frustrating day at the UE office - TAA

Posted: Jun 28, 2013

The TAA website as well as my state's UE website said I needed to visit my local UE office to find out if I was eligible for TAA benefits, so I went over there today. I was encouraged when on the sign in sheet it asked if I was affected by TAA, and I said I wanted to talk to someone about that. It went downhill from there. They really didn't know anything about it. The counselor put my social security number into his computer and then said I wasn't "coming up." Well why would I be? I came here to find out if I'm eligible. He asked when I was given this petition. I told him it was the number that referred to my employer. Then he started making phone calls to find someone who knew something. Just about everyone was at lunch. Finally he got someone on the phone and handed the phone to me. The woman on the phone said the same thing, I wasn't "coming up." Everyone she had ever dealt with "came up." I said I have read the petition and it applies to everyone who is employed by MModal. She didn't really tell me what to do but said that I would sit down with a counselor who would go over the benefits with me - and I said well I thought that was what I was doing. It finally was decided that I should fill out the form for Trade Readjustment Allowance that is printable from the website and mail that to the state, and also file with the local UE office online. Which they could have explained on the website, but didn't, or someone could have told me on the phone, if I had been able to get anyone on the phone. I don't much like that form because it sort of implies that you have been laid off, asking what your last day was, and no place to explain your situation, but I guess I'll fill it out and send it with a cover letter. I am really only interested in some money to take coding, but I doubt I'll ever hear another word.

You - need

go to the TAA website, get the national number and talk to somebody there. If you don't get a person, leave a message. They will get in touch with you. It seems the word is still not around on this company. I'm pretty sure you would be denied if you fill the application online, because as you say they want a layoff date. I didn't get anywhere until I talked to the national people, and it even took a while to get them to know about us. They will get you in touch with someone and you will have to go to an orientation where benefits are explained. It is not an overnight process or one phone call or visit to the UE. In fact, the UE people don't have anything to do with the TAA. If you want to email me, maybe I can give you further information.

I know you're probably right - but

but why do the TAA website and the state website both say I should visit my local office to find out about TAA? I really had hoped they would hand me the forms I am supposed to fill out, and take some information from me.

I will call the national office Monday though.

Because - they

have not dealt with a company such as ours who won't lay people off and makes us sit here without work. The other companies lay people off. Ours would rather make us sit here without work and send all the good work to India and then enjoy tormenting us with why are our line counts down, why is our production down, failing us on audits because we can't understand these horrible dictators.

I'm not probably right, I am right. I went through this with these people at the TAA office. Please call the national and let them know your local knows nothing about how to handle your situation. They were going to get things straight with the regional people but apparently it still is not fixed.
okay thanks - will do

I guess I'm just discouraged right now and thinking I'll get someone at the national level who also doesn't know what is going on, but I'll feel better about it by Monday and I'll call them then.

In Texas, the UE office does know about TAA. They have dedicated folk who take care of TAA applicants. It took a bit of paperwork but I was approved for TAA training and now in school with tuition, books, supplies paid for. Of course, I was completely laid off from M*Modal in early April.

I am in Texas - maybe not the right part though

My office really didn't know much about it at all. Were you laid off before you applied? That may be the difference.

There was only one person in the Texas Workforce office that I went to that handled TAA paperwork. I showed him info with the petition number and MModal name & he started the process from there. Go to the Texas Workforce web site. There is information about TAA and, yes, I had been laid off before I applied. I worked for the company for 16 years. I don't know how it works if one is still employed.
that is exactly what I had hoped would happen - but it didnt

I did look at the info on the website and all it said was visit the office. And then there was that form to print out and send to Austin, which I am not sure will do any good. No one in my office was really sure what to do since I didn't "come up" in the computer. Actually I think I'm just going to forget the whole thing.

Check out the above. If you get laid off, certainly worth being persistent. TAA helps with cash after UE runs out if in school. Lots of paperwork required by TExas Workforce & big time commitment & persistence on my part, but so worth it.
this is about gaining a petition - we already have one

It's what comes after that that I can't seem to figure out or get answers on. I'm really glad it worked out for you though, and sorry you got laid off.
got satisfaction today - TAA

got a phone call from the office in Austin, fellow very knowledgeable about the situation with MModal.

