Yes, that makes a lot of sense! It's in your best interest to stay away from the career field where you have noticed some cranky people on one Internet board, especially when you can't tell if the cranky people are even in that career field!
Assuming that everyone in the career field will be just like the few people you have seen here is called "all or none thinking."
The decision to stay away from that career field is called "shooting yourself in the foot."
Check out the salary surveys ... I'm sure you'll have a reason for not wanting to make that much money.
