Has anyone been fired and able to draw unemployment from this ridiculous company? I just can't take it anymore, want to quit, but think if I can somehow draw unemployment that would be great for me. If I do not show up to work will I be let go? I know this seems ridiculous to be asking, but hey, these large do-not-care-a-bit-about-you companies bring out the worst in some of us. This one is definitely the worse company I have ever worked for, and it shames me to have to work for them. Sad days at Nuance.

In most states, it depends a lot on why you were fired. In my state, for instance, there's a hearing.

Though I'd certainly be surprised if you could get unemployment anywhere if you were fired because you just quit turning up. Just for starters, that's normally interpreted as "quitting."

People who are fired for cause don't get unemployment. - People who are let go do. But the former

is why we should all document our times worked, production, etc., keep copies of all e-mails, conversations, etc.

Since companies don't have to pay unemployment for a fired employee, many work up a phony case against them. How many people have we seen come here reporting that after years of being appreciated, all of a sudden they can't do anything right, etc., etc.?

That is not entirely true. Depends on your state. Some - just have a waiting period if fired.

Oh yes you can - you CAN get unemployment if you get fired from Nuance.

Remember, everything that happens - DOCUMENT.

Show up to work and there is no work? Get a screen shot (print screen & paste into another program)and save it.

Asked to "flex" your schedule? Write it down - who told you to do it, when they told you.

What is really going to get them in hot water is the "adjusted time sheets," where your supervisor just changes the hours you reported at their discretion.

Threatening you with termination because you have "unpaid" time off, when it was THEIR fault because there was not enough work in the system to work 40 full hours.

This company believes they are too big to fail, but their 6 billion worth only makes it easier to sue them. Greedy attorneys LOVE big companies for that reason. Nuance's day is coming . . .

In the meantime, save all of that documentation. Nothing gives you more credibility than hard proof!

Maybe she lives in a small town without many options. Maybe she has been a MT so long, she has no other skills to offer. Maybe she cannot afford to go back to school.

I have been looking for a different job since the 1st day I started here (2-1/2 years now) but I will not settle for a job that pays less than what I make now. Also, there are 2 hospitals in my area. One just announced pay cuts, vacation day cuts, 401 cuts, etc. They are trying to not lay off people. They are blaming the economy, Obamacare, people who do not pay their hospital bills, and everything else they can for this.

So, yes we have a choice about working here, but it's not that easy to just quit w/out a backup plan. Sheesh.

Dreadful as it is, Nuance pay is better than most of what you will find out there, unless you are lucky enough to find an in-house job. They do still exist. I hate to break it to you, but work at home isn't getting any better... I been lookin'.

Every company by another name in this industry is the same. It's not one company, it's ALL of these companies that operate under the same miserly ways.

I don't think it is "scamming the system" when your company tells you lies, drops your pay by a ton and makes you wait around for work all day and night! Who wants to work for free? I don't, and thank God for unemployment for all of us hard workers who need a little time and money to get us through until we find something else. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly, Kitty! I did not mention the pay cut I took when Nuance took over for my company! And then requirements to work set schedule and hourly requirements, etc. They said the pay cut would be counteracted by the QA incentive pay, ha! What a joke. I do not see that QA is reviewing any of my reports nor I have received feedback, yet show a QA% of 99%. Plus, no unpaid time off unless you have PTO. I could go on and on.......

And yes, we all know this field is not what it used to be and perhaps we should have gotten out a long time ago. One can still hope there is a better place to work still as an MT at home. There are just so many people that continue to do the same MT work at home making minimum wage and never trying to branch out to anything else that we can all be replaced at any time by one of those people who just want to work at home no matter what. I agree, working at home is wonderful until you get tired of being taken advantage of. Some of us are lucky to have worked for wonderful companies and then get that surprise notice of the news that our company is being sold to another company. Again and again.

All of these companies are bad, this one especially. There is plenty they can be sued for -

Let's begin with "flexing" schedules. They have forgotten that case law on this issue was set forth in a lawsuit against Edix for "down time" years ago. As a 40-hour-per-week employee if you have no work - and you show up for work they must pay you.

Very soon, Nuance will be reminded of that fact.

Medical transcription is the ONLY job in America where 20% of the work is done for "FREE." This industry has become nothing more than glorified sweatshop labor, and Nuance is the epitome of that fact. All that money they think they are saving? They'll pay that out in the upcoming lawsuits!

It's their company motto to work people harder for less money and to minimize the labor they have. This company figures they can save $$ by shortchanging their labor force, then pay their legal team and still come out on top.

Time and the coming litigation will prove that to be an extremely bad business plan.

I was fired. I started with Medquist in 1998. They fired me in 1997. I was hired and Spheris and became a Medquist employee after they bought Spheris. I was fired again today. So I've been going back and forth since the beginning of this "safety pay plan" getting around 99.5% to 100% for 2 weeks then falling off the grid at 98% (and once much lower), back on the grid, back off.
