Latest Transcend/Nuance insult - justabouthadit

I am at about the last straw with this company. Just a few minutes ago I got an e-mail from TSM about the "gym membership reimbursement" program. It was to remind us "full-timers" to get our attendance records in to HR so that we can get reimbursement.

Now, I have never even heard of this program. I was a full-timer until earlier this year when I got knocked down to part-time because of their ridiculous $900 requirement, which they made impossible to reach with their %#@&*$% VR! I had no trouble earning that much with straight typing, but everything went downhill with the crappy VR, a fact I know I am not alone in. My income has gone done steadily since the Transcend takeover of MDI, and this year I will be lucky to reach $18,000. I have been transcribing for 21 years!

To have them tell me that all this time they have been reimbursing people to EXERCISE is more than I can stomach. How about reimbursing a little bit for my internet bill, or maybe even paying me a living wage????????????????????????

I could just scream. Thank you for listening.

Is this new? Does it apply to all Nuance employees? I would prefer increased wages, lower health insurance, but at this point would be glad to accept ANYTHING this company is willing to offer. I had been anticipating joining a gym after Christmas anyway and this might make it more financially feasible. TIA.

Hey there well I am a Transcender too and I have used this gym benefit since last year. I know it seems crazy but I have appreciated it myself and it is better than nothing and many companies do this now days for health benefits of exercise. I started going because working at home alone and after going through some bouts of depression in my life and needing to get healthy for some health problems I have I really enjoy the group classes and was joining a gym anyway. We sit so much it is good for us to get out and about and get moving. Good for mental health and physical health. Now I will also say that I totally get your point on the internet and all. I am in radiology and I have also seen my wages go down due to running out of work and my account getting dictators that dictated really long reports and this is all very frustrating. I found out about the gym reimbursement as it was on the website and hey anything little thing helps.

has been around for a good while -- and I took advantage of it for a year or more. It appears now with the merge, it will be available to all FT'ers.

Most of us, especially full-timers sit on our rear ends for many hours every day. Transcription/editing is a very sedentary job. "Reimbursing people to exercise" - great idea and a very welcomed benefit for me.

I think you and another responder misinterpreted my post. The thing that "insults" me is that this was apparently offered while I actually WAS in the full-time category but I was never informed of it... I certainly agree that everyone needs daily exercise, and especially those of us who have to sit all day due to our jobs. I have no problem with exercise or even getting reimbursed by a kindly employer to belong to a gym. I do have a problem though with doing the same job as others but being shut out of the same benefits.

I totally agree with you. What gym reimbursement program??? I've only been with Nuance since August, and you are right, VR is a joke! Whatever powers that be decided we should get half of the amount per line that we did for typing really sold us a bill of goods! It is NOT twice as fast! I have lost more than half of my income and have to claim Bankruptcy!!! I've already given my notice that I am retiring in January. If they paid us a decent wage I wouldn't have to retire - what I'm getting from Social Security is what I am making now working 30 hours a week, so why should I keep working?

To have the percentage of stuff that goes to QA be a factor in the bonus. They are just encouraging people to send through stuff that truly is not decipherable (even numbers). Plus, how fair is it when you have one truly unavoidable blank in a 19-minute report and ALL those lines get counted as having been sent to QA? Motivating people to send through incorrect reports just could put me over the edge as far as leaving. ...

I have been testing all week. Some companies will not even discuss pay until you take their tests. Then, I waste my time taking these tests only to be offered 7 and 8 cpl. It is absolutely offensive to me to offer me that low pay. You want all of my years of experience, but only want to pay "newbie" rates. I formally worked for Transcend Services and would advise people not to work for this organization. They are now switching over to Nuance, but stay away from them. They are extremely critical of everything you do. This is supposedly because they think they have such high standards, but they just enjoy being mean and critical to transcriptionists, who pay everyone's salaries. Used to work for Transcend and loved that you input your own time card. You could put down 8 hours even if it took you 10 to make your lines/$. Sorry to see employees will now have to use that same stupid clock we all do. Not hard, just a pain in the (&*&. When we were acquired by Nuance we still use our old system with time clock built in and the new one too. Then the reduction in wages. All in all... not a joyful union. My sympathies are ...
