Surgery word help. s/l Bando sm - Mary

Posted: Jun 06, 2012

Steri-Strips were applied.  Dry, sterile gauze dressings were applied above this.  TopiFoam was also applied to the lower pole, and all dressings were secured in place with a surgical compression garment.  A  s/l "Bando" superiorly was applied.

I have googled what I think it sounds like and checked a couple of Stedman books.

Thanks for any help, Mary

it would be really neat to know what the surgery is - please

It's not like she gave no context at all. - sheesh

[ In Reply To ..]
She gave a couple sentences, and usually that is enough to help. She just didn't think to mention what type of surgery/what body part. It would be different (nicer) if you simply said, "What type of surgery is this? It might help us to know what body part they were bandaging," or something like that, but using the words "really neat" shows that you're being kind of a smartie-pants about it. Kind of makes people not want to ask for help.

it was an attempt to help - not a snark - sm

I wasn't trying to be a smartie-pants. I'm not sure why, but lots of people in the field don't seem to have a strong handle on how to present information when making a query. I offer help on this board every day. I almost always have to ask for more context, and do so very politely. This rarely gets results, so I thought trying a different approach might work better, or be more accessible to the poster. Something like: "it would be cool if we knew this detail...."

You really needn't see negativity where there is none. I don't think my post was so "sheesh"-worthy.

Perhaps - .

According to dictionary . com:

ban·deau
   [ban-DOH, BAN-doh]
noun, plural ban·deaux  [-dohz, -dohz]
1. a headband, especially one worn about the forehead.
2. a narrow brassiere.

So maybe there's some type of band gauze or something that goes around some body part and helps hold the dressing on that they also call a "bandeau." ?

bandeau is the most likely answer - hmmm

[ In Reply To ..]
I've heard this term used in many types of surgeries to hold a dressing securely in place.

bandeau - stormy

[ In Reply To ..]
especially if it's liposuction or breast surgery

Sorry, capsulorrhaphy, capsulectomy, capsulectomy - Mary

[ In Reply To ..]
Could it be band garment? Has any one heard of that. This last sentence usually entails "garment", but he clearly says BAND-O

thanks again to all.

I still think bandeau fits and is what you're looking for. - nm - jld

Is there a way in AutoCorrect (Word 2010) to change a comma to a period and then cap the next word to make VR go a little faster?  The platform at my old company did this automatically, but MS Word does not : ( This is so frustrating having to change from a comma to a period (or vice versa)--which as you all know happens constantly...and then change the next word to be capitalized (or uncapped)....my wrists are killing me, not to mention it takes so much TIME.....
