I used to use my laptop as my "engine". I did not work on the laptop itself though. What I did was hook up my big monitor to it and my keyboard and mouse to it because I cannot type on a laptop keyboard fast at all, and also I wanted to look at a bigger screen than the 14 inch laptop screen. It all worked for me as my desktop just wasn't getting enough power to perform very well. Hope this helps.
