Does anybody know what happened to University of Washington transcription? - SeahawksChamps

They used to always be hiring, but I haven't seen anything out of there in quite a while now. What has changed? Anybody got the scoop?

I believe they do not have an in-house transcription department anymore. The only hospital I know of in-house at this time in Seattle is Children's. Harborview used to be in-house but I heard they are doing away with their dept. as well.

Their hospitals and clinics converted to Epic and I think transcription was either outsourced or absorbed by VR or templating. I know someone who worked for Children's who was laid off so I think they have cut back on their staff. Harborview is affiliated with the U of W so it's probably all being combined somehow. I have seen ads at the U for pathology MTs from time to time, which would be a good job for someone with that background.

This is off the subject, but wasn't that parade amazing? I live in WA but not near Seattle. I was at work - we watched for a while on our lunch break. 700K people were there to welcome them home.

I was offered a job a few years back at Seattle Children's just as they were making the switch to VR. That was one reason I declined the job. I figured once the system was in place there wouldn't be as much work to go around and they would have to let some MTs go. Sad to hear it sounds like I was right. Sounded like a great place to work, but I was looking for a stable long-term job at the time. As it is, it worked out as I was offered another job at the same time that worked out great.

I've heard that in Washington State you have to pay a tax called "business and occupation taxes". Is this true? If so what does it cost? Looking at moving to Washington State and trying to figure out all the taxes beforehand (if there would be a benefit business wise to move out of Oregon). Here in OR I pay a business tax of $50/year. Since all our complaints seem to fall on deaf ears and our jobs are ultimately at stake, by way of another example, 200 MTs at University of Utah Hospital just their jobs to a company that outsources. Can anyone tell me if Precyse still has Precyse University for training. I went to work for them a few years ago and quit because I was only doing 1-2 hours a day for a couple weeks going through the University and waiting for things to be approved in order to move on and was not making any money, got fed up and quit. Occasionally when I'm doing an ASR report and insert a QA marker the yellow cursor marker will go away and the cursor goes to the end of the report. Then I have to scroll back through the report to find my place and if I lift my foot off the foot pedal it happens again. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's irritating on a really long report.
