Transcend pay scale. sm - looking

Posted: Oct 10, 2011

I'm thinking of applying to Transcend, but while searching the archives I see posts saying that they only pay 8 cpl for transcription and 4 cpl for VR.  Is this true?  I have over 8 years of experience in acute care and don't want to waste my time if this is the case.

Thanks!

going rates these days - LisaABR

i dont know about transcend, but that seems to be the going rate these days. we're all getting cut down from our 9 to 11 cpl jobs, with the promise that voice recog. will double our production, which it does NOT. it takes just about the same time to edit than to type.

this line of work is now slave labor. They want us to go to school, drop a few thousand on training, and then now work for fast food money, and oftentimes, LESS.

I agree. It stinks. sm - looking

Voice recognition is the bane of my existence. I can't seem to get any faster doing it, and it bores me out of my skull. Slave labor is right.

not to mention - sm

books, computers and maintenance, chairs/desk, etc.

Well to be honest, since you have only 8 years - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
of experience, consider yourself lucky. I get offered 7 cpl all the time and have 16 years! You should set your sights lower to be honest. Eight years is nothing in this industry

I appreciate your honesty. sm - looking

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess maybe I should try to make it work where I'm at or keep looking. I started at 7 cpl over 8 years ago as a newbie with no experience, and that's why it's so hard to swallow that companies are still offering that today.

I understand that 8 years is nothing in this industry, but, honestly, it doesn't seem to me that people with 20-plus years of experience are valued anymore either. It's a sad situation.

i beg to differ - LisaABR

[ In Reply To ..]
8 years in this industry is not "nothing."

most of the ads i see on MTjobs request 1 to 2 yrs experience and no doubt would welcome an 8-yr veteran, albeit at slave labor like everyone else nowadays.

.. and this coming from me , a 14-yr "vet" of the trade.

Wow am I offended - 8 years is nothing?

[ In Reply To ..]
Give me a break. Can you be any more condescending? 8 years is NOT nothing in this industry and shame on you for perpetuating something like that.

Depends - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I came in with a merger and make more than that, so I imagine it varies.

Yes, it is true - hadtopass

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I was offered 8 cpl and 4 cpl for VR, but I was to work third shift and was offered 1/4 cent shift differential. Plus the cost of the insurance for family is way too much. I have to have insurance so I had to pass. I would have taken it had the insurance been more reasonable.

Maybe it depends on account.

That just may be the case. Thanks for your input. nm - looking

No, no merger/buyout. Just applied and tested and - interviewed and given an offer. sm

I am a high producer, CMT, more than 20 years of experience and scored very high on my test.

That is also what I make with Transcend. I know that isn't a common number though. - nm

Do you work on a primary account that has a high percentage of ESL? nm - TranscendMT

[ In Reply To ..]
nm

I have 2 accts. My primary I work on probably 30 hours - a week - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
has about 80% ESLs but I consider most all of them very good ESLs. Usually have more trouble with the non-ESLs.

My secondary account is lower ESLs percentage.

I do about 90% editing for my entire week of work. I enjoy editing very much but it took me some time to get used to it.

I don't consider my skills exceptional but I don't job hop and I follow my schedule. I did tell them up front that if I found I had no work, I would be applying elsewhere and that I wanted 2 accounts to start and work on both each week so I don't get estranged on one or the other.

We had a time of low work and my supe sent me an email telling me I could flex time (I had told her the same thing -- no work = looking for a new job for me). I told her I'm not flexing, this is what I agreed to. She offered me a 3rd account if I ran out. Fortunately for both of us, I didn't run out but I'm not taking a 3rd account on the run. It's too time consuming.

She seems to be pretty responsive but I'm very clear on what I will do and then I stick to it. I don't miss my schedule - no excuses, I show up on time every time and work the whole shift. I'm not skipping out. I have a $$$$ goal to make. I surely don't want to work a second job if I don't have to.

Anywho, they do pay well, in my experience. I'm more than happy though I wouldn't be surprised if the "no work" situation doesn't come up again...we'll just have to handle it then. It'll be a race to see who provides work first - them or a new employer! :)
My accounts are also high ESL. sm - TranscendMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong in marketing myself when I hired on. I only make $0.09/line and was given the impression that there was no room for negotiation. I also have over 20 years of experience.

Kudos to you and the other poster for being able to command this type of line rate. I didn't think that it was possible in this current MT climate.
It might have to do with how much THEY charge the account you hired on for. - May not be negotiation room depending on account.
[ In Reply To ..]
They don't charge all clients the same fee. It can vary by how they negotiate. So it may just be the "luck of the draw" so to speak depending on what account they were hiring for at the time you were hired.
Oh, I see. Thank you for this. nm - TranscendMT

Very upset with this line rate. I have been with this company for a long time - Transcender

[ In Reply To ..]
and work on many accounts, work the worst shifts, and they told me they could not pay over 5.5 cpl for editing. something is very wrong with this picture. Maybe a few of us need to revolt about the pay scales and we can make as much as the new hires do.

Same here - loyalty doesnt pay

[ In Reply To ..]
been with the company over 10 years and have only had pay cut after pay cut because we are "more productive."

I'm a short timer now for sure.

Read above. There may be a few accounts that they charge a higher rate to the client. - And have room to pay MLS higher for.

[ In Reply To ..]
I think it's all the luck of the draw when you hire on if the accounts they're hiring for at the moment are the ones they charge more money to. They negotiate rates with their clients, so they may charge more for some and less for others, and the rate for the MLS could also vary with that. Some have no room for upward negotiation, some do.

11 and 6.5 cpl - WOW

Do you work for Transcend? Do you work weekends/nights for 11 cpl and 6.5 cpl?

Medquist And Transcend Pay Scale?
May 13, 2011

I'm a current Webmedx employee and looking to work elsewhere, as I can no longer support myself with this company even with a second job. I'm wondering what the pay scales are for Medquist and Transcend. I've contacted many, many MT companies over the last few weeks and they are all slow to (or never) respond with pay inquiries, so I hope those experienced with these companies can help provide answers I'm looking for. Indian MT Pay Scale
Mar 27, 2013

As best I can calculate, the Indian MTs are started at about $40/week. This is not an error. I looked at both the application from Nuance (which can be found by googling) as well as the exchange rate. So when you see all the "extras" they are offered, try not to be jealous; they can't buy groceries with those extras. Apparently they are as dissatisfied with the management of the MTSOs as are we Americans. The question seems to be how many will continue to work for such low salaries and ...
