ACKNOWLEDGE RESUME SUBMISSIONS - OldTimer

Posted: Oct 26, 2010

Does anyone ever get an acknowldegment when they send a resume for a job posting?  I have yet to receive one.  I am talking about the companies, of course, who do not ask me to test or have no interest in me as a potential employee.  The ones who do, contact me and I test and interview and blah blah blah.  I have always thought it was common business practice and just plain courteous to send a letter, heck, make it a form letter, I don't care saying, sorry we are not interested or, sorry the position has been filled.  How long could that take?  Five minutes?  No one is too busy for that....

No I haven't but it could take quite a bit of time for - many resumes. nm

Not necessarily. An automatic reply on receipt is possible - with a lot of email already.

All they would have to do is set up a message to be returned with each e-mail received. We all get the "I'm on vacation, blah, blah, blah" e-mail when sending to someone out of the office. Why not set something up to filter resume emails with an automatic reply?

I actually sent in a resume last night and received an automated notice of receipt. I think the companies that have this set up are the ones you hear from.

Those who have to actually physically reply don't usually reply.

When I was fresh out of Andrews, I applied all over the place. Very few companies acknowledged with any type of reply.

One company located in Oklahoma City, however, did reply with a very lengthy email. While I couldn't be considered for the job because of the "no experience" trap, the recruiter kindly offered me great encouragement and even suggested quite a few ways in which I could gain the experience.

I must say that I was very impressed with that company. I figured it this way--if that was anywhere close to the way they treated their employees, it had to be a pretty good company to work for because of the way they treated this "newbie" who didn't stand a chance of even testing for them. I appreciated that recruiter's time and effort and penned an email thanking her for that gesture.

Sadly, though, most of the companies do not even acknowledge receipt of the resume. So, even if you only get an automated email, that's at least comforting to know that your resume did not end up in the cyberspace bit bucket.

That was above and beyond the call of duty. I hope you found a good job. I was fortunate when I first started out to get a job in a Naval hospital and was mentored by several seasoned MTs who had tons of patience and experience. That was back in the day when we all worked in house and were able to ask questions in person or have someone take a quick listen to a puzzling word or phrase. I still thank God for that experience. Anyway, again, I hope you have found a good company... I am still looking!

A few weeks later, I did find a good job with a great MTSO--acute care right out of Andrews. That was a little over two years or so ago. I'd have to say that the first year was definitely horrible--but I figured it probably would be. I am doing quite well now, and I will be there probably until I'm in my late 80s or so, another 30 years at least. Then, I'll look for a different career, probably involving greenhouses.

Ironically, I still don't have enough experience for the Oklahoma City MTSO.

I was offered a job at Webmedx back in January, but I turned that down because it was just clinic work, and it didn't fit in with my acute care goals. From what I've been reading elsewhere on this board, it sounds like I made a very good decision on turning them down.

I wish you good success in finding a good company. They are out there. I'm lucky that I found one for my first ever (and probably last) MTSO to work for.

Best of luck to you!

Hello: I am a resume' writer and a medical transcriptionist and have been since 1997. No company is required to acknowledge your resume'. In fact, if you're lucky enough to get it read, the reader (I'm told by executives) takes 5-15 seconds to read your information. If interested, they will take the next step in contacting you. If not, your documents will be discarded and then on to the next one. Horror story for sure, but that's how it works these days. Reason: There's no old timers left that know how to read a resume' and are kind enough to respond one way or another. These are the stories I hear everyday from execs, HR people and head hunters.

Thanks for the tip....I guess that means brevity is best? nm - Yochana

QA Submissions
May 20, 2010

I need clarification please.  What is a QA submission?  Is that the same as leaving a "qa blank" in the report?  The reason I ask is that we were told that a certain percentage of QA submissions would result in a paycut, correct?  I NEVER submit to QA, yet my monthly detail would never reflect that.  my detail shows NUMEROUS submissions, putting me in the paycut range! I have yet to hear a response from CCM.  (surprise...)  If anyone can enlighten me, I' ...

I'm looking to get out of my job in a bad way and my resume was less than pretty. I ran across this site and it was awesome.  It's free to update your resume but charges to print or email, copy, etc.  But for a cover letter and resume was only $2.95 but will auto-renew at $34 if you don't cancel within 2 weeks.  But I did the trial period and got an awesome resume and fantastic cover letter. It's easy to use and fun. Hope this helps a little bit.  http:// ...

Question Regarding Resume
Nov 19, 2009

I have a question and maybe someone out there knows the answer.  I have a resume which I created on Word.  I would generally send it as an attachment to an e-mail; however, I'm finding that recruiters for some reason are requesting the resume be pasted into the e.mail.  If I do that, I lose my formatting on the resume and the text gets all messed up. Does anyone know of a solution?  I feel really dumb! Thanks!   ...
