Pitiful Webmedx community page announcement - SMH

Posted: Sep 01, 2010

What a bunch of nonsense.  They wait until well into their smoke and mirrors BS to say that they lost two accounts and had to let people go. Guaranteed they knew the accounts were gone a while ago--seen this with them before, and the decent thing would have been to warn people--but there seems to be no decency here any longer in how management conducts itself.  Question:   What is with all the new hires this summer who have been scrolling on the community page?  They probably are trying to get rid of long term employees who are costing them more than the poor unsuspecting souls they have recently hired to deal with their ISR/M Modal crap.  It is no wonder that their quality has taken a downturn.  It is incredible how ISR puts random punctuation in a document;  inexplicably adds in things that dictators do not say and totally omits the things they do say.  I wish the dictators could see this absolute mess before we edit the hell out of it in our reduced pay, work twice as hard capacity. They gave a hospital with their Freedom of Speech Founders Award which touts the company's own front end speech recognition and self-edit technology which supposedly will save 60% on transcription costs for the facilities yet with their other face they tell us how much they still need us.  Greedy and scandalous.  Good luck to all who have lost their jobs today and will in the future.

If MTSOs keep up with the unethical way they do - business, inhouse may just make a comeback. nm

I think we are already there! I just - In house here I come

[ In Reply To ..]
accepted an in-house position today after being home the last 20 years. And I am thrilled (nervous but thrilled). I get hospital paid benefits, very generous, as well as steady good wage per hour (in the teens) as well as extra speech rec incentive based on productivity, and there is overtime available, too. Only have to work one weekend out of every 3. What will I do with myself the other 2 weekends?!?

Seriously, it is about time we all get sick of the way we are treated and march back into the hospitals and show them how professional and hard working we are. Maybe we can turn this horrid treatment around that we have been receiving from the outsourcing companies who feel we are just a dime a dozen and work in environments where MT turnover and account turnover are so high that we really do not matter to anyone.

It was made very clear to me during the offer from the hospital that they are committed to having a professional in-house staff and they welcomed my experience. I think it is becoming more and more of an option again, as many of the hospitals are as sick of the outsourced world as we are. They, too, realize what a mess it is right now and their needs are not being met anymore by outside services either in terms of quality, timeliness, and it does not save them money anymore, either.

Think about it seriously if there is such an option in your area and you can handle it with your home responsibilities.

Good for you! Im looking for something similar. - I"d work either inhouse or at home, it - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
doesn't really matter at this point, just as long as I get benefits, hourly pay, and a little respect.

Don't forget, in-house lay-offs are typically escorted - Poppy
[ In Reply To ..]
off the premises by a security guard. If they were allowed in at all. In all industries. But, hey, however you define respect.

It is not unethical - hurtful yes

[ In Reply To ..]
I'd venture to guess 95% of companies that lay-off don't give a heads-up and don't do it with warm fuzzies.

It stinks big time to lose your job, especially when you don't have a clue it's coming. But WMX did nothing unethical in how they did it. Many places, you're escorted off property after having someone stand over you to clean off your desk and make sure you don't disrupt things or steal anything.

Transcription is changing and it's now changing FAST after decades of dire warnings. In a few years, we'll see what's left but until then, I think your experience (the collective WMX crew) will be more the norm than the exception.

I hope those displaced workers are able to quickly find new options, but as much as it hurts, laying off isn't unethical, not even doing it via email.

Good sense is so refreshing after too much nonsense. NM - :)

Pretty sucky code of ethics then! - What is ethical about hiding and not answer the ph

[ In Reply To ..]
What was ethical about being a chicken and hiding behind an e-mail? Then not answering the phone when those devastated by the news tried to reach someone, anyone, who could help them understand.

If this is the "ethics" of today, I pray for the world!
What did you need to understand - No point in answering the phone
[ In Reply To ..]
There's not a lot of gray area in - you've been terminated.

Answering the phone would have resulted in an EMOTIONAL exchange that frankly, just isn't on the business agenda. It's business. Period. Suck? Yes.

But surely no one was trying to call to say- Hey thanks for the memories, right?

wow - terminatedwebbie
[ In Reply To ..]
Wow, let's all hope you never get terminated, you would would have to keep your rah rah attitude and your smile on while you are furious that it happened to you. Even an explanation in the e-mail, i.e, we lost your account, would have helped ease the sting of being told you were finished. Hopefully it never happens to you. To all the well wishers on here, thank you for the support, for the poster above, thanks for nothing. On second thought, I almost hope it does happen to you in the near future and then see if you still feel the same way.
Obviously a SUIT in not-so-successful disguise. - Management people DISGUST me.

