I tend to agree with the poster who mentioned satellite internet connection. I live in SW Florida in the country and we have our share of bad weather here. The most that I think my power has been out is MAYBE 2 hours and that was very rare. I also have DSL rather than satellite. If I know that they are forecasting any type of storms etc, I try to let the people that I work for know in advance that we are expecting bad weather and that I will be available as soon as things "calm down." That is only common sense and common courtesy.
