I am relieved. I am going to file for unemployment then get another job. I am not sad at all. I spent 14 years doing this job. I was getting bored anyway.

They're all going the way of M or N, so may as well get out while you can. I left the M shortly after my almost-sort-of-okay company I was working for got sold to the M.

I had initially left the M after 14 years of them, to go with a "nicer" place, then got slammed back to the M 2 years later.

You can run, but you can't hide. Be warned.

I really liked Spheris. There was incentive pay and a 12-hour window to work 8. I guess I'll never escape MM.

...you don't even know. One day you're working one place, and the next day you're an employee of MM. You have no time to look for another job, make a decision as to whether you want to stay or go, nothing. I was stuck because of health insurance, but as soon as I was forced back to the M, I started looking for non-MT work and was out of the place within 6 months.

In other words, one day you'll get an e-mail telling you this is happening, do you want to stay or go, and you have almost no time to even think. In the next couple of days, you're officially working for the M. When that happened to me, I almost heaved my cookies, because I had already left the darn place----but I got on the stick and got out of MT completely.

If you are thinking of going to another place besides the M or the N, go in with very open eyes and a clear head that whichever MTSO you choose, it WILL be bought out within a couple of years, if that.

NOW is the time to seek other employment if you don't want to work for M or N in the very near future.

Is that typical for when a company is sold? I had not heard of it before. When does Probity plan to go to speech recognition? I see they have an ad on another site. Do new employees applying at Probity get the subsidy as well? I wonder if it is worthwhile to apply and work for them for the life of the subsidy (6 months) and then quit. I have over 30 years in this field and it seems that a lot of companies are either cutting the MT's pay to edit on ASR and/or are offshoring work out to India, Pakistan, Philippines, etc. I don't believe in sending our jobs overseas, and I've also given ASR at whirl (a long whirl lol) and I still couldn't increase my lines per hour to compensate for the cut in pay that I had to take by doing ASR.
