TT and low work - MTer

[ In Reply To ..]
You will NEVER make the same editing VR as doing straight transcription. Why do you think all these companies are going to VR? TO PAD THEIR POCKETBOOKS.

You might as well give up on it if that is your only source of income. You will go broke, especially with the overhire that TT continues to do to keep their TAT up-to-the-minute. During my time with TT, I felt that they truly do not care if you have consistent work or not -- it is their BONUSES and their PAYCHECKS that they are looking out for. VR definitely benefits the MTSO, or they would not have turned exclusively to that method -- cutting MT's pay in half all the while. SHAME, SHAME

According to your calculations, if that is true with - my pay cut in half with

[ In Reply To ..]
VR, I should be making $1500.00 per week with straight. I wonder how many here are making that with straight.
yes, yes, we're all lying here...sigh - crikey

And you VR lovers accuse the rest of us of incompetence - Frank Hemoptysis
[ In Reply To ..]
Because we supposedly 'can't do' VR. What a crock. I suspect that there are maybe 1 in 1000 MTs who do better on VR than on straight typing. Maybe you are one of them. Good for you. You win...whatever.

The rest of us know what a ripoff VR is and especially at TT. That VR is total GARBAGE and they are paying us now half our rate to correct it.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain...
Your word incompetence, mine would be - OMG

wrong platform.
Frank, are you the same Frank as in - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
Frank Abscess and Frank Purulence who posts so much against VR on the other board? Names are so similar, makes you think hmmmmmmmmm.
I was being sarcastic; VR's ruined my paychecks - crikey
[ In Reply To ..]
For the life of me, I will never understand what the point is of people posting on here saying more or less, "Well of COURSE it's cut your salary; what did you expect?" etc. I for one expected to make a living--maybe not to get rich, but to make a living. This isn't a hobby for most of us; it's been a career, till now. I'm still trying, with the VR, etc. It just seems like a ploy for companies to eventually move overseas, because with the exception of people who appear to do transcription solely for fun, not for any kind of monetary reward, it's no longer a career option for most in this country.
THIS is why we who are proficient at VR are so reluctant to share tips - RubySoho
[ In Reply To ..]
I remember at least 6 months ago on the MQ board, several of us were engaging in a discussion about VR and trying to help the MTs struggling with it tips and hints, and bless their hearts, they were SO appreciative. Then, of course, along came the hate-spewing gagglers, accusing us of lying, of being MQ suits (LOL, I don't even work for the Q, I just wanted to try to help if I could), and everything else. TOTALLY derailed a very productive conversation and, dammit, those woman WELCOMED our suggestions and had tons of questions and we were giving them short-cuts, etc.

I love MTStars but there's a band of negative posters on this forum that just cannot fathm ANYONE being happy with their employer or proficient at theirjob.

I find it so disheartening when people want to learn, but noseybodies derail a productive thread ever chance they get.
So, you make $15/hour on a 40-hour week .. (assuming $750/40) - LTMT
[ In Reply To ..]
That's only $15 an hour then -- I made that back in 1992. I currently make $27/hour straight typing, and I know I wouldn't make $54/hour with VR. I am glad you are happy with it, but my experience was that I could have typed the report much faster myself than slogging through corrections.
OOPS .. sorry .. math skills are lacking .. would be $19-something/hour. my bad :( sm - LTMT
[ In Reply To ..]
Still ... I just cannot embrace VR with any love, knowing I can still make more straight typing. Now iF they were going to implement it as a helpful tool, such as with the advent of PCs, and NOT cut our pay, heck, I'd be right there with you, singing the praises. After 35-some years, my old hands could use a break. :-)
No, I am not working full time- only part time - pay cut in half

By the end of the week, everyone determined to make at least minimum wage is online trying to reach the quota.

I just started with them - Old and Tired MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I am not that fast on VR. I can type circles around it when I have a very rare straight job, but I plod along on the VR. I have had to work extra hours to make my quota and I was told I am supposed to make so many lines per hour. I have 30 years of experience doing straight MT and less than one year doing VR. No matter how hard I try, it takes me a lot longer to make corrections than if I just typed the report myself. I have the feeling that if I can't speed up, I will be gone after the 90 days probation. I hate VR. It has ruined the profession. Of course, the MTSOs LOVE it because they can get away with paying us Indian wages. I get very depressed as I always thought I could do this job until I dropped dead at the keyboard but with VR, I don't think so any more.

