Poll: How many have been working for MQ more than 3 years. - Maverick

Posted: Jan 01, 2010

I started out in 1989 with one company who merged with that company who bought out that company and then merged with that company known as The MRC Group who merged with Transcription Limited who is now known as MQ.

more than 3 - much

Does anyone remember Shelly? Great boss!

Oh my goodness.... Shelly was my boss too! - reunion

[ In Reply To ..]
I still get updates on how she is doing from one of the old QA girls. I loved Shelly and Mike. WAAAHHHHH..... I want my old life back!
Those were the days :-( I kept in touch with her and she works for another MT company....sm - Me too
[ In Reply To ..]
She called me when she started with the new company and asked if I needed a job about 1-1/2 years ago and I almost went for it....but still here with MQ. Do you remember the woman they hired to do QA in the office back then? I still have my corrected reports she did back when I started training in the office. I miss the receptionist also...she was a doll. Oh well, back to reality...ugh!
I also was contacted by her - reunion
[ In Reply To ..]
She did not stay there long and then started working for another company. I still talk with my QA girl weekly! Helga was the receptionist!
Oh dear, I miss them all so much. I still have the x-mas photo hanging up on my desk as I cannot bear to take it down. Thanks for taking me on a walk down memory lane, now I can cry myself to sleep!
I still have Helga's back pillow she gave me when i visited the office.... - Me too

before they closed up the office. The accounts I had back then were great! I took a lot of pride in my work...and still do...but its getting harder keeping up with the constant changes. I know a few who have left only to find the same problems at other companies. So, I'll just go with the flow as long as the money is there. ;-)

That is partly why I am asking. I wondered if I and a few others are the only ones who are left working for MQ and most are now newbies. Sorry newbies, but I am curious if many of the MQ'ers who have worked here for ages are now gone to greener pastures.
Almost 11 years here - outta here
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm on my way to greener pastures real soon. I have a second job lined up and will start this week. It's not MT, and straight typing, no ASR. If I can get enough work doing it, I'm outta here!

Yay!!! It feels great to have hope again.
I've seen my attitude morph negatively over the years. - poodlepassion
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't use to be so cynical. I believe it has come about with so many changes made by MQ not made to benefit the MT and I've begun to hate myself for choosing to work here. Being in my 50s doesn't make it very easy to choose another career, but I've been very actively looking. I'd like to find a job where I can put my long years of experience to good use, AND be appreciated.

I do feel like I have to add.......... - Kiki

[ In Reply To ..]
I was much happier in the past than I am now. Not sure if I will stay here much longer. Just depends on how things go. I used to really be worried about the laid off thing, too. But I do realize that even if that were to happen, there ARE other jobs; this is not the only MT job. I do worry about off-shoring (way more than ASR) taking a lot of our jobs.

Aye. nm - Multi-MTSO MT

And I'm probably an oddball, but with all the ups and downs over the years since I've joined, I find this job challenging and still enjoy it, although there have been times when I have wanted to scream.

13 years.. and still here...you joggled my memory, it was MRG Group.

Do you mean - MT Bottle

[ In Reply To ..]
DO you mean MRC Group? I worked with a company that merged with them and as far as I'm concerned that was the beginning of the end, probably back in 1994 or 1995, somewhere around there. With that merger I began to realize there were too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.

Started at Transcriptions LTD, i'm sticking w it, I have no other schooling nor skills. I've started in that direction though *sigh*. Glad to see others are sticking it out, maybe we will get a nice package.

Thanks for posting. My boss used to be Jay Cannon at Medifax in 1991-1992. - Maverick

[ In Reply To ..]
I started out with Dictation West then at Medifax. Then Medifax supposedly bought out Secrephone (although there were arguments about that) and we became The MRC Group and then it was merged with Transcription Limited.

Memories of MRC - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes I do remember this. I believe it was Secrephone that was bought out by MRC. I do not have very good memories of the whole event either. I chose to leave soon after that and went with a small MTSO.

Wouldn't you know a few years later that small MTSO was taken over by Medquist. Stuck it out for another 5 or 6 years and had to get out. Just couldn't take any more. I'm with a small MTSO again and much much happier.

The greedy suits are the reason many of us are struggling to survive, that is those of us who do not have the gumption to go out and find our own clients or at the very least find a better MTSO to work for.

10+ years here for me, but no - Will die along with MQ and then retire

[ In Reply To ..]
"white flag upon my door." I have tried other places and always come crawling back, too hard to start over at my age and too hard to give up the good accounts I have now and the PTO. I have found that every company has the same crap, just different names for it.

MQ in the past - anyone

[ In Reply To ..]
Anyone on here that worked for MQ in San Diego in the 90's?

