing. If I let off the pedal, it keeps going for a couple seconds and I can't get it to stop. The typing I am doing does not keep up with my finger speed either, with words not showing up until after I've typed them. I use my own computer and have never encountered this issue before. It is a major hindrance though, slowing me down. What's next? ...

Sad though because I wasn't offered anything PT (not that I would had taken it), and nobody said "we'll be happy to take you back". AND....no exit interview. I just received notice that my line rate is decreasing 1 cpl. A year and a half ago it had dropped 1 cpl also... and all as an IC. This will hurt. But what to do? I will stay as it is good work, good management, I know most of the accounts.... some are buggers though.. Only 7-1/2 years until I can retire to at least part time... hope I can survive until then. No way can I put in anymore hours than I already am. I am hoping for an after-school babysitting job ...
