Begging, begging, all hands on deck - Seriously?

Posted: Oct 08, 2013

Still offering NOTHING extra to work overtime.  OT pay since Nuance acquired Webmedx is a slap in the face.  I used to make hundreds a pay working overtime.  The way Nuance calculates it amounts to around 10 bucks an hour.  The one particular account that they are begging everyone to work on is horrid to begin with.  It is either the epitome of greed or stupidity to think we will just help them out of the goodness of our hearts after they have done nothing for us.  Whoops, yes they have, sent most of us into bankruptcy or near it.  Sorry Nuance, count me out until you make it worth my while.

Seriously, and QC will slam you - anon

Every time I have helped out extra, especially if it was an account I didn't do all the time, QC has ripped me to shreds.

Nuance will never make it worthwhile to work OT, cause they are putting MY money in THEIR pocket.

Totally agree - sufferinginsilence

I too came from Webmedx and absolutely REFUSE to work any OT for this company. It takes everything in me to do 8 hours. By the time you get done working the OT, the majority of it goes to taxes and what's left is not enough to pay your cheapest utility bill!! Sorry about ya luck but not worth my time.

I also agree. No OT from me either. - mt2

My previous job, I made good $$ working overtime. Here, not worth my time. This job sucks the life out of me - 8 hours is all they get.

I miss Webmedx, too! - anony

Wish I could find a place to work like that again. Nuance is a nightmare.

I came over from Transcend.....sm - LoveMT

And the very first time I volunteered for OT, I actually called HR and told them they made a mistake in calculating my OT pay!! I was appalled at the amount per hour that was on my paycheck. I have done VERY little OT since that time. The ONLY time I have ever offered for OT after that was in order to take another MLS shift so she could have some much-needed and well-deserved PTO.

That first time I volunteered for OT, I was expecting to be paid as I had been paid for my OT prior with Transcend, especially since we were told "nothing is going to change except the name of who you work for." WHATEVER!

I believe my OT was something like $5.57 per hour or something close to that. I was told it was calculated differently because the MLS has already "earned" the "time" part and they pay the other "half" of whatever was earned during the hour, which is supposed to equate "time-and-a-half." And I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that everyone's OT pay is different amounts because it depends on what that particular MLS normally averages in per-hour pay. Some MLS average much more than $10/hr, like $14 per hour would mean the MLS would get like $7 per hour for the "OT pay" part.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I specifically told the person in HR that had I known I would get such a ridiculous amount for helping out with 10 jobs that NO ONE ELSE WAS AVAILABLE to do at 2 a.m., I'd never have stayed on and done a single solitary report. She said, "Well you did it because you have good work ethic." Ummm, yea and that just went down the toilet right behind my self-esteem.

It's based on your hourly rate - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
I reported this to the proper authorities in my state and they investigated and said that they (Nuance) were calculating it correctly. It's sick, but true. They calculate it based on an hourly rate, so it is different for everyone and amounts to nothing that is worth the effort or time.

I know... it's truly sad, that's for sure.....sm - LoveMT

I can't remember exactly what I made doing OT for Transcend, but I KNOW it was way more than 4 to 5 bucks an hour. I don't remember how they calculated it, but it was definitely much more worthwhile to take OT when they offered it back then, and many, many times I worked every time I was asked.

I don't do that anymore with Nuance. It's not worth the time, trouble, or headache. I'm so sick of FIESA 99.9% of the time, and if doing OT to help out means that the offshore QA personnel have more than ample opportunity to raise my blood pressure, then I'm definitely not going to offer up the only time I'm not stressed, which is when I'm NOT working, LOL

I understand your pain, but . . . - YD

Nuance calculates OT pay exactly the same way that every company in the country calculates OT pay. There is no discretion allowed here. You receive an additional 50% of your regular pay for that week for any OT hours. If you averaged $14 an hour for that week and worked 3 OT hours, then you would be paid ($14 x 43 hours) + ($7 x 3 hours) so the OT portion reported is $21. Of course, you also received $14 an hour regular pay for those same 3 hours, so your actual pay for those 3 extra hours is $21 an hour ($14 regular plus $7 OT).

