Anyone know how the jury duty policy works for part time - anon

I know we don't get paid for it but if we have jury duty do we have to take one of our 13 days for it? Doesn't seem right to me. I have to do jury duty and don't get paid by MM and yet have to use one of my 13 days off when I can use those later for something I really want to do?

I had to make up my hours... no exceptions. - and I had duty for 2 days

That does not seem right to me, and I'm still mad about being forced to make up that time!

I would seriously look into the "law" regarding JD. Don't let MM just arbitrarily make a rule for you to adhere to. Your employer is supposed to pay you.

Note - This applies to full time. If you are part time, you are screwed.

According to company policy, they CANNOT require you to make up the time or take your PTO. You are TO BE PAID for up to 10 days. If the trial is set to go for more than 2 weeks, or it is decided your absence will not be in the interest of the company's needs, the TSM (or whatever they are called these days) must give you a note to give to the court to excuse you from jury duty.

Unless you really want to serve and have to go through the hassle of making up your time or whatever, just ask your supervisor to ask for you to be excused from jury duty. That's what I'd do. My friend works in a salon and gets excused with no problem when his supervisor fills out the form.

This is probably true in other states as well. You should get a form when you go that gives you this information. As for making up the time, I was not required to do so. This was this past spring.

more than 12 people, you have the option of taking their chump change jury duty fee OR your normal, customary hourly/daily wage at your job.

I would venture to guess in the case of almost all MTs ... they would take the chump-change jury duty fee (daily $15 to $40), I believe, depending on location.

Make sure you enter it as jury duty and not "excused no pay." Your CCM may tell you to enter it as the latter but in most if not all states, your employer is required to pay you. ...

Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily?
