PIC/PICC and Disk/Disc - Sarah

ASR always used to type out PICC (not PIC) and disk (not disc). I just did a long report and throughout the report it had both disc and disk even in the same sentence. Also, we were told PICC is the correct abbreviation, not PIC -- so why all of a sudden can't ASR get these abbreviations/words correct? Why is it getting worse? How is it getting worse?

some MTs are still using PIC and disc. If people continue to type them wrong then ASR will keep using them wrong as well.

I've been dinged for them, I've been dinged against them. "Patient, the patient" "Will, we will" Don't care, if ASR prints it, they get it. Made 5K less last year to bring my grand total up to 15K in the past 10 years. Done. If they haven't fixed it by now, they never will. There are consequences for every action, time for them to feel them. Fire me, do whatever, I'm so far beyond done and burned out, I no longer care.

catch when it should be disk rather than disc or PICC rather than PIC? It's not a critical error (in reality) but it's a perfect way to cut our pay if we do happen to miss them.

Any time taken to have to fix things deducts from our pay also. No rush to fix anything.

The slower we go the more behind they get. We are on production pay, so it doesn't save them a thing to slow us down. It does cost them money because they have to hire more people, more bennies, more paid days off. Just stupid management and REALLY stupid tech department.

Once upon a time, many years ago, I was taught "disk" for eye, "disc" for vertebrae. These days, QA is contraindicating themselves like crazy. If I type disc for vertebrae, they change it to disk. If I type disk for vertebrae, they change it to disc. What gives? Same goes for eye. This is driving me nuts. What do you do here? ...

I was told disc when referring to optic discs and disk when referring to the spine. Then I believe the standard was changed to disc for everything. I just recently started a new job where I was pinged for using disc in a lumbar steroid injection report by my supervisor who told me to use disk for the spine. So which is correct? I am transcribing a report for a PICC line placement and at the end the doctor says that he places what s/l anestasol Steri-Strips. a-nest-a-sal. Anestasol Steri-Strips were applied. He could mean anestasol and Steri-Strips but he doesn't say that (which of course does not mean the "and" is not needed!!). Anyone know what this should be? Thanks! ...

I got a new computer. I do work for a local doc the old fashioned way (tapes) and would like to save his work on disks (used 3.5 on old computer).
