MQ Guidelines/BOS/CPs - mtingaway

Posted: Apr 18, 2010

I have been scanning through posts for several years here and am amazed at the recurrent complaints about standards.  Some of you sound as if you have to refer to all three sources every single time you transcribe a document and therefore your production is low and you get crappy audit results.  Really?  If you are not able to retain these kinds of guidelines with the need to only occasionally reference them (except when you're new and training), this is totally not the job for you.

And no, I am not management, just an MT doing my work every day.  I don't have a photographic memory, but seriously, how many times do you have to look up the same thing?

CPs are frequently updated/changed. sm - sm

It has nothing to do with memory. Many of us work on reports from several different facilities, doing a variety of report types. It is a good idea to check your CPs on a DAILY basis, just to refresh your memory and check for updates/changes.

Often, physicians at the same facity have differing requirements on how the report is to be formated for the same work type.

Even our Quality Coaches and CCMs become frustrated with the varying formats within and between facilities.

So, if you're just MTing away, oblivious to how your client wants things done, you may not getting the job done correctly and that could be a big wake up call on an audit.

AHDI and MTSO's should have pushed for universal formatting for medical reports years ago. I've been in the business for 26 years and was told many years ago that in the future, MT's should just be able to transcribe reports without having to format them. No, money was spent on VR, the latest greatest technology which is a failure in my book for the MT but a wonderful asset to the MTSO's. Back to the question at hand, having to refer to so many resources does slow you down especially when you're bouncing between acounts.

There is too much information to retain, and it is constantly changing. Having to look up this info every day IS a drag on your line count. Bottom line: They don't care about MT's as individuals, which is quite unfortunate because a happy employee makes a more productive employee. It's all about the money to them, whether the work going out is correct or not.

the problem is just that...nothing is consistent. No two people (be it QA, QC auditor or manager) can seem to agree on what standard to follow. Is it BOS?, no wait a minute....now you need to follow MQ guidelines first, no wait a minute....now you need to follow the client profile first. UGH! It's so frustrating because of the inconsistencies. That is why we have a hard time keeping it all straight...because it can change daily!

Oh year, don't you like being audited for style differences? - mrs.krabs

You're right! Nobody can agree on anything, even with the resources in front of them. MQ is constantly changing the rules. You can't win no matter how hard you try. That pushed me over the edge. Big business has taken over the MT field. I'd rather work for a former MT who knows what it's like in the trenches, not Mr. MBA who has all these great ideas of how to reduce expenses and cheat his employees out of money. I'm done.

Not sure what company you work for, but the MQ I work for has a guideline document that is pretty straightforward, the BOS 2 has not changed in a long while and the CP tells which order these are to be followed right at the top and lists the exceptions, accessed by the push of one single key. Whenever a QA/QC or anyone else provides feedback, either in an audit or not, that does not conform to their own guidelines, I email them about it and it is investigated. I have NEVER been penalized for someone else's opinion that does not agree with the guideline documents.

It just seems to me that some people waste a whole lot of time bitching that would be better used staying current in your field.

Your experience with MQ seems limited in scope. - sm

Obviously we do not all have retrofitted CPs that list only exceptions. As stated previously, many of us have BOBs that comprise a minimum of 4 different facilites, along with helper accounts from different BOBs in addition to tier 3 work doing all report types. For example, only 1 of my 4 primary accounts is retrofitted. The others have very lengthly CPs, with several physicians requiring very quirky formatting all their own.

Guidelines, Etc.
Jun 09, 2011

Well, I have read a couple of e-mails from corporate today.  I do not know about anyone else, but they are as clear as mud.  Don't these people have anything better to do than set these guidelines?  I know a hospital where the transcription was free style and when MQ took over THEY decided to have one format.  Like it changes anything.  Talk about control freaks! ...

Workers age 50 and older who are certified as eligible to apply for both TAA and A ...

New QC/QA-FIESA Guidelines!
Feb 21, 2014

Has everyone gotten the e-mail about the new QC/QA guidelines with regards to FIESA.  Apparently there are either some brave souls willing to complain to their TSM's and such, or management is actually reading this board (and not just clicking dislike on everything). The one thing I am not really sure of is that they are no longer going to be showing us the QC/QA comments.  Not that I check FIESA anymore anyway (after reading that so many of you don't waste your time and not ...

Federal Guidelines To Meet For ICs Under HIPAA
Sep 09, 2013

So I passed the BA Agreement, proof of liability insurance and Policies and Procedures with the company, so I may still be able to work as an IC and not an employee, but here is their response: "You must first provide proof that you meet the Federal Guidelines to remain an IC before providing proof of insurance or policies and procedures. You can research this by doing a Google search but these guidelines MUST be met in order to remain an IC." I already also passed the HIPAA training. What e ...

MModal Guidelines Order Of Importance
Feb 12, 2014

With all this talk of people being audited more frequently, including myself.  I thought I'd try to help out a little.  MModal follows 4 documents when it comes to formatting, and they are really cracking down on it.  They have a certain order in which to follow, one trumping the other.  If you can't find what you are looking for in the first document, move on to the next one.  Here's the order: 1.  Client profile - this will list any exceptions to t ...
