Filling in tables - should not be our job!

We have a couple of doctors who do complicated tables in some of their reports. It's a real production killer!!!

I dont even know how to do tables. - that sucks

I can tell you this straight from the horse's mouth (a client who uses other service for office dictation). He now uses tables because the other services he used do not know how to do hanging indents to keep the text properly formatted, so he insists on tables now to keep the text from being all over the page, as when MTs tab over everywhere. I have seen it myself, as I pull info from his office consults. Text was all over the place. He is also a treating physician of mine and has spoken to me about this.

He offered me his account, but too short handed, so...

I have an account who also used tables, and I now have hanging indents in place. Works out better than formatting tables for sure but still slows me down to some degree. I feel your pain.

I thought tables were not allowed just like subscript, - sm

What we see on the monitor is most certainly not what is shown on the other side. In fact, not even the same on different MTs monitors if the resolution is different. I was told this when I first started, and told many times throughout my years here, even within the last few months. Just think about it. You can make it all pretty on your screen. Now change the size of your font or change your screen resolution. It's now all messed up. Unless you know the exact formatting of the document shown on the client's screen or how it prints out and then duplicate that scenario on your monitor, it's not going to work. If anybody tells you that you can, they have no clue what they're talking about. Trust me. We aren't even to use the tab key. As a techie for years and an MME, I've seen some messes from MT/MEs trying to do tables. If you doubt me, make a table, upload it. Then go to DocQmanage/Fluency whatever, find that report and choose Final Report in the drop down and view it. It won't be pretty.

Wondering if anyone out there has ever thought of filling the gap by moving into other forms of transcription... As EMR increases, pay dwindles and opportunities for traditional transcription diminish, I'm thinking that it might be wise to broaden my scope a bit. A doctor wants me to do PFTs from a premade template he created. It is about a page long. It would involve typing the clinical history (2 lines or so) and filling in a lot of blanks. He does not want to pay my line rate that I get for typing his office notes, but wants me to give him a flat charge per report that is much less than what I would get for typing dictation. There has to be a fine line between vertabatim and what is transcribed. :- Blanks are sometimes left for a reason, and anyone with the knowledge they should have to do QA should know when the value and/or unit of measurement is impossible. The measurement unit the doctor dictated, probably by mistake, was impossible. If that value was so, that duct would have been half the height of the patient. Although, the doctor was ESL, so he may not have known the difference anyway. At least I know ...

unless you KNOW for sure. Dont assume N is doing anything to profit you that they dont need to do. Dont assume they have your best interest at heart. ANd DONT beleive you TL if she quickly ansers you with sure, you get paid for everything. Dont believe anything you can verify with your own eyeballs. MM does not paid for any additions to a report.
