Amidst nationwide protests about the minimum wage at fast-food eateries, one burger joint in the Detroit metropolitan area has decided to raise its starting salary to $15. According to the Daily Beast, Moo Cluck Moo, a Michigan eatery, had already been paying employees an unheard of $12 per hour. Fast-food workers around the country have been holding protests to encourage companies and restaurant owners to raise staff pay. Moo Cluck Moo owners Brian Parker and Harry Moorhouse chose to give their staff a pay bump. The bump to the so-called "living wage" has many critics (predominantly fast-food execs and restaurants owners), but Parker and Moorhouse have found that higher pay leads to much better service and lower employee turnover. Plus the business owners truly believe that their staff deserves every penny. "It's not an easy job to do," explained Parker.

It also leads to higher cost for patrons. I'm not ready to pay twice what I already pay for a burger and fries because some unskilled laborer think they deserve more just because. Monday morning I think I'll go in and ask my manager to double my salary because I think I don't make enough and prepare to get laughed out of the office. The line needs to be drawn somewhere and I guess the next question would be where will it end?

that led to MT or whatever they're calling us now, to become a min wage job or less. You might think you are somehow better than a restaurant worker, but in reality you are just someone who the companies think doesn't deserve a living wage. In fact, restaurant workers may even be smarter than us, because I have never met one who would put up with the same amount of crazy BS as a lot of us do.

Well for your information their burgers and fries are not much more than Wendy's or McDonalds for that matter. Where the difference comes in is in the company profits and money in the owners pockets. They are willing to share the wealth instead of keeping it for themselves. I live in Michigan, maybe 10-12 miles from that restaurant and to help keep them in business, which it seems they really don't need my help, but my daughter and I went there to eat instead of the Wendy's or McDonalds down the street. Their food was pretty darn good and very good service too. The employees were very polite, making sure our order was right and fast.

I think the line has been drawn. I hope this catches on so everyone can make a decent wage.

Its attitudes like yours that help keep wages down and destroy the middle class. No different than Nuance whose CEO is making 30 something million per year taking raises every year in the millions and transcriptionists cannot even afford to buy groceries. So I think the line has been drawn with no more corporate greed and employee poverty.

So I say good for Moo Cluck Moo. I am glad to see there are people who really do care about their people not just THEIR pockets.

And no they are not hiring at this time. I would give up this job in a heartbeat if they were. Even at my age of 55.

Last weekend my family went to breakfast at Big Boys, who used to employ young people. I noticed that all of the servers were middle aged women. Same for cooks and prep. I bet the prep woman who manned the breakfast and salad bar had to be in her late 60s. When I mentioned it to our server she said she makes better money in tips then she did at her college educated job that was outsourced and she cannot find a job in her field. That is sad you can make more money waitressing.

Depending on how far you live from work (I live in never never land) sitting here bitching and moaning, is like a 5K pay raise in gas and car wear and tear. But my house is on the marked and planning on moving back to civilization because it is still not acceptable to pay a person nothing when it actually takes a pretty broad knowledge to do the job. It is an insult and I am nobody's flunky.

I've been at Transcend now since Dec 20th. My line counts are pathetic. It's not because of lack of work. No, it is speed. I cannot get any speed at all. For my hours, I have made less than min wage. I have been working at Transcend since Dec. 20. I have not been able to consistently average a good line count. I was wondering if it was possible for me to get a decent line count. I keep seeing MTs saying they make more on UE than at work. Isn't your UE based on what you made prior to applying for UE? If you make say $400 a week before UE, then UE would be a smaller percentage than $400 a week to the best of my knowledge. I never thought you would make even as much on UE let alone more. I have been doing about half and half, VR and straight transcription for the past three months - is anybody making any money doing this? My line rate, of course, is half of my regular transcription rate (like that is fair, right?). My account went to VR a few months ago. The docs who cannot do VR because they cannot talk worth a crap still have to be typed. The best part is, instead of making 10 cpl, we now get paid 6 cpl to do it. Basically, I am now making what I made about 11 or 12 years ago. Yeah, yeah…I know company.........you keep telling me how I am actually coming out ahead. I hear ya, I just don't believe ya! ...

I have had it..The past 2 paychecks I made approximately $200.00 less..constantly getting work I have never done before from hospitals I have never done because there is no work in my hospitals, constantly having to run searches in DoQManage for reports because I have never done those hospitals before..then we are told there is a certain amount of lines/hour we have to do..there is NOT enough time in an hour to do all this plus transcribe. I type my butt off full time and don't make anywhere close to $2k a month. This is the first time I've gotten to see it since it's the first time they've had enough work for me to make my line count. I just started about 3 weeks ago part time doing radiology in Powerscribe at 0.045 cents a line. Is there any way to make money at this? I'm used to making around $20 an hour, and I'm making about $4 an hour now, wondering if it gets better or if it is worth my time. Thanks for any input!! ...

So I have been working for private doctors for the past few years. Prior to that I worked for national companies doing straight transcription. Rates back then were 8 to 10 cpl, with 8 cpl being pretty low. Now 8 cpl seems to be where companies tap off.