Nothing But Office Notes And Office Letters With No ADT Tonight And Last Night. A Recipe For Perfor

Numerous cc's not in the database which have to be added, address and all. Short reports, of course, that take 3x longer than the dictation time. Just shoot me now. Need To Convert From Office 2013 To Office 2010
Apr 26, 2014

I'm starting with a new company next week.  My Windows 7 PC has Office 2013 Professional.  The new company's platform is only compatible with 2010 or earlier.  I don't have the money to spend on 2010, so I'll either have to decline the offer or try to find a way to install 2010 cheaply.  I thought I might be able to download a version for free, since it's not the newest version, but it doesn't look like I can do that.  Any ideas? ...

Ever Have A Job That Was Just So Frustrating?
Sep 07, 2012

I know it takes a while to get used to some platforms, but what is getting me is that the person who trained me is telling me to do something 1 way 1 day and then totally the opposite the next!!  When I ask her about it, I get no answers.  Very frustrating, but I have to keep this job.  I have no other prospects.  Why, I have no clue since I do have a lot of experience:( ...

Frustrating...
Jun 09, 2015

Perusing the MT jobs on another site and I began to see a trend I did not like....quite a few of them (probably half if I had counted) were paying 5 cpl transcription and 3 to 3.5 cpl editing.....I mean REALLY?? COME ON PEOPLE!! How do they expect anyone in their right mind to be able to work for those kinds of wages? That is way below minimum wage for a job that takes training and expertise in the medical field. It just drives me crazy as a veteran MT...I just do not get the insanity that this ...

Bad Dictators Very Frustrating
Apr 28, 2010

I have 6 years of experience and just started a new job doing straight transcription.  I'm convinced that I'm getting all of dictators that they can't run through their VR because they are so bad.  I'm lucky to make $5.00/hr.  Very frustrating.  Need to give my notice.  Anybody else have this experience?  Sorry, I just needed to vent. ...

I Just Have To Say SS Is The Most Frustrating Company I Have Ever
Feb 14, 2013

All the e-mails about helping out on other accounts if you are without work.  Some of my jobs have a 12, 48, etc. turn around time.  Is it really necessary to always be typing an hour behind these docs.  Good  grief.  This is so aggravating.  Who wants to try to learn 20 accounts with hundreds of different dicators, not to mention you'll never learn the cities and different names of different locations, etc. for a city because you're always moving on to so ...

Frustrating Dictation
Jan 04, 2014

Have typed probably 15 reports, out of those at least 13 have been the same physician who doesn't bother to put in name, account numbers, etc.  Have had to research every one and pend almost all of them for lack of/or discrepancy in information.  So now will probably get dinged for pending them because I am sure they will be able to decipher what I was unable to.  I could have guessed but with my luck then would have made a critical error so must be satisfied with probably on ...

Frustrating Job Search As A Newly Credentialed CPC-H
Apr 23, 2013

I became credentialed as a CPC-H in September of 2012 after completing AAPC's CPC-H training course.  I have been searching for employment since then and completing CEUs as I search, such as AAPC's ICD-10 anatomy and pathophysiology training which provides for 14 CEUs.  I just had an interview for an ambulatory coder job listed by a major healthcare center in Seattle who is putting me in the inexperienced file as a newly credentialed CPC-H with 20 years' experience as a ...

I applied to this company a week ago and they had called me back for a phone interview yesterday.  They told me in an email that my scores were great, etc.  After the phone interview (which I thought went well) the woman told me that I would be contacted later that same day.  Well, she contacted me back about an hour later and said I was not a good fit for the company.  Does not make sense to me whatsoever! Advice How To Get Into An Office
Oct 23, 2012

Any advice on how one would go about getting into a doctor's office/clinic office.  The classifieds locally do not seem to post jobs for offices and the websites for the hospitals are for jobs within the hospital.  There must be a way I can use my transcription experience to get a desk job doing the phones and appointments and maybe a little transcription at a pediatric/orthopedic/whatever office.  I have been without a contract for 4 weeks and I have a few little pick up job ...

Office Politics
Dec 14, 2013

Hi, Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the providers organized? I have one provider I transcribe for who never sends his work and then says he sent it when he didn't. I don't have any problems with the other seven providers, just one. When he does send the work, he always says "this is lost dictation" or "this was dictated and sent a second time". This has been going on for almost six years. I take pride in my work and really enjoy it until I get his work. I always say I can&# ...
