I've been almost 11 years with a major healthcare corporation with multiple facilities under its "umbrella." Since going to EMR/eScription 2 years ago, our work load for all facilities combined is now a fraction of what we used to get each day from one facility alone. Yes, our line rate for VR is more than any place else I know of, but what good is a higher line rate when there's not enough work to get decent lines? That just doesn't make any sense, does it? We have more facilities/more doctors than ever before but much, much less work? Not to mention 10-11 MTs were "laid off," 5-6 have left and 5-6 other have gone from 40 hours to 32 hours, still barely enough work for an 8-hour shift. So now we're told to clock out when work runs out/low, check back in later, but can't work past our normal end of shift to make up clocked out time, so must take PTO/time without pay! Not that I want to work part of shift in the evening and take work from the "actual" evening shift folks, but we're all just trying to make a living. I'm 63 and would love, love, love to retire early, but I just can't live on SS alone. I'm trying desperately to hang on until 66, still can't live on SS alone but could work part time maybe/hopefully to make up difference. I'd love to get out of MT all together, but when that's all you know/all you've done for 25-30 years, no one wants to even give you a chance at anything else.
Okay. That's my rant for the day. I know I'm not alone in all this, but frankly that doesn't really help, does it.
I wish every single MT in the US could just walk away and let the AH's edit their own VR junk for a week, they'd be singing a different tune then, right?
May the force be with us all!