I think you may be looking at this wrong, but pardon me if I'm mistaken. It is always worth it to work OT hours. Don't you like making $21 an hour a lot more than making $14 an hour? The $14 an hour is just an example. The base rate will, of course, vary week by week depending on how many lines you produce in 40 hours.

Sorry, but I regularly work 30 hours/week - So when I work overtime,

[ In Reply To ..]
I am paid my regular rate. Not worth it, especially, since overtime hours are often done on unfamiliar accounts, so I earn even less than normal and also get slammed more agressively by QC/QA. Usually, on one of my secondaries that I rarely work, the one or two jobs that I do on the unfamiliar account on an overtime basis are post audited for some reason, which often brings my "quality" score down unnecessarily. Never will I work OT again!

apples and oranges - YD

I don't know why you are still using the term "overtime." OT by definition applies only to hours above 40 per week for nonexempt employees, and as I said, it is always a good idea to take advantage of OT when offered and you have the time and energy. With your 30-hour week, you are talking about a completely different situation from that of OT. You're just talking about working more than your usual hours. That's not OT, and of course you receive your usual pay unless and until you exceed 40 hours. I certainly understand why you might not be motivated to work extra for the usual crummy pay, but that was not the subject of my previous post. The subject was pay for overtime.

Totally agree with you - Looking elsewhere

Now They Are Begging
Aug 08, 2013

So this morning, the emails are now literally begging for extra help.  It's a shame that somebody is too moronic to realize that paying your employees a wage you can live on and not demeaning them with FIESA may actually get people to stick around and give them the initiative and desire to actually want to help their sorry asses when they're in a jam.  Of course, if they'd done everything above, they wouldn't be in a jam to begin with.  These emails l ...

Begging For Help Once Again
Aug 30, 2014

Maybe if you stopped tourturing MTs and threatening to fire them you would have your TAT under control. No one wants to work for Nuance. If the pay was better we could afford to slow down and give a damn about our quality. We all know that you don't care about anything but the profits. They want all the US MTs gone so they can offshore all the work. They have already started with QA/QC becaues every one of my QA reports from the past 2 weeks were reviewed by an Idian, I can tell because i ...

Dec 11, 2014

Apparently there are many MTs out on "PTO" this week and we are drowining in work. I will not be doing any OT this week. I am at 100% as of right now in Fiesa and I am trying to keep it that way through tomorrow. You can bet you ...

All Hands On Deck. Are They Kidding. Suddenly
Nov 10, 2012

huge amount of work to be done.  Since we've "taken advantage" of flexing this week, we need to run to grab all this work now says the TSM.  Good luck with that.  They even compared the low work in the week to low times in the stores at holiday season.  What planet did they snatch these TSMs from.   No thanks.  I'll wait for my partial unemployment thank you.  ...

So Tired Of "all Hands On Deck" E-mails
Aug 25, 2014

Luckily I'm not a primary or secondary on these accounts, but I see my TSM send them out broadcast to everyone she must have on her e-mail list begging and pleading for help with this account or that account.  It's always the same language, and every time I just chuckle. Hands-On
Feb 07, 2011

I have worked for Hands-On for a few years now and I think it is a well run company. I recently had surgery for breast cancer, and the owner and manager were very compassionate and concerned for my well being. They are always available to help if I have a question. It is one of the best jobs I have had. You have to work hard, but after all it is a job and if you follow the "rules and regulations" regarding quality of work and turn around time you will get along just fine. You also transcrib ...

Paresthesia In Both Hands
Oct 21, 2009

Date: 10.21.09 I am 44 and a medical transcriptionist. I started working as an MT at age 35 and since then has been doing this job. For the last one year I have been experiencing numbness and paresthesias in both hands and lots of trouble with neck stiffness and fasciculations in both shoulders. I type for 8-1/2 hours from Tuesday to Saturday. I have concluded from this that onset of carpal tunnel starts when a person(male or female) is 40 or above 40 years of age.   ...

Any information or input on either question is appreciated. Thanks! ...

Fat Loss In Hands
May 18, 2013

Hello, this may be an unusual question, but I have been transcribing for about 3 months now, after completing 12 months at Career Step. I've been noticing over the last week that my hands are looking almost like skeleton hands. It's like the fat is disappearing and the bones are becoming more prominent.
