Good grief!! Is there a trick to doing clinic work? Or am I just not cut out for it? sm - mta

Posted: Feb 08, 2010

In the last few months I have gone from acute care to clinic work and I cannot live off what I am making!!!  Help!!  These jobs are short, and getting in and out of them, finding docs names, addresses, dos, etc., are so time consuming, I am feel like I am going backwards!!!  HELP!!

it just sounds like you're doing more data entry and less production and not being - paid enough for your time. n/m

You'll get more productive as you memorize the doctors' names in the area your clinic is in, but until then I'd recommend making a list of local doctors and printing it out so you can look at it quickly as you are working and then putting their addresses in a macro or an expander so you don't have to look them up. I do this for a clinic I type for and it covers 99% of the addresses they request.

I was in the same boat. I quit after trying it out for a few months, - sm

not worth my time with all the data entry, and they were paying me pretty good. It still was not enough to cover the looking up schedules and verifying patients on schedules and if not in the system putting those patients into the system, not to mention the physicians that were not in the system that had to be entered in. In my opinion, if you actually want to make some money, you need to get out of clinic work. The best I think I did in a day was a 2100 or 2200 lines and that took me 10 hours to get. I could do that easily in acute care work in 7-8 hours. Not to mention the fact there is never enough work to even get that many lines on a daly basis, having to beg, borrow, and steal from anyone else who couldn't get their work done, which is a drag because now you have new account specs and whatever else that is new that will slow you down.

sounds like the one I tried for a few months ... Amphion account? - n/m

That's why we should charge by the gross line - to make up for the time we spend

looking stuff up. As it is, we only get paid by characters and, if we're lucky, spaces. They don't count the endless amount of time we spend for no pay.

Good Grief! It Is A Bad Habit
Jan 01, 2012

With all of the discussion about the pros and cons of sarcasm recently, it suddenly came to me that I really do have a sarcasm problem. I decided to watch a movie and put in a DVD. It came on with a message that it had been reformatted for my TV screen and I found myself talking back sarcastically TO MY OWN TELEVISION!  I said, "Oh, sure, right!"  Well that tells me that I have gotten into the habit of being sarcastic in every part of my life. When I made that sarcastic comment to my ...

EditScript Trick
Nov 12, 2014

This is new to me, so I apologize if its not new to you, but figured this was worth posting. I found out by chance a couple days ago that if you press the CNTL key and scroll up or down with the mouse that it increases/decreased the size of the text on the screen without affecting the final document as far as changing font size, etc.  I use ES 9 most of the time, so not sure if it works for ES 11 or other versions, but worth a try.  I work on a 17 inch monitor and the type was small a ...

Another Nifty Shorthand Trick
Nov 11, 2009

Elsewhere, someone just suggested that you can use it to pop up reminders to yourself on the screen. I've been hauling around a little green loose-leaf notebook since about 1976, with words and phrases I had/have trouble remembering. Many of the words in it have been made long-since obsolete because now we have spell-check. But there are still any number of things that it might be hard to remember all the time. For instance... I had to write down what the numbers after gravida and par ...

Trick On Fluency With Line Count
Apr 15, 2015

I discovered this recently and thought I would share. I always used to punch out to go to the bathroom or anytime I would get up so that my inactive time would not build. I figured out today if you upload a job and don't hit enter again to download the next one Fluency is in limbo. Meaning the inactive time is not being counted against you. SOOO if you need to go throw in that load or laundry or use the bathroom upload the job you are working on but don't download the next one. L ...

Clinic Going VR With EHR
May 10, 2011

I'm sorry if this topic has been discussed over and over - I'm just starting to research it a bit.  (I haven't completely been under a rock but I have been in my own happy little world with my job ... until now).  I'm an IC transcriptionist (working from home) for a local clinic of 15 MDs/PAs.   Three of them are using Dragon Speak  VR  with EHR.  A fourth one just started.  What I want to know is if there is a place for me when m ...

What Is The Best Way To Go After Your Own Little Clinic Account?
Nov 13, 2010

My company just lost a huge account.  Since then I have not made much money at all.  I am scraping to get by.  After 10 years in the medical transcription field I am fed up.  I have always worked on such great accounts for good money.  Now, I cannot find something that is even average pay.  I am going to be taking a medical coding course; however, I still need to provide for my three kids.  I want to go out and solicit doctors and try to secure my own account, ...

In-house Clinic Pay
Nov 16, 2010

I have an interview with a local eye clinic (there are six surgeons).  Just wondering what kind of salary to expect to be offered or ask for (!), having been paid as a remote MT/VR Editor by production for many years and haven't a clue about salaries in clinics any more.  It is not as an IC but as member of their staff, permanent, full-time, 40 hours a week. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.   ...

Nuance Took Over My Clinic
Dec 10, 2012

I just found out today when I had no work with my smaller company that Nuance took over all the work starting today.  I found out they knew about it 2 months ago and didn't tell us.  I am waiting on the contact information from the original clinic manager at the doctor's office so hopefully we can go with our work.  Has anyone else had this happen and if so how good are the chances of just going with Nuance.  At this point I just need the work.    Thank ...

Been Doing Clinic My Whole MT Career...
Jul 05, 2013

I've been doing clinic my whole six-year MT career. Now since there are not that many clinic transcription jobs anymore, I'd like to learn acute. But of course, all the acute ads say they want experience. I'm confident that I can pass some of the acute care job tests. Are some employers open to giving you an acute care job if you do well on the test, having no actual job experience in it? I went to a good school and am confident in my abilities. What has been your experience in th ...

No idea who that ad on the Job Seekers board is from (Tracy in Lousiana, but no company name).