What a sellout they are.
Actually I'm sure a lot of supervisors really - anon.
[ In Reply To ..]
wish they could answer calls from people they worked with, even if conversation had to be conducted within careful guidelines. It's all very regrettable.
How about a little sympathy/empathy, soothing? - That is what is WRONG with Webmedx!
[ In Reply To ..]
What a ridiculous, roboton statement. Obviously one of the cold fish managers.
Heaven forbid an explanation would be owed - or an answer to why me
[ In Reply To ..]
If they answered the phone I can hear the questions now - "Why ME? I've always been flexible, always worked OT, never called in sick, jumped on whenever you called me, quality score is top notch....why couldn't you let me work my secondaries? Why couldn't you offer me different hours, shifts, accounts instead of the ax?"

And what could the STM say? "We've decided to replace you with newcomers. You know to much, make too much, rolled with all the punches and are just too loyal. We don't want loyalty, we want cheap newbies who don't know how things used to be. The only thing you did wrong is stay here and do the right thing - no good deed goes unpunished."
The point is they did not have the CAJONES to call - Chicken s**t and cowardly.
[ In Reply To ..]
Nuff said. Go aruge with yourself.

What is ethical about laying off senority - and keeping noobs?

[ In Reply To ..]
You want to talk traditional layoffs? Last in, first out. Certainly didn't happen here. These layoffs weren't based on seniority, quality, keeping the best and losing the worst, etc. It was just, oh, you're primary's gone, YOU are gone. Just a random chunk of their workforce kicked to the curb. The scary thing is, they might do the same to any one of us tomorrow.
Let's be realistic. Unless you are mangement... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
...you have NO idea how layoffs were orchestrated and why decisions were made. You do not know if layoffs were based on seniority, quality, or if they laid off long-standing employees in favor of newbies.

This is a difficult situation at best, but the Webmedx threads have devolved into people posting things as the gospel truth, when in fact, it is speculation and second-guessing.
People that have been laid off is where I got info - reading these posts
[ In Reply To ..]
NO idea? You must not have read anything but your own postings. We have people stating they were laid off despite years of service, high quality scores, etc. This is not speculation. These are statements made by posters on this board who have been laid off. If you want to dispute what they say is "gospel truth", right back atcha - SUIT.
Nonsense! No-nothings have swept in from anywhere - just to act out and dump.

Freedom of choice - you believe corporate propaganda - I believe this board
[ In Reply To ..]
So what are you saying? Only "a few" people got laid off? That anyone claiming they had a good work ethic and worked a ton of OT to help out with the account before they got the ax is a liar because CORPORATE didn't announce it directly into your ears? What a sheep!

I'm very sorry for everyone who was laid off but it appears seniority was NOT a factor in the final decisions from what I've gathered from the posters who were affected.
c'mon, don't you think.... - remarkable my butt
[ In Reply To ..]
....that in order to make it look not as obvious that they were getting rid of people with seniority, that they would sprinkle in a few newbies as well who got the ax? C'mon! I think they're pretty disgusting for what they did, however, I don't think they're stupid.
If Webmedx would be honest there would be no need for - Speculation and second-guessing.
[ In Reply To ..]
REMARKABLY easy concept, no?
I believe you're wrong.... - remarkable my butt
[ In Reply To ..]
.....I believe in order to save money, they got rid of more people with seniority and sprinkled a couple of newbies in there so it wouldn't look as obvious and kept mostly all newbies since they could get away with paying them less.

We should do a poll on here and see how many people had seniority and how many were newbies. Bet you'd find most who were given the ax were senior people, myself included.

So much for loyalty. That and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee.

My brother, SIL and another SIL all lost their jobs in the past year... - abcMT

[ In Reply To ..]
They were corporate jobs - at 3 different companies. They received no warning. I would venture an educated guess that the company's lawyers advise the layoffs to be conducted in that manner. They too were not able to call their supervisors afterwards. Times are a-changing everyone. We're not in Mayberry anymore.

There should be a steep PRICE TO PAY for - companies that treat workers like garbge.

[ In Reply To ..]
And I think it's up to US to make sure they pay it.
Ummm, aren't they paying with a lost acct? - stillmtin
[ In Reply To ..]
Out of that account came not only your salaries but parts of salaries for support staff as well as other expenses. It's not like that woke up one morning and asked themselves, "How might we best screw up the lives of our MTs?" I mean seriously, you guys need to get a grip.

