Surgery word help - Endoscoop - Kim

Posted: Jul 06, 2013

Please, I need help.  I cannot verify this word "endoscoop" anywhere in my reference books or the internet search.  It does make sense to scoop the pieces, I just can't find this word.  Maybe I an heaing it wrong or spelling it incorrectly.

This is an OB/GYN surgical op note for a ruputred ectopic pregnancy,  laparoscopic left salpingectomy with removal of ectopic mass.

He is saying:   The ectopic mass was then amputated with a scissors dissection.  This was removed in pieces with a large endoscoop.

Could it be endoscope - nm

endoscoop - Kim

No, he is speaking clearly. It is "scoop" on the end, "endoscoop." Maybe some word he made up. When I search, I keep getting "endoscope." It does make sense in the sentence as to what he is doing, to scoop the pieces up.

scoop and scope sound very much alike.
Stuff can be removed with an endoscope. There is no such thing as endoscoop.
well, there can be if you are in - research

Europe, particularly Holland where "scope" is spelled "scoop." Endoscopes and hysteroscopes come in a variety of sizes, often using a medium or large scope in this type of procedure.

If you still are in doubt, leave a blank for QA to clarify the word.

and there is an endoscopic community called "Endo Scoop," but that isn't relevant, either.
would you be so kind as to provide the link? - research
[ In Reply To ..]
The others and I responding must have overlooked it....It is not on the products page for Ethicon Endo products...

Not sure what this has to do with scope being spelled scoop in Holland, but here you go:

Thank you, this does not document a piece of equipment - research
[ In Reply To ..]
It only provides a link to a community of people who talk about scopes.

It is important to be sure we research what it is we are transcribing. If we cannot document a particular manufacturer's product(s), we can't use that spelling in a medicolegal document.

I provided a link to Ethicon's Endo products to document trademarked products.
and endoscoop is not among them - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
what's your point? No one but you suggested that endoscoop was a product. We appreciate the Ethicon products described in your link, but would remind you that understanding what we research is actually more important than miscellaneous links.
okay, so you prove there is no such thing as Endo Scoop and - research

I am left without a point? sigh.

I'm left scratching my head about your point as it seems to reinforce my point.

I'm still trying to figure out your point - which was that scope is spelled scoop in Holland.

Endo - Can stand alone

It's actually a tradename for some things. It's possible he used an instrument made by Endo?
