I don't know if there are any left. The smaller companies that still have straight typing would be what I would want. I only worked for Spheris and Nuance. Softscript sucks, TTS sounds like it sucks. So you gotta start the process of deduction. Good luck. I personally would like on your local newspaper on line and start looking for something you're qualified for. Also look at your local hospitals and look for jobs you can qualify for. Some of them are really hard to get into. They want you not to smoke and will test you. They want a detailed list of professional references. But I would not even want to work for a transcription company unless it landed in my lap and was straight typing. You can work at Walmart and make more money than what these goofy MTSO's pay.

True - was just taking a shot in the dark here. EPIC's killing us, like we all know, and I think I'm just flat out getting tired of the whole transcription world and fighting for work. Maybe time for a career change - would love to get into billing but don't have time to go back to school and one's hard pressed to find a hospital/office that will train you. So tired of bull@#%^! Uuugh! Thank you for your thoughts. :)

Sometimes, I'm ashamed to be an MT - sm

I remember a time when people would help someone who was out of work/looking for a better job. They would help to get them a job with their current employer. This field has become so cut-throat, sometimes I'm ashamed to be a part of it. Maybe if we all only applied at the "good companies", the rotten, greedy MTSOs would have to raise the rates they pay us and create a little competition to get the good MTs to work for them. Instead, they lower their rates and people are still flocking to them. There was a time when good MTs could name their price. If no one worked for the sweatshops, they would have no choice but to change their attitude. I know, I know...you're saying "but we need to work" or "we can't afford to wait for the good companies to hire us." If you think about it, you're sitting there not getting work half the time anyway. When you do get work, the pay is so low it is hardly worth it anymore. Time for things to change in this field...and it won't be done by stabbing each other in the back.

I would suggest looking at archives and new posts for good and bad companies. You're not going to get very many people volunteering the names of their "good" companies, as they wouldn't want new people taking work away from them.
The answer to that is probably going to be different, sm - MT2

because we've all had different experiences.
This is so subjective that it is really impossible - To answer

What works for some does not work for others. Different MTs all have different ideals as to what makes a company "the best."
In fact, I've been frequenting this site for a number of years now, and I honestly cannot recall any MTSO that gets 100% positive reviews across the board, because everyone's experience with each company is unique to them.
I would suggest deciding on what you yourself would find ideal working circumstances, narrow it down to a few companies through research, and then perhaps check the archives here to see the most recent consensus on said company.
It's kind of like that old adage about one man's trash being another man's treasure, if that makes sense.
Good luck in your search!

Thank you for an honest informational reply instead of "nice try, no one's going to tell you..." I appreciate it.
Can someone please give me an update on JLG Transcription. The only references I found were from 2009. I wondered if anyone has any updated information. I do not want to make a big change to something that may not be a good move. I support myself so I really have to know something concrete. Thank you. ...
After 10+ years of typing numerous specialties, I am interested in running my own transcription business. Do you have any suggestions on where/how to get work?
Thanks in advance! ...
Has anyone heard or dealt with SRVMT Medical Transcription Service. I was offered a job with them and am curious about the company. It sounds like it is a new company. ...
I received a call today from a recruiter at U-Scribe in response to a resume I must have sent in. I have done some Google research as well as searched through this forum. There's not much to be said about this company except that they are hiring. The gentleman I spoke with today told me they are very backlogged. He said a majority of their clients are from England, Ireland and Scotland. This man was English. He sent me two files to transcribe and return, ...
They just informed their employees that effective immediately they were changing the pay dates from the 3rd to the 17th. This when our payday is the first so now it is going to be late. Way to go Keystrokes! ...

... I have ever worked for where TOP MANAGEMENT will get on and type. They don't take work away from the MTs but they put their money where their mouth is instead of whining, begging and threatening people to work while they file their nails. ...
A while ago I believe there was a discussion on the board about the VA's and someone posted a link to the page where it might list which companies are bidding on or were awarded which VA VISN packages. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA ...
I had applied to transcriptionamerica.com. I received an email back from a Nancy Lawson, National recruiter asking me to transcribe a sample file. I did this and when I tried to email it back to the address that she sent it from, I keep getting a failed delivery notice saying that the person's inbox is full. Does anyone know if this is a legitimate company? And if so, do you know any other way that I can get in touch with them to email this sample back to them? Thank you so much! ...

Has anyone had any experience with this company? I sent my resume for a job posting and was contacted right away. The fishy thing (to me anyway) was that they didn't even want me to TEST for the position! What is that about? EVERY MT position I have EVER been a candidate for has wanted me to test. But nope, I had a phone interview and the next thing I know I am being offered a position. RED FLAG? ...
Has anyone heard of or worked for this company? They had a job ad on the Job Board earlier this week which I applied for. I searched the archives but absolutely nothing came up. Anyone heard of this company. We got a flyer from them today at work and they say they only charge 6.5 c per line, all US-based, no outsourcing. Looked up their website and they say they are one of the largest transcription companies in the US (never heard of them). Would love to know how they can pay their apparently "highly skilled" transcriptionists when they only charge 6.5 c per line. ...
Did some weekends ER reports to DW Medical Transcription, Atlanta, GA from June 20 to Dec 15. They still owe $1,400 for Oct to Dec work. Their accountant lied "Your check has been mailed. Please do not send any Emails telling me when and what I need to mail to you" and the owner/manager, Felicia made false promise “A check will go out to you next Friday on the 15th of this month”. NOT RECEIVED THE PAYMENT SO FAR AND NO RESPONSE FOR MY EMAILS. Their attorney said ...
This company is unbelievable....sent resume to them to get a letter back from stating that I had to have a proof of passing a certified HIPAA course which ok I get that but then it goes on to state that they want proof of having $300,000 of general liability insurance and want $250 dollars from me as a deposit on their software. Here is the biggest kicker.....they pay 7 cents a line. That is ridiculous. ...
Our facility recently contracted with Nuance and all MT's were "offered" a position with Nuance. What should we expect? Has anyone worked for or currently working for this company? ...
If anyone has knowledge of this company, would you please share what you think of it. Enough work, flexible or not, platform, percent of ESL dictators, pay on time. All this and anything else you would care to share would be much appreciated. Thank you. ...
