New MT learned old trick - sanba

Posted: Aug 26, 2010

After searching for an MT job for 3 months, I was blessed to get a job as a newbie.  Unfortunately, I have been transcribing for hours and hours 5 days a week and most likely will not get paid.  Saw some posts too late about the company not paying ICs.

I don't know how to work this blog thing. But that is who I was transcribing for. Has anyone else have problems with them?

Unfortunately there have been LOADS of MTs to get caught up (sm) - anon

with DIT. If you search DIT on this website you will see how many others are unpaid.

I wish you and the others the best and hopefully someone, somewhere will do something about this company!
Shouldn't you be able to press charges? - sm

I mean, as many people who have gotten ripped off by this company, it's no longer a "payroll error" or anything like that, it is an all in all SCAM. I wonder if contacting law enforcement would work?
IRS? chances are they aren't paying them either. get them to investigate in any way - you can. Or -- sm

Call the account.

I had a friend who was not being paid by a so-n-so and she threatened to call the account to find out who cuts the checks...was a check cut...etc.

it's fraud.

gained something valuable there. Can you print out positive e-mails, etc., at least, to use as evidence/reference in case a real one goes the way of a missing paycheck? By the way, just because some people aren't paid doesn't mean others aren't. I wouldn't post my employer's name publicly while I continued to expect them to repay my good faith with their own.

she is fine - a whole slew of gals posted their name as nonpayhers. n/m - I, for one, glad for the info.

Yes, but OP's still employed. Badmouthing - Anon

one's employer is not merely bad form, it's a really bad tactic. As is shooting oneself in the foot at the request of others.

If you are going to take a paycheck from someone, don't badmouth them. Have some class.

a close eye on everything. And MTSO is NOT my mom or my friend. MTSO doesnt care about my bills, etc. I am a number, however sweet and nice they sound in their emails. IF MTSO has not paid even one person, I KNOW that others will follow suit. This is a business that is mostly run by women and that makes a world of difference.

Employer's good faith?? Are you nuts? They have NOT - paid her. They have no good faith. nm

When they don't pay you, contact your client. Explain to them that this company has ripped off numerous people and you have not been paid. Maybe they won't pay them? Call the police also. These are con artists!

I Have Learned.
Sep 30, 2010

Hello: I have worked as an MT employed at the same hospital for 10 years. In the past 2 years, I have also started doing IC part-time. Being an IC is taking a step down. Never in a million years did I know they have to work twice as hard as an employee. I just pray for the ICs. As an employee, I make twice as much as an IC. IC: Platforms are slow. More problems with sound quality and several ESL doctors. Supervisor sometimes does not supply sample dictations and not helpful when ne ...

This Is What I Have Learned From This Board
Feb 02, 2012

Hey, I have been off and on following this board for a while, and I have to say thanks to you, I am on my way to what will be a new career.  But after today, I felt I had to share what happened to me while studying for a test tomorrow:  The $$ in this career does not matter, actually I don't even know where it starts or ends!  Anyway, at this point, what matters to me is that I have found my "place", I am happy with the prospect of either working for a hospital, but ultimatel ...

Learned Something New Today
Oct 10, 2013

I was told today one of our accounts "went global."  Took a minute for it to sink in what this meant (went to India).  I have a feeling we'll be seeing more and more of this.  There's no future for me in MT anymore, not when I'm making barely above minimum and they can get the work done cheaper than that.  ...

Learned My Lesson
Mar 02, 2015

I will NO LONGER be working OT.  Got audited on 2 jobs that were less  than 1 minute in length on an unfamiliar account and scored 99.5%.  Do they look for short jobs?  It seems like it to me.  That way, they can fail you.  Hard to stay motivated and focused when you get dinged for such petty things.  In no way did my mistake cause the patient any harm.  Honest to pete.  Have heard rumors that the auditors are off shore.  Really?  After I lo ...

I Just Learned Something New About 365 Email (sm)
May 18, 2015

I was trying to send an email to someone who worked for the previous company,  and I found that if you put in  just the first few letters of the person's name, and then hit contacts underneath, you can find all names who work for the company whose names begin with those letters.  Quite surprising. ...

I Learned A Lesson Recently....
Aug 23, 2013

I'm one of the first people to tell someone else to be careful of the bridges you burn when leaving one company for another.  It's advice that I have tried hard to live by and was working out fairly well until just recently. I have another job with another company now and loving it.  Leaving Nuance and finding out that there still are companies out there that give a hoot has made me feel good. Anyway....I didn't actually burn any bridges with my past employers but I wa ...

EditScript Trick
Nov 12, 2014

This is new to me, so I apologize if its not new to you, but figured this was worth posting. I found out by chance a couple days ago that if you press the CNTL key and scroll up or down with the mouse that it increases/decreased the size of the text on the screen without affecting the final document as far as changing font size, etc.  I use ES 9 most of the time, so not sure if it works for ES 11 or other versions, but worth a try.  I work on a 17 inch monitor and the type was small a ...

Another Nifty Shorthand Trick
Nov 11, 2009

Elsewhere, someone just suggested that you can use it to pop up reminders to yourself on the screen. I've been hauling around a little green loose-leaf notebook since about 1976, with words and phrases I had/have trouble remembering. Many of the words in it have been made long-since obsolete because now we have spell-check. But there are still any number of things that it might be hard to remember all the time. For instance... I had to write down what the numbers after gravida and par ...

Trick On Fluency With Line Count
Apr 15, 2015

I discovered this recently and thought I would share. I always used to punch out to go to the bathroom or anytime I would get up so that my inactive time would not build. I figured out today if you upload a job and don't hit enter again to download the next one Fluency is in limbo. Meaning the inactive time is not being counted against you. SOOO if you need to go throw in that load or laundry or use the bathroom upload the job you are working on but don't download the next one. L ...
