M*Modal - does anyone make decent money with this? - Should I stick it out or give it up?

I have been using M*Modal for about a month and a half now and I was really trying to give it a shot, but I am really doubting that I can ever make good money with this program. I used to be able to transcribe approximately 25 min/hour and these were docs that went pretty fast, so I usually got 250 to 300 lines/hour @ 9/line, so I made about 22.50 to 27.00/hr. Now with M*modal, they dropped the line rate 4/line and there is just no way that I can do double the amount of work, not even with the good dictators. I am just extremely frustruated and am truly wondering if I should stick this out because there are people that can easily do 600 lines/hour with experience or should I just give it up now. By my calcultations, 600 lines/hour would be approximately 60 minutes of dictation, so to accomplish that, there is very little time to make any corrections in an hour, so in reality I just do not see how it is possible. Okay - tell me like it is and I am not going to judge, flame, or scrutinize your truthful answers! Help - I need to know now.

but this is the wave of the future for us. I was like you in how much I could type and rate per line, then like you went to SR at 4/line. Like you, I don't see how I could ever double my lines to make up the difference in the cut of pay, not with the drafts that come in from SR. They have essentially cut our pay in half, but gotta live with it as I switched companies and same thing but new company is way more organized in all facets, adhere to schedules, and absolutely no cherry-picking like previous company I worked for.

it was a little over 3800 per day. That is a combination of voice and straight. I could straight type around 2000 before. I have just a few times doubled my line count to that but very seldom. I do not know about your particular platform. I make good money but mine will probably not go much more than I do now as can keep up with the sped up audio so go as fast as my fingers will carry me. Is all yours voice or do you have other transcription included and sorry, forgot what you said you were able to do per day, etc.

I work on M-Modal and make decent money, though still less than I used to make in the "good old days" of transcribing. I actually like M-Modal, although I hate editing in general. Now, your problem, in my opinion, is the .04/line. That is way too low, and I would look else for that reason alone. In the meantime, optimize your word expander to help with editing. I use Shorthand and have a command to change 'Patient' to 'The patient' with a couple keystrokes, for example. Figure out what your most common edits are and create commands for them. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Mmodal is the poorest excuse of a program there is. It is a lot of problems and new ones that keep coming up that were nonexistant before and nothing ever gets fixed. There are far superior programs to try.

I have had it..The past 2 paychecks I made approximately $200.00 less..constantly getting work I have never done before from hospitals I have never done because there is no work in my hospitals, constantly having to run searches in DoQManage for reports because I have never done those hospitals before..then we are told there is a certain amount of lines/hour we have to do..there is NOT enough time in an hour to do all this plus transcribe. I type my butt off full time and don't make anywhere close to $2k a month. This is the first time I've gotten to see it since it's the first time they've had enough work for me to make my line count. So I have been working for private doctors for the past few years. Prior to that I worked for national companies doing straight transcription. Rates back then were 8 to 10 cpl, with 8 cpl being pretty low. Now 8 cpl seems to be where companies tap off. Those of you who claim to make TONS OF MONEY TYPING.... You are not straight typing MTs under regular circumstances IF I believe you...and I don't. You probably work 7 days a week, all hours of the day like most MTs. You DO NOT work a regular 8-hour day, 5 days a week and make that much money.
