Getting into psychological/psychiatric transcription - Thumper50

I have 30-plus years of experience in transcription, but not medical. I am interested in getting into the psychological/psychiatric area of transcription. I have experience with psychological transcription, since I did work for a psychologist in the past transcribing evaluations and progress notes. I was wondering if anybody knows how to get into this area of transcription. Would I need to take a medical transcription course somewhere. Or would it be possible for me to work for a psychologist or psychiatrist based on the previous experience I've had? Any suggestions would help. I appreciate the experience and expertise of you all and would value your opinions.

easy. We have some that are 20+ pages long for certain aspects of care. They can be very monotonous and boring at times.

the afternoon, when I needed a little break from the monotony. Easy terminology, and always interesting cases. The reports were long, but no two were the same. For me, psych was like taking a little afternoon break, without stopping work.

Recently a good, inhouse psych transcription job had come along, but I didn't apply because the commute was 65 miles each direction. Now I'm kicking myself for not applying!

I've done psychiatric evaluations and did not think it was easy at all - just my opinion

I found it more difficult than some other kinds of medical transcription because of the terms used. They have thousands of terms that were not familiar to me. There were also quite a few medical terms and procedures mentioned in the reports that required MT skills.

However, if they will let you learn as you go, why not?! Most won't, but if you find one who will, go for it!

I believe the words I need help with (which sound like "Crispy Slay") are the name of a test. The doctor dictates the following: "It might be interesting to secure psychometrics and interesting to do an ASD workup, but at a bare minimum an IQ and achievement to see if there is a pattern on the scores.
