Unemployment - Molly

Posted: Apr 18th, 2016 - 10:55 am In Reply to: Collecting unemployment - Billie

I may be wrong but it may be different with some companies. I worked for Nuance but lived in RI. They took all taxes including state taxes for RI so I would have collected from RI. Now I have been laid off from a company in S. Carolina but they paid state taxes in Carolina and not in RI. I am now collecting but have to report income weekly to Unemployment in SC.

Sending in a resignation, quitting voluntarily, being fired, are all reasons why you will not be able to collect. You have to be "laid off" and most companies will do everything in their power to not do that. My company folded so there was no alternative.
