Any MT/MME of the year winners out there? - Just curious

Posted: May 30, 2013

Past or present.  I'm curious if any of them visit this site at all and curious on what this AHDI thing is.  Is it run by MModal?  I live in Florida and was actually thinking about going this year and was wondering if it was worth it and maybe MModal will have any discounts on getting in.

AHDI Conference - not run by MModal

Run by AHDI itself.

AHDI is the group of blue haired ladies with too much - time on their hands. They made SM

up the "rules" of transcription, otherwise known as the Book of Style. You know, the ones that say you cant use cc for dosing, it has to be mL.

Then every couple of years, they change the rules. The latest BOS says it is now okay to use cc. The aggravating part of all this is, they made such a good argument why cc for dosing shouldnt be used. To suddenly change, is crazy and just proves they are just in this for the money to be made by the sale of the BOS.

And we all know, the physicians could care less if it is cc or mL. And I would expect a physician to know each abbreviation means the same thing.

When MM was fined for stealing from their MTs, they didnt have to pay the MTs anything. Our great judicial system saw to it that ADHI benefitted from the suit, not the MTs. And ADHI did not have any stake in the lawsuit.

One day, this house of cards that is our economy/society is going to come tumbling down.

ADHI just wants dues - CMT or RMT

[ In Reply To ..]
AHDI is the worst kind of union. They collect dues from their subjects for a certification that is not worth the paper it is written on and then turn around and sell them out to ASR and offshoring. ADHI was the one pushing speech recognition and how much money the MTs would make. Then they were "shocked" when the MTSOs decided to lower MT pay because of it.

I was a winner years ago and the ADHI convention was a waste of time. I will never go to another one. Medquist or Mmoral is the biggest sponsor of AHDI and yes ADHI benefitted the most in the lawsuit. It is a huge rah-rah session of old biddies who still think there is a future in transcription.

AHDI... instead of - biddies

I think by now it has devolved into greedy capitalists looking to make $$$ from foolish, cheap labor. Maybe grandmotherly types who shuck their blue wigs and gingham dresses to reveal reptiles underneath. LOL.

Our "advocates" at AHDI are - now overtly pushing outsourcing to MTSOs

[ In Reply To ..]

I dunno about the blue hair, but I'm sure on board with the greedy capitalists characterization!

Somehow I'm on AHDI's spam list, and just a couple of days ago I got a mass email from them that included an excerpt and link to this chipper little gem of an article, which is entitled "MTs Ride the Waves of Change":

http://community.advanceweb.com/blogs/hi_1/archive/2013/05/24/mts-ride-the-waves-of-change.aspx

An excerpt:

"How are organizations supporting their fluctuating transcription service needs while preserving the livelihood of their valued MT employees and meeting financial needs? Many have turned to outsourcing transcription services.

"While this may be unfamiliar to some HIM directors and managers, many have learned that outsourcing transcription helps organizations meet their shifting transcription demand, allowing them to focus on other strategic priorities. In addition, an "onboarding" program for outsourced transcription can provide employment to 100 percent of their MTs, allowing the same MTs to support the organization's documentation, providing continuity for physicians and a familiar setting for MTs working with clinical records."

I decided AHDI wasn't worth spitting on after I heard what they did to the MedQuist MTs, and it's clear that in the intervening years, they haven't changed their stripes in the least.

"Outsourcing" is not "offshoring." - anyone who does MT at home...

through an MTSO is "outsourced."

Offshoring is, of course, a type of outsourcing, but outsourcing is not necessarily or even mainly offshoring.
we knew what she/he meant - off/outsourcing

whichever.
But does poster who posted that know the difference? - Doubt it. nm

I certainly do know the difference - MT who posted the AHDI article link

I'm at a loss to understand why you seem to think I meant "offshoring." I said "outsourcing to MTSOs," and that's exactly what I meant.

The article I quoted from (and posted the link to) was sent out by AHDI and written by a "guest blogger" who -- gee! -- just happens to work for Nuance.

It was all about how hospitals, etc., can solve all of their cost problems without putting their MTs out of work -- by simply OUTSOURCING their transcription to an MTSO that will hire their MTs as part of the deal.

Being as it was a sales pitch encouraging hospitals to sell us like cattle to MTSOs, it wasn't trumpeting OFFSHORING at all. Nor was it disclosing that the MTs would slashed to minimum wage.

It was all about convincing everyone that, gee, just having your own MTs go to work for the MTSO instead of the hospital is SUCH a great thing!

I stand corrected, couldn't see what you were taking umbrage at if - not thinking it meant offshoring.

Advance for HIM has been publishing articles about outsourcing for a long, long time.

http://health-information.advanceweb.com/Article/Outsourcing-Transcription.aspx

They're not just "now" pushing it (where my main confusion was with your first post), and I wouldn't expect them or AHDI (who I agree is less than worthless and has been for eons) to be on board with anything else at this point.  AHDI's support of offshoring is the main thing about them that sticks in my craw, which this article didn't touch on at all, obviously.

I used to make good money as an outsourced employee/contractor and so don't see outsourcing as the essential part of the problem, but rather VR rates and offshoring.

If you go & see old lady selling BOS, kick her in - the shins. nm

I can pick out at least 3 in that list that I know for sure just guessed.  I've QA'd their work and it's horrible.  Way to promote accuracy MM!  You know what would get those blanks down?  Educating dicators, fixing sound quality, keeping MTs in their primaries.  Nevermind, that won't work; it's the MTs that need to improve, obviously.  MM is run by complete boneheads. ...

New Year, New Me!
Jan 19, 2011

I am checking out my community college catalogue and getting excited at so many interesting courses.  I'm not looking for a long, drawn out process or degree, just some subjects that will be fun, creative and could also translate into making me more marketable.   As an MT, I lean more toward writing, computer, and maybe even something medical, as opposed to something like car mechanics or accounting.  Any ideas?     ...

I spent the morning reflecting and trying to figure out what to do and where this profession/company is heading.  In doing web searches found that MModal is opening up yet another center in Mysore, India and hoping to employee 500 employees.  I guess I am trying to figure out if it is indeed cheaper to employee Indians than US based employees after all the perks the Indians get like healthcare for the whole family including parents until they are 80, gym, free transportation, the cost ...
