Anyone else supposed to start with Oracle OTI tomorrow? - mtinmt

Why no news?  I hired someone to come in tomorrow (a mother's helper) to help with the kids as I assume we are starting tomorrow (originally told on 10/5 but then someone on this board said 10/11).  I don't know how many hours I can work or any details whatsoever.  Anyone else hear anything?  Do I need to scrounge around for ANOTHER IC job?

I haven't heard a thing at all, not even a peep. Last I heard, it was supposed to start Oct 5th. Then someone came on the board here and said it was Oct 11th. But I haven't heard anything at all from the company's management. So something tells me that this new account has probably been delayed.

IMO, not being kept informed about a start date or other necessary information by a company is bad business ethics. Are the MTs or editors or QA people allowed to just not show up for work? At the least, all new MTs should have been trained and ready to start, as well as been kept informed OFTEN about when work would be available.

New MTs have been hired, trained and are ready to start on this account. How do I know? I work there and my accounts are EMPTY every day now since they started hiring. The work available has decreased drastically, and it's not that the facilities are slow, it's because new MTs have been hired and placed on my accounts, leaving me with next to nothing to do.

Well, that's just wrong! Again, it's a case of really crappy business ETHICS. A company should not take away work from current MTs. They should coordinate the new MTs based on start date of the new account, but keep those people informed. This whole MTing business has gone in the dumpster. There are fewer and fewer reliable, trustworthy, ethical, well-managed companies. They repeatedly want our status to be ICs, but work the MTs as if they were employees. They want turnaround so unreasonably tight that they over hire. And then they wonder why there is no loyalty from the MTs and QA people?

There was a time when there were some very good companies to work for, but every time we turn around, they get sucked up by some of the worst big services out there.

I used to love this career. I now consider it a job and just hope I can hang on until retirement - quite a wats to go. It's not looking pretty. For those of us who are rural or the unemployment rates are crazy high, there is a limit as to what one can do, especially if we have invested education, time, and experience in this business.

I've always recommended that all MTs work for more than one service or multiple local offices. It helps to cushion the "feast or famine." It does not always make for a very healthy lifestyle, however.

It goes both ways. If a company were to do that, chances are only 1/2 of the new employees would show up on the day that the account starts, only 1/2 of the 1/2 that does show up will produce more than a few lines and 1/2 of that 1/2 will produce really horrible reports as if they have never transcribed before, even if they say they have 20+ years of experience. This is getting bad on both sides of the fence now. Stop blaming the MTSO's and managers until we, as a group, can give them reasons to NOT send our work offshore or overhire or cut pay.

I agree with the above post. We are all good MTs or should be. I am and never have been a really "high" producer, but I do quality work and for the right company that is an asses and I think, luckily, I have found it.

I agree that not all MTs produce amount or quality of work per contract as arranged with their MTSO. In that case, these MTs should be dealt with.

That is still no excuse for those MTs who have kept within contract specifications to be treated inappropriately by their MTSOs.

However, please do not shoot off with 1/2 of 1/2 type of statistics unless you have actual data to substantiate your information.

I get my retirement in less than 90 days and I can hardly wait. I do agree with you. I wish all MTs well. The big services have pretty much turned sour. Smaller services will treat you better. Wishing you all well (and counting the days!).

That's why us other MTs are running out of work. There was barely enough work before anyway, but now with their new MTs also working on these existing accounts, there is NO WORK at all. The huge new account hasn't started yet and I'm beginning to wonder if/when it will be starting. Haven't heard a word at all from OTI management about it.
I was hired & I haven't started yet - said next week now. NM - Just me?

At least in my opinion. Wouldn't a hospital that needs 80 MTs be prepared to go live when they need it? Not all these maybe-next-week? I don't know, but something smells fishy. I haven't heard a word about it for a couple of weeks now.

I have no idea/was just reassuring current MTs it isn't new hires taking the work NM - at least me

I've asked more times than I can count for more work and I feel sort of hurt that I am never given any. I only managed to get a dozen or so reports this week.

I've been told I will be put on accounts before and it never happens as I assume it doesn't actually come up. Very depressing. Good luck to the new hires!

The only time OTI doesn't send out email updates, in my experience, is when the accounts are all practically empty, so there's nothing to put on it.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get hardly any work this weekend either. I don't know where all their work is going, but it sure ain't coming to me, that's for sure.

I applied at Oracle and I am a highly experienced 300+ lph person. They did not deign to answer my application. I now feel fortunate that they did not. I feel so sorry for the people who actually work there. This is a heckuva way to run a railroad!

I applied also. I have 30+ years experience in transcription with the last 10 being supervisor and QA as well as continuing to meet my 100 minutes per day. They didn't contact me either and like you I think I am glad.

.. in the "total hours" for the week when calculating our C-LPH?  My 15-min OOW punches from this past week were included in my total hours. If they had NOT included those OOW punches when they were calculating my C-LPH, I would have been put into the next tier... just barely... but I WOULD have made it into the next tier.  I emailed my TSM about it this morning but still haven't heard back yet.  Is this the norm?