Not MTSO and I love it - sm - VR person

[ In Reply To ..]
It all has to do with the platform you use. VR can be money maker but not if you spend the entire day doing corrections. Not suit, no vendor, no MTSO, MT like others here.

Is all Escription equal at all MTSO's? If I can't make money on Escrip at - TT, can I do it on Escrip at another MTSO?

I do not have that answer - VR person
[ In Reply To ..]
Have heard the more people you have on changing things, say one types Doppler and the next types doppler it takes longer for the system to learn. I am not expert on whether this is truth or not and have not worked for lot of companies. Maybe someone else who has used that particular platform at more than one company can tell you.
It seems to me it is a combination of platform and company. - Your tips have been helpful. Thank you. nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm

I hate VR too. If you type fast, it is not a moneymaker. sm - LTMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I am lucky enough to be able to transcribe at a relatively fast rate, 300 lph to even 400 lph if it is the right account/right dictator, and I HATE sitting and making corrections, plodding through it all, when I could have typed it much faster myself. If they paid me the same wage for VR as straight typing, fine, but this is just another way for them to grind away at our wages. They did not cut our wages with other advancements such as going to PCs and all that, so instead of this being tool which could have perhaps saved our hands and made life a bit easier, they have used it to drive us even further into poverty. Luckily, the 2 companies I work for either don't have VR or do not make me use it .. hallelujah!

Good luck to you. I have been doing this for over 35 years, so I am right there with you. I made more in the 80s than I do now .. pitiful.

Ditto. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
If it's a good dictator, not so much, but with the ESLs or the "uh, um" ones, the computer comes up with so much wrong BS that you have to go back and correct that it would take less time to just have typed the whole thing yourself. But of course there will now be a million comments about how great it is and how sucky we must just be at it.

It was great when it was ExSpeech. No problem there - Fried

[ In Reply To ..]
I was getting my daily lines with no problem. Lots of work, too.

With Escription, lots of problems with the program. Lots of corrections, expanders aren't compatible, and always running out of work. Can't work on Express Editor because of problems with the program, too. Tech support at Dictaphone didn't know what to do, either. I think if they (Dictaphone) want to force these programs on you, then they should at least have someone who knows it inside out.

Not working for me and so disappointed. I'll soon be demoted to PT.

I'm looking, although I love working for TT.

Every week a new adventure in low work and a new creative excuse from mgmt. - Frank Hemoptysis

[ In Reply To ..]
VR is the last straw I suspect in TT's chapter. I don't see them existing much longer with the quality of the finished records.

Though I suppose the writing was on the wall when they sued an employee for posting the truth here.

I was hired on an account using the eScription platform - RubySoho

[ In Reply To ..]
And I LOVE my account and the platform.

(Preparing to be called a liar, a suit, a plant, etc...)

eScription is only as good as the MTs raining the system. Consistency is of utmost importance so that system can train properly and down the road can produce a nearly-clean document. Only a handful of MTs work on this particular account; this shows how savvy TT is about keeping the system well trained and thus allowing the MTs to make a decent living without spending all of their time on cleanup.

It took me a few paychecks to get back into the swing of eScription, I won't lie. But once I was up and running, I'm not clearning more than enough money to live comfortably without being chained to my desk 24/7 and NO, I do NOT work 12-14-16 hours a day to make this (the other thing we proficient at VR are always accused of).

I work my shift; in fact, I look forward to my shift, usualy produce an averge of 3000 editeed lines per day, and have not a single complaint about TT, my account, or my platform.

Give your platform (and yourself! time to learn. You[ll be glad you did.

Ruby, I am patting my foot because you are - correct in your statement

[ In Reply To ..]
Platform is everything and how many you have on training the system.

TT and different platforms **bull** - mtmt

[ In Reply To ..]
Let me inform you **excellent** VR editors that you are just merely working yourself out of a job. The more editors correct the errors, the VR machine will eventually recognize the words and you will have NO WORK AT ALL EVER.

