How about a poll? - like if you agree dislike if you do not

Posted: Oct 17, 2012

Like this message if you believe there is no future in MT and that the best plan is to escape.  Dislike this message if you believe in MT and think what we need to do is unionize or use some other means to try to save it.

Not everybody is bad off - anon

Some of us are doing OK and have no other choice but to work at home. I am too disabled to work outside of the home (no, not collecting disability). I worked extremely hard to build up my clientele instead of doing whatever and having fun. I spent a lot of time and money and now reap the rewards because I worked for it.

You are beating a dead horse here...SM - Peanut

The issue it not that cut and dried. It's not an either or situation. I personally would like to give this issue a rest.

it's just an opinion poll - what dead horse

[ In Reply To ..]
I never said it was cut and dried and I'm not sure what you'd like to give a rest, but there seem to be two factions these days, the ones who think we need to "save" the MT profession, and those who think that the profession is no longer viable. So far it looks like the "savers" are in the minority.

Good. I worked long and hard - to learn this profession (not)

[ In Reply To ..]
to have my livelihood stolen by corporate thieves and work with hospitals and doctors who don't care that I am making minimum wage because they went with an MTSO to save money.

So you need to work at home and don't collect disability. How many hours a week do you work? What cpl do you charge your clients? Do you do all the work yourself or subcontractors? What do you pay your subcontractors?

Do you get preference when you submit bids because you have a disability?

Life shouldn't be so grim for all of us. You deserve what you have worked for and deserve fun. We deserve to paid for the work we do, instead of having our pay stolen by people in management.

There would be no MTSOs except for us. Even with VR they still need us (desperately).

Then you get to click on Dislike - but you are outnumbered

[ In Reply To ..]
It's just an opinion poll.

both are negative - me

[ In Reply To ..]
what if you're happy, don't need a union, and think the market will right itself and some MTs just won't like what that looks like?

that falls under "other means" - you get to click Like

[ In Reply To ..]
You think the profession is still viable.

sorry I mean Dislike - you think the profession is viable

[ In Reply To ..]
Dislike if you think profession is still viable.
my problem is with the second part of the dislike sentence - OHMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't click either option. I don't like the way the profession is changing and that wages are dropping. However, I also don't believe a union will fix the problem. Why give more of our hard-earned cash to some union thugs who will only scare away the companies that are still left here for us to work for? They will just be more inclined to ship our work offshore to countries that don't have unions.
I did'nt click either like or dislike because neither - applies to my opinoin.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm.
that's why I added "other means" - to save it
[ In Reply To ..]
you believe it is worth saving, or you don't. You think it is viable and has a future, or you don't. You think you will be able to continue doing this for years to come, or you don't.
Save what? Transcription is evolving and changing with - technology. It will never be old school again..sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I agree with the lady that said, it's changing and if we or whoever else does not like it, we need to get out.

There is nothing to save, you cant bring back the old days. We are living in the year of 2012 soon to be 2013. It's about technology and truth be told, they dont have to use us - They can switch to EPIC or point and click systems. So what is your point? What are you trying to save?
Let me also add though - That I love my job and will ride it - out till the end, editing and all and I
[ In Reply To ..]
am not one of the ones who liked or disliked your post, I just did not agree with it one way or the other.

I have no complaints and I like what I do. So I will stick with it for as long as I can.
no, that wasnt the question - me

" Dislike this message if you believe in MT and think what we need to do is unionize or use some other means to try to save it."

I don't want to unionize (heaven forbid) and I don't think there needs to be anything done to save it. So I don't qualify for dislike.

It's going to right itself. It's just a matter of who's left standing when it does.
going to right itself how? - what do you mean
[ In Reply To ..]
exactly how do you think this thing is going to right itself?

What the poster meant by dead horse. - Silly poll

[ In Reply To ..]
We cannot save anything. As pointed out, technology is changing and we have to change with it, make it work for us. If you cannot do that, you do need to "escape." If you are not working on an account making the pay you feel is appropriate, you need to find another one or "escape."

This unionizing is the "dead horse." IT IS SIMPLY NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. It has been discussed here for years and years. IT WILL NOT WORK. You cannot stop progression, and this progression is going to evolve. You have no choice but to evolve with it or do the escape. What do you think a "union" is going to do? This is like saying the Sears or J.C. Penney catalog workers are going to unionize. For what? Technology replaced them. End of story.

I'm the dead horse poster and thank you...sm - Peanut

[ In Reply To ..]
for summarizing my thoughts so perfectly and succinctly. That was my exact meaning.

well make up your own poll then - phrase it how you want it

[ In Reply To ..]
and I'll vote on yours

ok. Polls - like or dislike? - NM

I liked your poll. - RC

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry people are nitpicking it.

Poll - Cheerio

I agree. I think MT is a thing of the past. I feel for those who get hooked into ads on MT schools and pay a lot of money for a job that is a thing of the past. It is slave labor now.

Another Poll.
Mar 23, 2010

I would like honest answers. Who will be writing an essay?   I, for one, will not be for so many reasons I can't even state them all, but you all know them well.  The sad fact is that I have only been with MQ since October.  Was promised the moon...but, well, we see where that has gone.  I don't even know where my primary account is anymore!   I fully believe that even if NO ONE submits an essay, there will be a "winner" anyhow, but I'm curios to see ...

6.1 Poll
Sep 15, 2010

I'm one of the holdouts on switching to 6.1.  I use my own computer, a Vista 32 bit and it sounds like it should work.  However, there are so many people complaining how sluggish their computer is now, while others say they are having no problems, I'm curious.  My questions are: 1.  Are you using your own computer? 2.  Is it Vista, XP or Windows 7? 3.  Are you having problems with 6.1 being slow? I guess I'm hoping to hear that my computer will ru ...

MT Poll
Dec 23, 2011

I am curious as to the status of other MTs around the country.  If you are a regular production-paid MT working as an employee or IC for a transcription company (i.e. not a team lead, supervisor, owner, etc.), I would appreciate your feedback in this little poll. How many years have you been in this business? What company do you currently work for? What platform (if any) do you currently work with? How many lines per hour do you average? How many hours a week do you work? What is your ...

Can We Do A Pay Poll?
Oct 30, 2014

I think it will help us all to know where we stand.  Maybe put a range of experience first, like 1-5 years, 6-10 years, 11-15 and 15+ and then your Regular/SR rate (not including any eve or weekend differentials).  I'll start:  11-15 years of experience.  0.0825 regular/ 0.0465 SR. For me, this is a pay cut recently.  I was working at a different company until recently, making .09 regular and .05.  Even though I know this MT thing is going down, it still suck ...

Taking A Poll? How Much Time Per Day

Unofficial Poll - Escription Numbered Lists
Apr 24, 2014

I am just curious. About what percentage of lists that appear in your reports numbered, as in past medical history or medications, comes out correctly?
