In addition to writing to your representatives, we should all try to get our story in the news. ABC World News or any of the others woulld be a great avenue to try. We just need to get their attention. Most average people don't even know about the MTStars site..we need to change that. They ask to keep it brief, so I would refer them to the site and make brief statements about outsourcing, how our pay has been cut in half, that VR is not all it has been made out to be, and how people from Indiia are doing the QA for our work. Make an anonymous email if you need to. The worst thing you can do is be aware of a wrong situation and not try to do something about it. Even if you don't get results, you tried.

I've already moved on and am much happier - for it.

I suggest you do the same. I don't think any of us, even banded together, could stop what's been put in motion for a long time now. If we all move on sooner than later, I think we'll be better off for it. I know I am.

I definitely agree. I have already decided to move on and am applying for jobs out of the MT field, just giving suggestions to others who may want to try to stay. Hate to see something wrong happening and not at least try to get the word out.

I asked how HIPAA laws can be enforced in a foreign country regarding medical records being done in India. Of course there are ways around this or the work would not be thriving in India. Thank our crooked politicians for this.

Don't bother trying to explain what blasphemy is, they will never understand. That's someone from a MTSO, the ones who talk about transcriptionists being corpses, you're wasting your time, this has been done before..all MTSO people who don't want us complaining and will try to argue. Would be to start a thread with not only what we want media to know, but what the public needs to know about what is happening to their medical records. Media wants drama so they can include how personal medical records shipped to India have been sold to media, patients who have died from errors in transcription that is not edited by a qualified MT/ME, etc. They need to know the education and experience it takes to do this job and how little we are paid and the reduction in wages from those 30 years before. I'm all for it, I just don't have time to put it together, but if you can, I commend you for it.

Someone posted that this has "already been done" but I disagree. It has not been done on a large level that will attract support from the public who would be appalled at where their records are going and the errors that slip by with VR. Thanks for bringing this up!

do a report on the aftermath of years of corporate greed and offshoring of ALL types of American jobs, and the effect it's had on families trying to get by: People in bankruptcy, kids on welfare, MTs and others trying to live in their cars. Also, since it's an "employer's market" right now, a story about the positively RIDICULOUS demands those who are hiring are making: Wanting B.A.'s and Master's degrees for stupid secretarial jobs. Or calling a job "entry-level", and then in the same paragraph, also requiring 3-5 years' experience in that same field. (How is that "entry-level"?) All for a lousy $9.50 an hour. And on top of that, with the dropping pay in just about every middle-class field these days, look at what's happening to housing prices.

A story like that might make a good lead-in to followup stories, such as the very real possibility of a civil war in the US if our out-of-balance economy continues along on its current trajectory.

If you want to get a good picture of Walmart, rent the film "Walmart: The High Cost of Low Prices." Netflix has it. I have not set foot in a Walmart since I saw it. I am on a budget, especially now that I am (semi) retired. But I will be darned if I will take my savings in the marketplace by stepping on the backs of others, which is just what Walmart does to its workers, not to mention the mom and pops they put out of business.

I buy organic produce at the healthfood store. It's preventative medicine and justified.

this is being done everywhere, not just by walmart. to have any kind of effect at all, stop shoppng at any national stores (kroger, macy's, lord and taylor, k-mart, etc). they all do it and walmart is no different. shop used and shop at mom and pop's.

Except for food (obviously!), everything else I don't buy new - only used. I try to pay only cash for gasoline, rather than credit cards, because the cheapest gas is usually at those generic stations that don't even have credit cards of their own. I haven't eaten in a fast-food restaurant in 6 or 7 years. I'm sure there's more I've been doing, but that's all I can remember for now.

It's a small thing to do but it makes you feel good that you are doing something to not buy into the whole trap of the easy cheap big-box mentality. I live in an apartment and I would grow a garden if I could, but none of my windows gets any sun for long, not enough to grow anything but herbs. I eventually want to grow my own food if I can find a house to rent in my price range.

Debbie is an MT who is starting with the Joint Commission about there needing to be some control over how medical records are created to ensure accuracy. It would be great to work with her on this. Her plan is to go to media if the Joint Commission refuses to do anything. See link below.

I have been an MT for over 20 years and have worked at a few different companies. I am currently with DSG, and I just have to say, DSG seems to have the WORST dictators of any company that I have worked for. I work on 5 different accounts for them and it is all the same. Lately I have not bee doing well, short on line count, a few bad audits, I am in the dog house. I now have a fear that a I too will be let go. It is hard to work like this, wish I could just quit, but cannot right now, maybe in a few months, unless they terminate me. I understand the policy, 150 LPH, but sometimes I just cannot make it, dictators are bad, unfamiliar accounts. When it is good, it is good, but when it is bad, it is bad! I guess I will just keep plugging along until other wise :( ...

What if the extremely lower than ever volumes (OOW on 3 accounts at a time) is because some of the acute worktypes are being converted to ambulatory care WT since more and more patients are kept in observation status or "extended recovery" instead of being admitted. W(c)ould not some of those same-day surgery types perhaps be called ambulatory? We would likely be kept in the dark about that just like everything else, don't you reckon? I have worked for Nuance a long time ago. They had e-scription and it was the worst program i have ever been in. I had to check, check, and double check the demographics and God forbid if there was something i had to correct! By the time i got to transcribing, i had already wasted a half-hour.
