Who treats MTs worse - MTSOs or other MTs? - Willa

Been lurking awhile and decided I had to make an observation about MT's on this forum who have no problem whatsoever when it comes to naming a company they hate, but then when they find a good company that treats them well, pays decently or is a desirable employer in some other way, they suddenly become very coy about naming that company. It's obvious that they're afraid someone else is going to belly up to the bar and squeeze them out, or take work away from them.

You can see a perfect example of this today on the Company Board where the MT trashes Transcend for 10 minutes by name, but then adds that she got hired by a "very good company" that treats her well, etc., etc., etc.  Apparently, either she can't remember the name of this good company or she has some other reason that she doesn't want you to know which company it is.  It's like "I got mine, and I'm going to keep it a secret."  And we're supposed to congratulate her.

We trash AHDI and MTSO's constantly for disregarding the best interests of the MT community, and then we turn around and practice a version of the very same thing on our own sisters by deliberately withholding valuable information.

Oh - and I don't buy this excuse:  "I don't want the company to be flooded with applications".   You can sell that bridge to some other sucker.

I can also understand keeping the good info to myself. If someone has a nightmare experience with a company, much like the one that is mentioned on here for a history of non-payment, I think it is doing the other MTs a favor to do that. And maybe it is selfish, but I worked my way through several different companies to find one that suits my needs. I do post positive things about my company if someone specifically asks about it, but I don't volunteer it.

Much in the way I posted a negative review online recently for a coffee pot I bought, I did not find it necessary to end it with the name of the coffee pot I bought after I returned it.

There is some validity to not wanting one's current employer flooded with applicants. I like knowing that I've got plenty of work and if they were to hire more people, I might lose that. So in that respect, I guess I am selfish. But I don't think that makes warning people about red flags at other companies wrong. As in the case of the non-payer, I think it provides a valuable piece of information to other MTs that might be ripped off, and to me it's more important that someone warn me of danger rather than name their happy place.

Maybe it is just around this place, maybe it is everywhere, but I think a good majority of MTs are down right nasty to eachother for no apparent reason at all.

I especially cant stand when someone replies to a post, spewing off their opinions but degrading others for having an opinion, and then replying until they get the absolute last word.

I am absolutely sick of the nastiness between human beings, on chat boards and in real life.

My experience has been the same on the job. It is not necessarily the MTSO that causes me stress, but the other MTs on the account are the source and cause of a lot of stress on the job. For instance, with cherrypicking...

While cherry-pickers do indeed peeve me off, I don't lay awake at night worrying about the witch that took the Dr. Smith job from me; that may cost me a couple of bucks a day. Irritating, heck yes.

But it's the MTSO who could take my job out from under me at any point, who changes the rules on a daily basis, and who could lower my wage with nothing more than a shrug that causes me stress. And who also could put a stop to cherry-picking if they wanted, rather than condone it for a select few.

To bad mouth employers, past or present, by name in a public forum, one never knows who might be reading the messages. Believe it or not, some day you might need a recommendation from one of them!

If a company has shown a pattern of bad behavior, MTs should be warned about it. Like the non-paying example above, if people did not post about it by name, how many other MTs would give at least two weeks of free work to that company?

She specifically said she JUST started at the new company. How could she give any kind of experience with them other than the one she stated in her post. She said that they have treated her kindly and with respect.

She has not been with the company any length of time to give an accurate assessment anyway. Suppose she is there for a year and everything changes and she finds out it isn't her fit after all. By giving out the name of that company now, at this point, she would really be misleading you and other MTs if it turns out they are only kind and respectful in the beginning. I can't begin to tell you how many companies I worked for like that.

I think the best thing to do regarding "good or bad" companies is to just read the posts and accept the fact that each person's experiences differ. You will only find a "good" company by doing your own leg work to see if the company is actually a good fit for you.

On the other hand, the poster's bad experience with Transcend is not limited to just her experience. I think that with the number of people experiencing bad things with Transcend, that is an indication of what an MT does NOT want in a company, and that can be useful information in your job search.

Can you say - entitlement mentality?