Started in 1994 - hEireann

[ In Reply To ..]
I started in 1994 when it was MRC. It was great, working in the regional Nashville office doing just ER reports and making tons of money. I quit in 2000 to work in a local hospital. They decided to outsource their transcription and I came back to MQ in 2006. Things have really changed over the years with new technology, outsourcing and voice recognitiion. I have been transcribing since 1977, got my RN degree in 1986, but even while I was getting my degree I worked full-time for MRC. I knew I would stick with being an MT, I really loved it that much. I have become ambivalent just lately because of all the changes with MQ. I am still making a good living, but I am very concerned for the future.

Have been with the Q going on 6 years. It seems my downfall was being bought out by C-Bay. Everything pretty much just went to H**L in a handbasket at that time, pay, supervisors, etc. I'm really hoping that things will look up. I once again have a new CCM and she is great. Soooooooo, maybe 2010 will be a turn around point; I can hope can't I????

Maverick my friend, you sure know how to ask them - Dinosaur

[ In Reply To ..]
I started with the original MRC owned by the Marcus brothers. I signed out my first pack of job tickets (remember those)? In 1973. Yes, I have been here over 30+ years. I am a true dinosaur. We used a chisel and stone tablet.

Anyone Take An Outside Job After Working At Home For Years?
Jan 28, 2010

A month or so ago, I sent a resume for a medical/legal transcription position locally and forgot all about it until they called today! Being in the middle of an op report, I wasn't thinking and said yes to an interview on Monday. I haven't worked outside the home in 15 years! I don't really have anything to wear in a lawyer's practice anymore. I don't know if I should cancel the interview or go.  Will I be able to handle working outside the home again? A ...

After 10 Years Of MT, Finally Working Outside Of Home Again
Sep 27, 2013

Got an office job 3 days a week making $15 hour, still will do Mt prn, but won't have to stress anymore about my lines. I am glad I got to stay home with my kids over those years, but if I had to do it again, I would of stayed working. The financial stress that me and my family went through, bankruptcy, never having money to do anything fun, no vacations. I don't think it was worth it. Oh well, they tried to tell us in MT school back in 2001 there was talk of VR then, now its EMR a ...

After Years And Years Of Being IC, Obtained Employee Status At A Co. Sm
Nov 26, 2012

Thought that after not having enough work for a couple years now and always chasing work, I'd now have a "real job" as an employee and wouldn't have to worry about a steady paycheck and paying the bills anymore. The reason I thought this was because at the interview and in their professional company emails, they use all the "real job" words:  Shift, scheduled hours, overtime, PTO, benefits, etc.  I felt relieved to finally have a "job." What a big bunch of BS! I was "hired" ...

3 Years. Question: How Many More Years Do You Plan To Be An MT/editor?
Dec 20, 2013

There is much speculation about the field of transcription - how many of us actually plan to be here 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now. I realize that the field is going to change, which will contribute to your answer. Will there be enough transcriptionists/editors to fill the need in 5 years and in 10 years? Will the industry be forced out of offshoring because of taxes? Will there be a need even for editors if VR gets better? These are all unanswered questions, but my question is, what ...

I Worked For M*Modal A Couple Of Years Ago Or So And I Worked For Medquist Several Years Ago.
Aug 08, 2014

Lately, I've been getting legal notices mailed to my home from I believe the east coast somewhere informing me of a class action lawsuit against M*Modal and inviting me to joint if I have a claim.  I don't think I have a claim, but then again with all the shady practices in this business, I'm not so sure.  I'm just curious what the heck is going on. Anyone care to give me the lowdown? ...

Another Poll.
Mar 23, 2010

I would like honest answers. Who will be writing an essay?   I, for one, will not be for so many reasons I can't even state them all, but you all know them well.  The sad fact is that I have only been with MQ since October.  Was promised the moon...but, well, we see where that has gone.  I don't even know where my primary account is anymore!   I fully believe that even if NO ONE submits an essay, there will be a "winner" anyhow, but I'm curios to see ...

6.1 Poll
Sep 15, 2010

I'm one of the holdouts on switching to 6.1.  I use my own computer, a Vista 32 bit and it sounds like it should work.  However, there are so many people complaining how sluggish their computer is now, while others say they are having no problems, I'm curious.  My questions are: 1.  Are you using your own computer? 2.  Is it Vista, XP or Windows 7? 3.  Are you having problems with 6.1 being slow? I guess I'm hoping to hear that my computer will ru ...

MT Poll

I am curious as to the status of other MTs around the country.  If you are a regular production-paid MT working as an employee or IC for a transcription company (i.e. not a team lead, supervisor, owner, etc.), I would appreciate your feedback in this little poll. How many hours a week do you work? What is your ...

Can We Do A Pay Poll?

I think it will help us all to know where we stand.  Maybe put a range of experience first, like 1-5 years, 6-10 years, 11-15 and 15+ and then your Regular/SR rate (not including any eve or weekend differentials).  I'll start:  11-15 years of experience.  0.0825 regular/ 0.0465 SR.
