MedQuist pay scale - KTL

Posted: Nov 15, 2011

Just got an offer from MedQuist for Tier 2 but at a pay rate of 0.08/line with what is, in my opinion, a difficult work schedule for someone with a young family. Am going to see if they can sweeten the deal but wanted to find out from those of you currently working for them what your experience is with their pay rate.  I currently have 0.11 and 0.145 with other providers but need additional work to cover the nut. What is your experience with the shift work of 12-6 and 4-10? Do you physically have to be AT your computer all that time or is there opportunity to step away to help kids with their needs, etc. I've never worked on a schedule before and it seems that I'll lose some of my flexibility with this. That, combined with the lower pay rate has me wondering. Thoughts???

pay will not get better than that - and

The schedule you sign on for is your schedule. I hear some say that they take breaks when they want but my CCM makes me schedule my breaks and only take lunch when scheduled. I dont get to come and go and have been warned about "being on the compliance list" for not keeping schedule. Something to keep in mind.

Pay and schedule - MME

Medquist is very unlikely to "sweeten the deal" for a tier 2 employee. If you decide to take the offer make sure that it's for a rate that you can tolerate forever because you are not likely to get a raise - EVER.

Also, yes you are expected to keep the schedule you sign on to keep unless you schedule time away from your desk in advance with your CCM - not working your schedule is grounds for termination, especially if it becomes a consistent issue. This is true of just about every company though - not just Medquist.

Do yourself a favor and find another company. sm - shortcake

My kids were very young when I started working for a smaller company and I was very lucky to have an extremely flexible schedule, consistent work, and a very nice office staff to work with when I needed to. MQ bought them out and after a couple years I found I had less flexibility, less money, more stress, micromanaging, etc., than I did when working outside the home and dealing with daycare, commuting, etc. I often wonder how the young moms (and dads) do it now, working from home with no flexibility and strict adherence to an hourly or daily line count (when there is no work to transcribe). The day I left MQ 3 years ago was the happiest workday of my life. Two months ago I had the worst workday in my life and that was the day MQ bought me again. I refuse to work for this company any longer than absolutely necessary as I honestly believe that MQ will set me up to fail and even make less money on top of demanding more strict policies than most companies where you work in an office. I've worked in many offices in my day and never had to punch a clock, and now you pretty much have to punch out to take a pee! I feel like a prisoner in my own home. Just read this board before you make a decision you may regret. I do wish you luck.

Don't expect any of that from this company - MME too

I've been here for 10 years and make a penny more than I did when I first started and it wasn't from lack of skill or request, they just don't give many raises here. The only reason I got a raise was going from Tier 3 to an MME a couple years ago. I don't make much more than your offer.

As for flexibility? Absolutely not. You are expected to work your schedule (if you have work, which isn't likely, so maybe you will have time for the kids). The platform you use to type on monitors if you are typing, mouse clicking, or pushing the pedal. They even send out a report once in a while telling you how much you weren't typing and how many mouse clicks you made. If you're clocked in, you better be working and it better during your schedule. If you're clocked out, it better be scheduled and you better not be working. MTing at MQ is not for moms with kids that need attention.

Oh, and if you're going to be Tier 2, you'll have less work available to you and considering even Tier 3s run out of work frequently, it will happen to a Tier 2 even more.

My advice, look elsewhere. Of course, if you get hired by another company, MQ will probably buy it anyway and then ship the work to India.

But you will usually only be making 60% of that - ASR

[ In Reply To ..]
Probably 90% of your work will be speech recognition. This is only 60% of your base pay. MQ's ASR is horrendous. You may find typing is quicker than editing.

MQs lousy ESL dictators are horrendous too! - NM

I would keep looking - North MT

There are companies that pay better and have a 12-hour window in which to complete your schedule, much better suited to a family. Honestly, that schedule is terrible and your pay is pathetic especially considering it will be all ASR at 80%. FYI the top pay for tier 2 is 9 cpl and 5 for ASR. Never hurts to have all the facts before you see if they will up your pay.

Absolutely you have to be at your desk the entire time and then when there is no work during your schedule you will have to be at your desk other hours trying to make up the work anyway. Flexibility is not something that Medquist believes in any longer. When my kids were little we were statuatory meaning no schedule but since we became employees they are sticklers for the schedule. They even used to have people from Atlanta call us if we were 5 minutes late for our shift. Of course, they never could figure out time zones or when you had a day off scheduled in advance. Ah, man I don't miss that!

Medquist And Transcend Pay Scale?
May 13, 2011

I'm a current Webmedx employee and looking to work elsewhere, as I can no longer support myself with this company even with a second job. I'm wondering what the pay scales are for Medquist and Transcend. I've contacted many, many MT companies over the last few weeks and they are all slow to (or never) respond with pay inquiries, so I hope those experienced with these companies can help provide answers I'm looking for. What I'm looking for: Pay scale for manual, VR, ince ...

Pay Scale 3/6 - I Want A Job Like This...
Jun 04, 2014

Lets see if i make 3/6 a line that comes to   250 x 0.03 = 7.50 an hour  -- wow minimum wage. 150 x 0.06 = 9.00 an hour -- McDonald's wages. At 4/7 250 x 0.04 = 10.00 an hour  - Do you see the different 1 cents makes? 150 x 0.07 = 10.50 an hour   even if you did slightly better and could do 300 lines an hour editing you would only get 9.00 an hour.  So to make any money there, you would have to literally kill yourself.  TTS IS NO GOOD. period end of sto ...

I posted this question below but fear it will be buried. To those of you just hired at Focus, how's the pay scale? I currently make 8.5 straight/4.5 editing. Incentive Pay Scale
Sep 19, 2011

I am wanting to submit a proposal to my company owner about implementing an incentive-based pay scale to help with some issues we are having with people not working consistently and to reward those who are putting in overtime, etc. I am having a hard time finding any information on this as far as like a sample scale. As far as I understand it you make your base pay say for example 7 cpl for the first x lines, then for the next y lines you make an additional 0.025 cpl and so on up the line... If ...

Indian MT Pay Scale
Mar 27, 2013

As best I can calculate, the Indian MTs are started at about $40/week. This is not an error. I looked at both the application from Nuance (which can be found by googling) as well as the exchange rate. So when you see all the "extras" they are offered, try not to be jealous; they can't buy groceries with those extras. Apparently they are as dissatisfied with the management of the MTSOs as are we Americans. The question seems to be how many will continue to work for such low salaries and ...
