VDI - Longtimer

Posted: Jun 14th, 2019 - 10:30 am

I see there are a lot of posts going on regarding VDI.  I wanted to give my 2 cents.

Virtual desktop is a popular way for companies to have MTs type into their software, rather than having to receive it in a different format and then transfer it into their system.  I have used various VDI's in the past.  Some have been seamless - no problems at all.  Just sign in and type - just like working on your own screen.  Others have had issues - slow, unable to maintain connection, problems recognizing PW/ID, and unable to sign in without multiple tries.

I have decided it is not about VDI itself - it is about the software the provider company is using.  The only way to know whether you will have a problem is to actually install it and try it.

Regarding security - I heard recently "I told my son a joke.  He laughed...Alexa laughed...my laptop laughed...my TV laughed."  There is no more security - If you speak about something with your iPhone nearby, you will instantly get popups and emails trying to sell you something you talked about.  I have tape over the camera on my computer!  VDI has to protect security so a virus you downloaded won't spread into their entire system and take them down.  They don't care about your FB or anything else.  If you have porn or something you are ashamed of on your computer, take it off.  But to make a blanket statement that VDI is bad in and of itself is not rational.  My 2 cents...
