Right now she is getting ready to retire at 62. She has lived in Sacramento CA since college (so keep in mind, it's Calif and also a big city which is also the state capital; cost of living is higher, and then so are salaries). She was originally a secretary in a law office, then decided to go for paralegal in her 40s and aced her classes. She stayed with her firm continuing to do work with estates/trusts/wills. She changed firms a couple of times. She always got a great bonus at the end of the year. I'm sure she's making in the 60,000s (again, Calif). The only thing she hasn't liked about it is having to designate so much of her work as billable hours, which the firm pressures her to do, she feels the clients get gouged.