I've got a great job with a great company and in no way, shape, or form do I think it is my duty to share that company's name with you. I understand that you may be frustrated if you are in a bad situation, but you really seem to have a stinky attitude. Don't take it out on the rest of us just because we have done the research and found a nice fit.

I just posted basically this same response in that thread on the Company board that you're talking about. I don't post the name of my company any more, nor do I enter into threads about it any more. Been there and done that and people who did not have as positive an experience with them as I have had were not kind in their opinions of my posts. I've been called various things from a suit to a cheerleader.

It has nothing to do with not wanting someone to apply to my company. I just don't want to open myself up to anything or derail the thread topic and have it degenerate into a she said/she said about whether a company is good or not, when my experience with the company has been nothing but positive.

That's the only reason that I don't refer to my company by name any more. It has nothing to do with wanting to keep other MTs out of it.

One of my accounts, best ever to IC for, has specifically requested that we do not name them on industry message boards. They will choose how they wish to recruit, and do not wish to be bombarded with unsolicited emails and resumes, which is exactly what happens as soon as someone says... XYZ is the greatest company ever!

Try looking at an issue with a less myopic view.

If we really respect the MTSO, we don't want them to be flooded with applications from people with poor skills and/or bad attitudes. I would estimate from back when I hired MTs that 80% have very poor training or none at all. Probably 30% may have some skills, but poor work habits/work ethics. Probably only 5% have a really bad attitude, but put 5 MTs with a bad attitude into the mix and that's 5 too many. They will make it miserable for everyone else. We all know that there are people on here who fit that 'bad attitude' description and not one of us wants to be responsible for bringing them to work for a company (boss) (supervisor) we like.

I love my job where I work and I would never ever in 100 years put their name up here. From the posts I read from some of these posters outright trashing companies and other MTs, I would never ever want to work with them or would want my employer to go through the grief. I respect them too much. I think you are right on about the skill level and attitude - to a "T".

I thought this ASR crap was supposed to get better as it "learns" the doctors and their frequently-used phrases... didn't someone say that back in training? I'm talking about DSG in particular, but I know a lot of people use DQS ASR, so please bear with me. So, how come it now can't seem to get a single sentence without major corrections having to be done? I'm about ready to apply at McDonald's if this keeps up... my pay is about 1/3 of what it was when we did straight ...

I was terminated for reasons I won't go into here--after 9+ years at my last employer.  Thing is--I was looking anyway and informed potential employers that the company just was "no longer a good fit."  What finally tipped the balance was an e-mail we got a few months ago stating that after an MT had sent a certain percentage of reports to editing for comprehension issues, for instance, they would be penalized 0.03 cpl for doing so! Assuming this is legal, IMO, it's immoral ...

Had not heard of this before. Has anyone noticed that fairly suddenly ASR recognition has gotten much worse.  I know it was pretty bad before, but now I've noticed that even with the clear dictators where in the past the ASR recognition was okay, it's now HORRIBLE.  Weren't we promised the ASR would get BETTER with time.  Didn't they LOWER our pay when they said it got better before.  So, wouldn't it only be fair to move the pay back UP now that it is so horriible and NOT improvin ...

Recently the only work availabe has been the absolutely worst dictator I have ever done in my 25 years transcribing for hundreds of different doctors and specialties. ILPs Getting Worse?

Does it seem that the ILPs are leaving blanks for anything and everything lately?  I mean, most of the stuff is clear as day.  Then it goes through 2 ILP QA and they can't get it either, although I have long since realized that the other levels of QA don't even look at the report but just send it on anyway.   After about a year of being trying to be super MME and fixing all the ILP errors in their report (usually 10-20+ per report), I decided I didn't care about it ...

Any Transcenders out there noticing that all of a sudden the editing software is doing a more horrible job than normal?  I'm having to format all over the place things that would usually be formatted correctly, and it is coming up with entire sentences that sound nothing like what the dictator is saying, and not just ESLs but regular American doctors.  It is very frustrating having to put so much more work into these reports now for the 4 cpl I'm getting.  My line count ...