You cheerleaders at TT on VR -- just wait until YOU have trained the speech machine and you will be OUT ON THE STREETS HOLDING A SIGN **LOOKING FOR WORK**

Most of the hoorah'ers at TT are either QA editors from the beginning of their employment with TT or are **assigned** the gravy dictators to edit.

Platform does not dictate my pay being cut in half -- If you wish your pay cut in half and eventually to NOTHING because the speech machine will be able to recognize your corrections each and every dictation, then go ahead and teach it. I value my skills and my self confidence to much to let a company cut my pay in half without FIRST cutting mgmt's and the so-called supes' pay !!!!!!!!!!!
OOPs -- typo -- TOO much - mtmt
[ In Reply To ..]
The others who are cheering for VR editing appear to be the supes, leads, etc. who pick out the reports that they WANT to do. Work is constantly *assigned** to the MT's. Reason????
I am not sweating being on the street - No TTer
[ In Reply To ..]
I merely answered the question of a person's pay being cut in half by VR and mine was not. I do not work for TT and never have so am not cheerleading for them or my company or my platform. Next.

I do not think that the VR system gets "trained" - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
by MTs simply correcting a mistake, this is too simple. This correction has to be "saved" somewhere in the VR system, like "add to the VR like when we enter autoCorrect expanders and we have to click "add," otherwise it is gone.
Therefore some VR softwares never improve.

But it is not the VR editors who can do this, I do not know who should do this.

Any thoughts about that?

Going on 2 years and escription platform still only 50% - mte

[ In Reply To ..]
accurate. Supervisor at local hospital tells me that she must edit the edited report.
I know the supv at the hospital where I get my work - from and there is no way
[ In Reply To ..]
she would sit and correct the escription we do. Never hear anything except us doing a good job. I have been using it a little longer than you but I think our hospital probably would have tossed it if not working properly. What does she say about having to do that extra work?
I don't know why they think VR is faster - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
I, too, could type the whole report much faster myself rather than slogging through all the corrections. Also, I have to set the speed much slower as if it was on 100%, it goes so fast that the dictators all sound like Donald Duck. They say it is supposed to "improve your productivity", but it sure doesn't do that for me. I could type the whole report in much less time than it takes me to stop at every other word to make the corrections. I still say the motive behind it all is to be able to pay us Indian wages because we "don't have to type the report". Yeah, right----.
I posted and have no idea where the post went but - I do not make Indian wages at all
[ In Reply To ..]
I cannot type 600+ lph like I did in the first hour I worked today doing voice. I was not asked if I wanted to go on voice, was working inhouse and we had the choice inhouse job, voice or no job. I decided on going on voice and glad I did. Once there I really dislike regular reports now. It all has to do with the platform you work on.
I consider 4 1.2 cents a line Indian wages - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
When they cut the pay from 8 1/2 cents a line to 4 1/2 cents due to VR, I call it Indian wages. It is just a ploy to cut our wages.
As Wendy Williams says, it is what it is - VR
[ In Reply To ..]
You either learn and conquer or you find something else in this lifetime, I guess.
If I were younger, I would go to school to learn something else - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
However, since I am on the down side of 65, by the time I got through school, nobody would hire me because I was too old. I definitely would do it if I were younger as this so-called "profession" is dying a slow death. I can remember the good hourly salary I made in house with a good vacation and benefits package, lot of perks, etc. Those days are long gone. My pay was cut in half the minute they started with "production only" because we no longer are paid to research terms, new drugs, etc., only for the keystrokes we make. If I was 20 years younger, I would find another profession in a heartbeat. I always thought I would be able to do this job no matter how old I was and until I dropped dead at the keyboard and be able to pay my bills, but with the advent of VR, I don't think so any more.
Say down side of 65? See inside - VR
[ In Reply To ..]
On other side of 65 myself and I was told VR at over 55 and certainly was not going to seek another kind of work. So far today I am averaging $22 per hour and only 2 hours to go. I donĂ¢€™t think of VR as 4 cents a line, rather sit myself up to make XX amount a day. Oh, I know others say how much they can make straight and that is ok with me. I am fine with working less than 40 hrs per week now and with what I make, tired of straight.
