CMT Review Guide versus exam question - sm

Posted: Oct 09, 2010

I am going to sit for the CMT in December, and I've been going through the CMT Review Guide. What I am wondering is how indicative of the acutal test is it? Were the questions/dictation samples easier or harder than the actual test?

I feel like I have a good handle on the material in the Review Guide, but I don't want to be blindsided in December and totally embarrass myself.

TIA!

And yes, I am not a big fan of AHDI, but I do get a pay incentive for this, so that makes it worth my time.

I got a pay raise as well and went for it, and am glad I did, although I am not a fan of AHDI either.

It has been 2 years since I took it, but I did feel well prepared by the exam guide. They were representative overall of the test. Just be careful where you actually transcribe dictation to take your time and check carefully, as I was told 1 error here could count the whole thing wrong. I was very nervous but passed by a good margin, even though I didn't think I would! So get a good night's sleep, and good luck!

Thank you! Makes me feel a little more confident. - nm.

I did not find the CMT to be all that indicative of what was on the test. The Medical Transcription Workbook was actually somewhat more helpful. Also be sure and read the BOS cover to cover. If you'd like, E-mail me and I'll tell you what I know. Do it fast, though, before I totally forget. Tests vary, but know what Ewing sarcoma is, ergotamine, Christmas disease, the main hemophilia factor, and study those darn dental terms--odontogenic. Anyway, good luck. Oh, and know what agency enforces HIPAA violations. It sounded made up to me Dept of Health and Human Services Civil Rights office or some such thing. I ended up with close to 88 and 80 on the 2 parts. The questions are totally random, though, even if you have been dong this for years. Had never heard of the surgical instrument on the very 1st question and I've done acute care in at least 10 hospitals that I can recall right for the moment. Good luck!!!!

That is **CMT guide** to be all that helpful - New CMT

Congrats on passing!! It has been 2 years so I have forgotten, but your post reminds me...yes that darn Christmas disease question was on mine also and in researching, it is a rather rare disease, why include this?? I also remember a question where I had trouble remembering the difference between volvulus and intussusception. I have looked it up and will not forget now LOL! And I did have that question about the agency that oversees HIPAA as well.

Congrats on passing! - sm

Thanks for the info. I've been going through the review put out by my company as well as the Review Guide (they are pretty much the same) and doing some supplemental research on things I feel weak in. YouTube has become my new learning buddy. :)

I am scheduled to take it in December, which feels like I have plenty of time, but when I think about it, I start to get nervous about not reviewing enough and failing miserably.

Where do you get the review guide? - Taking test in 3 weeks

I completed the online prep course through AHDI (I know) and was blown away by how little I knew after 8 years. By the end of the course, I knew that material pretty well, BUT my fear is that it will be a whole new group of questions that I do know know. Getting real nervous here.

You can get it on Amazon or half.com used or from the AHDI web site. Good luck!

You only need 60%, and I'm sure you'll do fine! And thanks for the congrats everyone. It is a relief to pass. I only did it for the raise my company offers.

I knew WHAT it was, but not where, which was a bear.
That one I think I've got down! That's where YouTube came in handy, lots of videos to ceme - in the brain rather than just pictures! nm

Coding Exam Review Guides
Jun 07, 2010

I'm planning to take either the CCS or the CPC when I finish my coding program (probably in 5-6 months).  I've been thinking about getting one of the exam review guides (of which there seem to be lots of different ones) but they are pretty expensive, especially the current year.  I've seen some on Ebay and Amazon that are for previous years and they are usually a little less expensive.  I know some codes do change from year to year but I really wonder if the exam gu ...

Anybody Else Get The New Style Guide?
Nov 02, 2011

Apparently this one is to be followed along with the BOS2, DQS Standards and Guildelines, and the CP.  I just don't understand why we can't use just one.  Most of the things in it are the same, but others are the opposite of what I've been taught and what the BOS2 says (for example, it is now okay to start a sentence with a number).  They at least explained what qualified verbatim is. ...

RMT Study Guide - Mistakes In Answer Key
Jan 26, 2013

Hello, I am a fresh graduate from MTEC . I am currently preparing for AHDI's RMT exam. I bought the study bundle which consists of the RMT exam guide and an audio CD. Al in all, I have learned a great deal from the study guide... but... yes, there's always a BUT... While reviewing the entire RMT exam guide, I noticed some blatant mistakes as well as unclear questions. One example is a mixup between "affect" vs. "effect". The RMT study guide's answer key states that "effect" is a ...
