Work availability controlled by schools? - Hmmmmm! - Rocky Raccoon

Posted: Aug 26, 2010

All summer, my work has been slowly but steadily drying up.   "NJA" pops up so often, my PC screen is now starting to show those letters in that spot, even when I'm not logged on.

When your work gets slow, and you contact your company to inquire about it, don't you just WONDER how our workflow could possibly be tied-in with your local educational system?  I know I sure do.

May 2010:   Reason for NJA?   "School is almost over."

Early June 2010:  Reason for NJA?   "Graduation".

Late June 2010:  Reason for NJA?   "School is out.  It's vacation time."

Early July 2010:   Reason for NJA?  "School is still out, everyone's off for 4th-of-July holiday".  (You mean some people actually get to celebrate the 4th by not working?)

Late July 2010:  Reason for NJA?  "Summer school has started."

Early August 2010:  Reason for NJA?  "Summer school finals."

Late August 2010:  Reason for NJA?  "Summer school is out for Ramadan."

REALLY????  The entire medical transcription and healthcare industry's workflow hinges on what our schoolchildren are doing?   If that is the case, then I guess I have a pretty good idea of how the rest of the year and beyond is going to look:

September 2010:  Reason for NJA?  "School has started".

Late October 2010:  Reason for NJA?  "The flu season at school has started."  or, "It's Halloween - lots of people off work for the holiday."

November 2010:   Reason for NJA?  "School is off for Thanksgiving".

December 2010:   Reason for NJA?  "School is out for:  Hanukkah/Bodhi Day/Al Hijra/Las Posadas/Christmas/Boxing Day/Kwanzaa (take your pick)."

Early January 2011:  Reason for NJA?   "New Year's holiday."

Late January 2011:  Reason for NJA?   "School has started."

February 2011:  Reason for NJA?   "Valentine's Day."

March 2011:  Reason for NJA?   "Big storm.  Snow day at school."   (Even for MTs in Florida!  Uh, huh.  Yeah, right!)

Early April 2011:  Reason for NJA?  "It's tax time."

Late April 2011:  Reason for NJA?   "Spring break."

May 2011:  Reason for NJA?   "School is almost over."

Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhhh !!!!!!!        Yell

I LOVE your post, lol! - Thanks!

You are quite funny and a good writer. I would suggest you consider becoming a freelance writer, but having been down that path myself, I can assure you that you would encounter most of the same problems there, and then some.

Hit and run posters' comments are void because they don't have the courage of their convictions to put their name to the post.

This person who gives you this milarky knows who she is upon reading your post and hopefully feels as stupid as she thinks we are when she puts that crap out there.

I think shes told this lie so many times, she has begun - to believe it herself. (nm) RR

Lipids Controlled With Feb Rate/fibrate And Statin?
May 27, 2010

It s/l he is saying lipids are controlled with combination "fibrate and statin".  The word "fibrate or feb rate" are what is in question. Nice to see you guys again.  I have switched to yet another company.  It's all editing so far and it's low pay but if you commit yourself to a certain number of lines, you get bonuses.  The thing is - I have had nothing but horrid experiences working with editing, having to edit several words in almost every line.  This edit ...

Job Availability For New Coder
Feb 09, 2011

I am planning on enrolling in Andrews School to begin a new career in medical coding and also plan to become certified following that.  While looking at job opportunities, I see that most ALL job openings require 2-5 years experience in this profession.  On the other hand, I also read where this field of work is in demand of more coders.  Obviously, after finishing my course and becoming certified, I don't expect to walk right in and nail down the first job or two that I ...

Work Availability
Sep 06, 2013

I am in California but as I understood the law, if they REQUIRE you to return to work and they still cannot provide work, they are REQUIRED to pay you work availability again.  Isn't that true?  Also I have only seen any of this in emails.  Why hasn't the policy officially been changed yet.  Working on researching a complaint with the labor board.  This is BS. ...

NJA And Work Availability. Different For Each Account?
Nov 24, 2012

I'm so mixed up. What I read here about no jobs available and what we are being  required to do is much different.  Originally we were told to check for work every 30 minutes and could enter 30 min of work availability, but had to stay all shift.   The following day after doing this we get an email that says that was wrong and we can only have 15 min work availability and the time cards would be corrected to take out that extra 15 min originally instructed to include.&n ...

Work Availability E-mail
Jan 20, 2014

Anyone else get this e-mail.  WOW.  Unbelievable.  In part: . . . there are 2 options for when we have NJA/WA   1.  Make up time the same day NJA occurs.  If you can't get in all time throughout the day to contact  TSM to make up additional time when slots are available.  DO NOT work outside your hours on any other day without permission from TSM.   2.  PTO. There is no excused absence to be used for time not able to get in.  . . .& ...

How Do You Figure Your Work Availability Time?
Nov 23, 2012

I Am Thinking Of Clocking In Under Work Availability While
Apr 25, 2013

If I am sitting at my computer waiting for jobs to come in every 5-13 minutes, I should be paid. I should not have to be penalized by an adverse effect on my line count if I were to stay clocked in as production. Waiting for jobs while clocked out is still being on the job if you are signed into Fluency. So, the way I figure, you are still working, but off the clock. Plus, as proof that you are working off the clock, your Fluency log in time will be greater than your clocked in time. ...

Coding Schools - Where Did YOU Go?
Jun 01, 2010

Okay, here we go again.....if anyone has attended a coding school in the last year, is attending a coding school, could you please post your thoughts (was it worth the money, quality, etc)?  I know several people are still on the fence as to whether to pay the large sum to go to a private school (Andrews, DeVry) or attend community colleges in preparation to take their credentials in coding.  I've been reading posts saying the education from all is basically the same, of course it ...

Licensed Schools
Aug 10, 2012

I learned from someone who found out the hard way that it's important to make sure whatever school you go to is licensed by their state. The information is supposed to be displayed on their website and any other catalogs or ads. If not, there may be a problem. The school in question would tell everyone their state didn't require a license. It turned out that the school kept moving not only from state to state, but from country to country and the state they had been living in did requir ...

Penn Foster Schools

Connection Between Companies/MT Schools?
Feb 07, 2010

Have to admit I'm pretty shocked by several of the posts on this forum, especially concerning how the companies are operating.  New to the MT world here, and guess I'm green.  Hadn't heard much at the school I attended except this forum was "too negative."  I now see there's a legit reason for negative posts about companies if these posters are being honest, and I have no reason to believe they're not. Just wondering how tight a connection the MT schools ...
