What is wrong with our industry? Employers just come up with one silly idea after another - Bad business decisions affect them and us

Posted: Mar 24, 2011

I don't know where they get all of their silly ideas, one new, amazing idea after another. You would think they would look back at the last several silly ideas they've had that didn't work and use some common sense, but that doesn't happen.

It's always the idea to end all ideas, but those ideas never end well.

Just a vent.

It isn't just our industry. Business leaders just panic & do stuff, even if it's wrong - My Opinion

There is no common sense these days. Don't even bother to look for it. You can see it happening everywhere in this economy. Things aren't going well, big-shots panic and bring in advisers who say to throw out everything and go another direction. They do that and it doesn't work, advisers change the advice to even worse advice, which is held up as the greatest thing ever, until it proves not to be. Sigh! I would love to see some common sense in business.

perhals clients are catching on to this and either goin VR - or hiring back inhouse? thinking clients not dens

its gonna blow....

to finish--not dense to world around them - food for thought NM

I keep seeing more and more placed hiring inhouse. - s/msg

I keep seeing ads for inhouse MTs at a hospital that is one of my accounts. At the same time, there is talk that this hospital is not happy with the MTSO I work for, and I wouldn't be surprised if this hospital starts to bring most, if not all, of its work back on site.
I live foir the day...have been saying fore years it is the only - solution to this entangled mess. NM

I think their motto is, "Do Something, Even If It's Wrong!" - Mindboggling sometimes

Well, being fair, this is a terrible economy and I think they get scared, panic, and act out in fear. They think if they just change a few procedures here, change out a few people here, eliminate a few other old-and-tried principles here and replace them with a few new flaky ideas there, and everything will be fine. The economy will instantly recover and there will be peace on earth.

Also, the execs get paid for changing things - or to justify their existence

I think a lot of the time they get bored. They also know that in order to keep their highly-paid positions, they have to do something.

This Silly Audits
Apr 15, 2010

This is silly Not only do we need to follow CP guidelines but BOS and then DocQscribe standards. So even if you have the first 2, the third will get you audit.    Why can't they spend the money and create one set of rules to follow and be done with it.  We work on production now.  checking on previous dictated reports and then double checking guidelines from all three areas ??  and when you send in a blank now I am also being questioned about the audio etc.&nb ...

Just For Fun. A Few Silly Codes.
Sep 30, 2014

...but this was in my newspaper today and it cracked me up. Commentators have had fun with the new system of medical diagnostic codes (denominated in from four to ten digits each) scheduled to take effect in October 2015, and the Ć¢€œHealthcare DiveĆ¢€ blog had its laughs in a July post. The codes for "problems in relationship with in-laws" and "bizarre personal appearance" are quixotic enough, but the most Ć¢€œabsurd" codes are "subsequent encounters" (that is, at least the second time ...

More Silly Union Talk
Jan 31, 2011

Before responding, please read this post carefully. Yes, I’m talking union here, but NOT an MT union which would be pointless. Unfortunately we’ve missed that opportunity. Also, this post is intended for experienced professional MTs and include my thoughts on several topics that started down below. And hold onto your hats; this is a long one.   I’ve chimed in on this subject before, but I wanted to make an official post to put it out there and get valuable feedback fro ...

Fluency Silly Question - Or Not ?
Jun 05, 2014

Recently got new computer and started using Windows 7 Professional. When I type p.o. I get two spaces after each period.  Not sure if a fluency or a Win 7 problem.  I have scoured all settings, to no avail.  Also, what I had fixed before, when I type p.o. I get p.O. Any ideas how to get rid of the capital O.  I have taken out all autoinserts in settings to avoid caps at beginning of new sentences, etc.  This is getting annoying, I waste a lot of time going back to delete ...

Silly Me. I Was Hoping For Better Insurance.
Nov 04, 2014

Way to go Nuance! I had actually hoped we'd at least get copays this time, even if it meant paying more. Disgusting. Plain and simple. Having insurance that you can barely afford and can't even use because of the obscenely high deductible and no co-pays is ridiculous. This year is even more special - we are signing up for something we don't even know that we can afford because of the compensation changes they have promised. I am going to check into opting out a ...

Where Have All The Employers Gone?
Jan 21, 2011

Even though I just let my AHDI membership expire, I was still due one more issue of their journal, Plexus, which I received today. In previous issues, I always scanned the "Employers Guide" pages in the back of the journal, and there were many  employers listed - at least two pages' worth. This newest issue, however, lists only seven. Perhaps the rest went overseas? ...

2 Jobs At Once 2 Employers
Oct 15, 2009

I have been an MT for about 4 years now.  I have been working with one employer doing speech editing transcribing 3200 lines per 8-hour shift.  However, I just received a 2nd job from a different employer working part-time and they pay more.  My question is one employer needs my computer to have Word 2003 on it for their program to work and the other employer needs my computer to have Word 2007.  How can I do both jobs at the same time.  Has anyone done this before and i ...

Rude Employers
Jan 19, 2011

Are the rest of you as disgusted as I am with not hearing back after sending an application?  Are all these ads for work just made up to look like there are jobs when in reality the ads are fakes?  I hear from so many other MTs/editors that they apply for jobs but never hear back, even after receiving permisson to do testing.  Maybe we should all stop applying and let them sit and spin! ...

Employers' Platforms
May 14, 2011

Has anyone here turned down a job with an MTSO because their platform is crappy? My employer's platform is TERRIBLE!!  You have go through 15 mouse commands (no hot keys!) to perform the simplest function such as signing off a job.  I have never seen more inefficient software in my life!!  Of course, since they own it now they claim it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.... Would love to hear your platform stories!! ...

Potential Employers Interview Process
Mar 22, 2011

So I graduated in February and began the job hunt.  Finally I receive one call back from a local company. To date I have attended two seperate interviews. The second time I was supposed to test but the computer was not working so a couple of weeks later they schedule testing at one of the transcriptionist house.  I test and the computer freezes up.  Luckily the test is recovered the next day and sent to the boss for review.  Get another call today, and am told that ...

Are The Remaining In-house Employers Discriminating
Jul 22, 2011

at home for MTSOs?  Some ads seem to want X-number of years of RECENT on-site MT experience.  Others don't say that, but with so many failed job applications this past year, even for areas that I've specialized in for 20 years, I'm getting no interest, and often no replies at all.  In addition to having more than 20 years' experience, do you think these employers have a problem with work-at-home MTs?  Like maybe they see us as undisciplined, poorly trained ...

Getting Response Back From Prospective Employers

Clearing Past Employers' Software Off My Computer
