Keystrokes benefits - mrsimon

Posted: Mar 12, 2012

Can anyone provide me with info about the benefits at KS?  I know it is not actually health insurance but a "mini medical" - how about holiday pay, etc?  Thanks in advance.

Using Keystrokes and benefits in the same sentance is pretty funny!

KS benefits, not too bad except the health insurance. sm - KSMT

We get paid life insurance, excellent dental and vision, a medical plan that works well if you are healthy, direct deposit, 401k, 1.5x pay for holidays that we work, PTO and bereavement pay. I have been here 5 years, so I get 2 weeks PTO. At 7 years, I will get 3 weeks.

Biggest benefit of all = a paycheck that is big enough to support my family that has gone up not down.

Medical is a problem - just me

IF you get sick, need emergency surgery, anything like that, forget it. You will go bankrupt.

And no matter how healthy you are, accidents happen.

Expect a fight when you need to use your benefits too. - Payowndisabilty

They don't even pay for any disability- all on MTs back, but trying to get it when you need it is a hassle, as they fight you on getting the information AND filling our their part of paperwork.

Anything that has to do with money out of their pockets is a fight. By far the worst benefits division I've ever come across. They brag on what they offer but stop you at every turn accrue or use them.
Are you talking about KS's own disability? - KS MT3
[ In Reply To ..]
At least with AFLAC it is portable and you take it with you.

Regarding PTO - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
You only get PTO if you are able to get your required minimum of lines/reports for a 3 month period and then you get it in the next pay period, unless you work in the office or are management.

what benefits? - another KS MT

Keystrokes is a huge disappointment. Over a year with them and I have not earned one single PTO hour, not one! I pay money for the horrible "health" insurance, although I will say that the vision and dental are at least decent.
I must be on one of the worst accounts there as I am not even making minimum wage at this point. I know you all say if you don't like it then leave but it's not that easy. I'm a single mom and have to work. I did just get a part-time position with another company so time will tell what happens with it. I'm not going to get my hopes up tho cuz we all know that good companies just don't exist, and Keystrokes is definitely one of the worst!
If you are not doing well there, it is your own fault. sm - RealityCheck

I am sure I will be bashed and accused of being a suit, but I am neither. The truth is that at Keystrokes, if you are a good MT and work your scheduled hours, you will do well. They are picky and want quality and weed those out who are either unreliable or do not meet the production and quality requirements. If you have an account that does not fit your needs or do not get enough work, they provide you with the contact information to get that fixed.

I am sick and tired of reading these kind of posts, not just about Keystrokes, but about pretty much every company out there. The reality is that technology has changed transcription yet again, as it has many times through the last 30 years of my career. I went from a typewriter with carbon paper, upgraded to a Selectric with correction to a DOS computer and floppy disks to a computer with internet and so on. Those who go with the changes and keep up with them will do well, those who refuse to will not.

Transcription is here to stay, and while there will not be as many MT's needed with the technology advances, the really good MT's will do well and the others will go away, just like with any changing industry.

That is the brutal truth but I am sure that I will now be blasted and my post probably removed. I am tired of seeing the whining and bashing on this forum. No company is safe. Truth be told, there are thousands of us working for the companies that are bashed, and we are doing well.

I hope you are not management (that must be the neither that you omitted on the first line) because you seem to be lacking in those skills.
Last post before my shift. I could never be management. I don't have the people skills. LOL - RealityCheck

There's a good reason that I work from home. I come across as a know-it-all or someone who doesn't respect others, but that is not true at all. It is just that when I am passionate about something, I come across wrong.

This really isn't even about Keystrokes. It's more about transcription in general and the negativity that permeates all the posts that I see.
good tension breaker...and respect your honesty. - I understand now. nm

Not everyone is good at everything, but for some reason, anyone thinks they can be an MT. I wish I could be a movie star, but I can't act. It doesn't mean that I should get to be in movies just because I want to or that I should complain when I don't get cast for a part.

The schools have done this industry a huge disservice.

The so-called shortage of MT's contributed to that.

I worked in QA for another large company for a few years and could not handle the poor grammar, terrible spelling, guesses, blanks that should be obvious and the attitude of many of the MT's working there. Now I realize that it is everywhere. The sense of entitlement is rampant here.

To those MT's who truly have been displaced or have been struggling, I am not directing this to you. I hope that you can look past the negative people here and find your dream job. The others have really ruined things for those of us that consider this a profession and not just a job. I am lucky that I am able to do what I love and make a good living at it, had the opportunity to be home with my children and now my grandchildren and do not have to sit in traffic every day.
It must be nice to be so superior to everyone else. - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
let me ask this of you, above poster.. if you work at KS, are you acute care or radiology? and are you paid by the line or by the job? I've said many times it's all has to do with the account you're on and how the pay is. if I was currently paid per line, I'd be fine. Every single MT I know that currently works for KS is struggling, every single one (being paid per report, radiology). I did hear that a friend of a friend is doing okay but she's getting paid per dictated minute. Again, it all depends on the account and how you're paid. If you think otherwise then you haven't been in my shoes, plain and simple. just like the old saying goes, walk a mile in my shoes.
I am radiology, paid by the report. Have you asked for something different? sm - RealityCheck
[ In Reply To ..]
If you don't get anywhere with your lead or the coordinator, then go above them. I am not a big fan of the radiology coordinator, but whenever I have had a problem, I have gone over her to KB and even to LT a few times. They really do work with you, and I hope you at least try. It's a lot easier than going from job to job.

I really do not mean to sound condescending, and if I do, I apologize. I am just saddened with what I see here about a company that treats me very well, and about just about every company out there.

Where has positive support gone? I miss the old days of a helpful forum and would like to get it back or find another that is. Not all rainbows and unicorns, just helpful and supportive.
Not the poster this is addressed to - but I tried and could not get - anywhere with them and changing accounts.
[ In Reply To ..]
it was one hard to staff because of the way it was so they were not budgin'.
So I did. See Jane wave buh-bye.
Reality Check - you're one of the lucky ones then - another KS MT

There has to be some good accounts, not mine tho. I started out on a decent one that was by the line but KS lost it. My acct is ridiculous... 60 rads and they do not know how to dictate or even how to use the machine; the amount of clipped words just amazes me! I've been in radiology a long time but KS 1 year and they don't care about me one single bit... management is horrendous at best. I'm looking but don't want to get into a worse situation so I have to be patient.

Totally 100% agree. The pay for MTs both hourly and production went overboard in the 80s and early 90s, now I believe is leveling off. I have almost 40 years experience and have a great paying no-ASR IC gig. Have to have 98% or better quality and do min of 5000 lines a week.

I totally agree with you. I listened to all the BS on here applied, changed my mind when they called, then decided to give it a shot. I was lucky that the HR person (you know who I mean), gave me another chance. Though I have been with them only about 2 months, so far everything is great. I had some problems with the account they hired me for as I had very little experience in that field (after 30 years)and they couldn't QA it, then had computer problems with it, bought a new computer and they gave me an account suitable to my experience (acute care, clinic, etc.). I have a great great team lead. Not up to the quota yet, but hopefully I'll get there. I don't need the bennies, so that's not an issue. If this doesn't work out (and I hope it will) I'm done. Too old to keep changing.

Okay, I may be dense, the rest of you may have figured this out long ago!  Many times I see comments here about people who cannot get enough work.  Well, at my company, if there is a low volume of work and you cannot meet your line count you are placed on part-time status and cannot regain full-time status until you have met your commitment for 90 days.  Yes, you lose your benefits....your health insurance, paid holidays, dental/vision, etc.  Well, heck, look at the money the ...
