Platforms? VR? PTO? How tough is grading system?

I had a phone interview with them. It's a pretty big outfit. Most of the work is VR so you really need to have some experience in that. I would say it's at least 85% VR. I never hired on wtih them. I don't know anything about the platform, PTO or grading system but I suspect there are lines per hour to meet and it's like any other big MTSO, that there are regular line requirements and QA requirements to be maintained. I just kind of wanted to stay away from corporate America myself.

I work for Precyse. Lots of work available, and they will work with you on your schedule and accounts. Two-week training period is excellent. You do have to work your scheduled hours, and they track your actual production time. There is no window - 8 hour shift, you are expected to work 7.5 hours of it. When I started, I didn't think I would like editing, but now I'd rather edit than transcribe, almost, and my line counts are about the same (although it took several months to get where I am, now - familiarity with the account, etc.) Editing, I run about 300-320 lines an hour, straight type I do around 200. I have been here almost a year, and really like it. I say, go for it! :)

If you can do 2/3 as much traditional as with VR, is the VR not quite a pay cut for you? Do they grade you tough on the VR like Nuance does?

Don't know what Nuance QA is like but they're tougher here since right before the $140 million news broke.

I'm not sure what you mean by grade you tough on the VR? I'm paid 60% for ASR lines, 100% for straight type (there is very little of that on my accounts), and I find it's about the same, pay-wise, as what I was making on a straight-type account before I went to work for them. It took me a while to get used to the editing, but when I was struggling with it, early on, the training person spent some one-on-one time with me, and it really helped. Overall, I am very happy here.

If you have an account that has no resident, PA, RN dictators and the doctors use templates, you can get away with that. Otherwise, you're blowing smoke and most people don't make those kinds of lines, and a lot have been fired or quit because they can't meet the minimums. All regions fluctuate on work loads, North is way low right now and others right behind it. Glad you're having such a great experience; that is not the norm.

I've had a few reports where I've only had to make minor, minor changes. Commas, doctor's names, that sort of thing. And other ones where I've had to practically re-type the whole thing. I find that with the good dictators, I can speed them up to around 150% and even with the harder ones, can still bump up the speed just a little, so it evens out in the end. The account I'm on has hospitalists who rotate in and out, and some residents, but the ASR does a really good job with them. I find I can work ahead, as well. The main thing is to just plugging away. I was pleasantly surprised over the recent holidays that we were not low on work, at all.

As with all things, I think that you get out of it what you put into it. :)

...that the VR doesn't understand a.m. anymore after a time is given, so it types am, so we change that to a.m., and now the system is "learning" that am gets changed to a.m. HOWEVER, it's changing all am's. In other words, I a.m. going to follow patient's labs... I prefer not to deal with a PPO because they usually have huge deductibles and then only pay 80% after that. Thank goodness I'm healthy, but I always think if anything ever were to ever happen, costs like that would put me under. Are there any companies which offer either an HMO or maybe a choice between HMO and PPO? ...

Can anyone tell me if Precyse still has Precyse University for training. I went to work for them a few years ago and quit because I was only doing 1-2 hours a day for a couple weeks going through the University and waiting for things to be approved in order to move on and was not making any money, got fed up and quit. I would like to reapply but do not want to if they still do Precyse University training. ...

For MT Week last week we got Sonic Rocks which are testicle-shaped shiny black magnets. HR just sent around a warning that they're very strong magnets and to not keep them anywhere near the computer or anything that stores info magnetically because people are accidentally erasing their hard drives with these stupid things. Wonder how many new computers that's gonna cost... ...

I was just wondering what is happening at Precyse. I left Precyse last month after they sent my fourth account over to India, and there was no work. Management kept telling us to be patient and just use PTO, but we had not really had any work for months and had already used up most of the PTO.
