Girl Who Hires was trying to tell you that you need AHIMA credentials. That is what most companies need you to have because most hospital clients require that.

She was not necessarily telling you to take a course from AHIMA, although she might actually think that you need to do that to get an AHIMA coding credential. That is because you DO have to take a CAHIIM accredited RHIA or RHIT program to sit for the exam. People get confused.

She is also trying to warn you away from AAPC courses, which produce certifications that her company might not prefer. She may think AHIMA courses are guaranteed to be fabulous. As others have noted, AHIMA courses might not even qualify you to take the CCS or CCS-P exams, but only the CCA, which is not widely accepted, either.

In general, employers will not care what course you took if you have the right certifications. In this case, you would be aiming for the CCS.

Andrews doesn't just look good on paper ... it is good in actual fact. It teaches more than most college coding and other online programs and also teaches it well. It is, I think, a lot more work than other programs, but that is why you will have a good chance of passing the CCS.
