I'm sorry that you were let go because of something out of your control and you've lost computers due to power outages/surges. I've had that happen to me too. I now have everything plugged in to a battery backup/UPS so that when my power does go out or the lights go dim, etc., I can continue working long enough to finish the report I was working on and upload it then shut everything down until the storm passes. I recommend you get one if you don't have one already.
