Nuance Laughed in my Face - Tired

Posted: Mar 05, 2013

Yesterday I got a call from Support asking questions about my system for the upcoming ebtxt migration.  When I told him I had satellite, he actually laughed and then turned to his coworkers, joked to them about it, and they all laughed too.

When I asked what was so funny, he was taken aback, as if he didn't expect me to be offended by his behavior.  He then apologized and mumbled something about satellite having a slow download time.

Not only was his behavior unprofessional, but it confirmed my suspicion: The company is laughing at us all for accepting such humiliating pay and work policies.

OK - I'll bite - ayn

First off, let me say that I completely agree that he was unprofessional and extremely rude.

BUT, how does his laughing at satellite translate into he was laughing at you for accepting humiliating pay and work policies? He probably has no idea what you earn, and unless satellite is required, how does your using it relate to work policies?

Speaking Figuratively - Tired

It wasn't so much his laughing that bother me as it was the suggestion. Before then, I always had it in the back of my mind that those in corporate must be laughing at all the MTs they've been able to dupe into working for them. Hearing his laughter only made the figurative literal.

They came in and bought up our company and slashed our wages. Never mind wages have been the same for 10 years, but they actually reduced our wages. Now that they're moving us to a different platform, we essentially have to start over from scratch to teach the new voice engine, only to have the work eventually shipped to India.

Yeah, they're laughing all right. All the way to the bank.

It was the last straw. I applied for two jobs this morning outside the field and will continue to do so every day until I find something, anything, other than subject myself to this kind of humiliation.

Tired - frustrated

You have to consider that the people that work in IT are geeks. Yes, being a transcriptionist is not as glamorous as it used to be. I have done this since I was 18 and I am now 58 years old and I have seen a lot of change, A LOT! Each time it gets harder and harder for me but I adapt each time, just takes me longer. Now you need to be an English major to get past QC and I have had to adapt to that. But it is a job, if everyone would stop complaining and stay off this board maybe you could make some money. Applying to different companies is not going to change anything. They are all the same. I am actually working a full time job at one place and working a part time job at another company. They are no different. So find something or some place and stick with it because there are a lot of people out there out of work and cannot find a job. We should be thankful.

I'm sure the Indians at all levels of the MT business - are feeling pretty smug these days. (n/m)

=^..^=

Actually, the Indian minions are - getting the shaft too

Posting links is frowned upon on this board, so just Google "awful future prospects" mtherald (with the quote marks as shown) and it's the first link you'll get. I don't blame the down-in-the-trenches Indian MTs for taking our jobs; it's the corporate greedheads several levels above them (and us) and a whole lot of other factors in the medical field that have led us to the massive cluster-oomph that our field has become.
That was an EXCELLENT article. Thanks! - nm

Actually you are lucky they let you work with satelite. Nuance - did not allow it before. Maybe that

has changed though. I seriously doubt they were laughing AT you. More likely, laughing (rather than crying) how long your installation was going to take via satelite.

She/they are never ever. EVER. going to tell you what you want to hear on these calls. Ever.  They tell us things we already know - what our collective concerns are via the employee survey, that they're oh-so-excited about this and that - things that will pad THEIR paychecks, not ours - and spout off a bunch of useless "statistics" that not one of us cares about - pretty much how successful THEY are as a company, not us as the MTs. Pass on some of that wealth!  Again, if you' ...

Face It. Our Piece Of The Pie Is Smaller.
Sep 22, 2010

This used to be a career where many of us were able to ride the gravy train for awhile.  Don't get me wrong, we really worked hard for our money.  But, back in the day, we either had our own accounts and kept the entire cpl, or we worked for an MTSO who subcontracted to us or hired us to transcribe and we got a bigger piece of that cpl pie.  I made some fantastic money even 12 years ago.  I was working on tapes or rerecording on from my Skutch box. The years have advanc ...

I went from 6.75 to .555!! What? I am SO upset and disappointed. Why didn't they tell me about this huge cut in pay? Here I was calculating my lines at the 6+ rate, only to see on my pay stub that I've been making substantially less per line. I feel sick! I am going to contact my supe, but I don ...

In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...