Go knock on 5 of your neighbors doors and ask if their jobs have been adversely affected in the last year and I bet at least 3 of them say yes.

It's BUSINESS. It's not PERSONAL. Your reactions are personal. Your panic is personal. (And understandable). But the company isn't sitting back rubbing their hands in glee.
Then maybe they should pay MORE. Losing an - account is chump change to the Pigs.
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe it should be next to impossible for such companies to gain further new accounts, or further new MTs.
That is their own fault. We are not responsible for their poor management decisions. - Yes, it does happen!
[ In Reply To ..]
You're blaming the MTs because YOUR business decisions backfired? What voice did the MTs ever have. They could have definitely given you some good advice, but you in your arrogant wisdom thought you knew better. Well, guess what YOUR poor management lost St. Rose. Chew on that for a while!!

We can hope. - lovnlife

Your statement makes NO sense at all. SM - snowbird

[ In Reply To ..]
Why would you think that working *in-house* isn't exactly the same thing as working at home for an MTSO???

They are BOTH businesses. They are BOTH motivated by bottom-line profits. Your MT job isn't any more secure if you go back in-house. You're still working FOR a business -- duh!

The BIG mistake in either case is to think that you, YOU PERSONALLY, actually matter to your employer. You don't.

If you want some sort of job security, and some sort of respect, get your own MT accounts and cut out the middle man called Big Business MTSO.

Im talking about the work going back to the hospitals - and out of the hands of MT-pimps.

[ In Reply To ..]
.
..and I'M saying, What's the diff btwn a Hospital and an MTSO? - snowbird
[ In Reply To ..]
In both situations, YOU have no control over your workload, your work hours, or whether or not you're even employed from one day to the next.

The only way to have that control is to work for YOURSELF. ;-)
In house you can network - meet people and docs
[ In Reply To ..]
Make friends, business contacts, etc. I knew one girl who got fired (rightfully so) for refusing to come back to work after Katrina (hello - we ALL went through Katrina and her situation was no worse than most). But she was pals with the doctors, got their sympathy and ended up working across the street in their private billing office, thumbing her nose at the hospital employees.

Point is, lots more opportunities to be found networking where they know your face than anonymously sitting at home.
If you're not using at least a little bit of your time posting on this board... SM - snowbird
[ In Reply To ..]
...making friends, making business contacts, etc, U R NOT DOIN' IT RITE.

This, too, is *networking* even though you think you're doing it anonymously sitting at home. ;-)

You keep missing my point: An in-house hospital/clinic job is no more secure than working online for an MTSO. Key word there is "FOR" -- working FOR a fill-in-the-blank. Go independent, find your own clients, and YOU set all of the rules. What's so hard to understand about that?

Hospitals are employers. They pay their workers. - MTSOs are pimps who keep MT"s money for themselves
[ In Reply To ..]
That's the difference.
You think no hospital MTs have ever been laid off? SM - snowbird
[ In Reply To ..]
Think again.

Or ask around.
Yes, hospitals do lay off MTs - former Transcend MT
[ In Reply To ..]
This has happened to me twice in the last 15 years. There were whispers that they were going to lay off all of the MTs in the medical records department, and then 2 days before we were actually laid off we got notice of what was going to happen. We had 2 days to adjust to this!!!! Some of the girls had been with the department for over 15 years. They also told us we would be hired by a company that was taking over the transcription for the hospital, and we would all have a chance...that was not true at all. A small portion of the MTs were actually hired and to top it all off they asked some of the "favorite MTs" who they did and did not like in the department, and those that had anything negative said about them were not hired. This happened 1 more time at another hospital and again the same scenario. I went on to work at home, and the rest, as they say, was history. So, this does happen in the hospital setting too.
The big difference is: If you get laid off from a hosp., - then the chances are you were - sm

making enough money there to at least have a little bit in savings to help you get by til that next job comes along. Working for nano-cents per line at an MTSO, we usually live paycheck-to-paycheck. BARELY. There's never any kind of savings to fall back on.

Yeah, and it wasn't just a FEW. Many. sm - MT

Just when I think I've heard everybody, I hear another name.

The company disgusts me. The way they did this was very poor. These people weren't fired, but laid off. So why couldn't they have been given any notice at all if their work was substantial. Why no severance of something, anything? I'm sure having even a week's worth of pay would be worth something. They got absolutely nothing, right?

To those who were laid off, I am so incredibly sorry. I wish I had a company or something in which to employ every one of you awesomely skilled and talented men and women.

What's your count so far, SM? I noticed about...5 or 6? on - Anon
