FutureNet interview -

Posted: Jun 02, 2010

Hi group!  I have a job interview with Rita at Futurenet tomorrow.  The reason I am looking is I am really tired of constantly running out of work because my company over hired and now we transcriptionists are just out of luck!  I am in my 4th year with my current job and suddenly can barely hit $100 a day.  This is really sad when there is no loyalty to their employees.  Now from what I have been reading Futurenet is the same???  I read from this group how they run out of work too and then I read an email from apparently a FutureNet supervisor that work load is heavy and get typing or lose your job?  What the heck, which is the real deal here?  I never know what to believe on these boards.  Any CURRENT info about this company is appreciated.  I sure don't want to leave a job I love because of lack of work to go to another with the same problem.  Also, I prefer to hear from transcriptionists with a work history too.  It seems there are lots of MTs with too much time to spare on this board, makes me wonder how much experience they really have, if any, and if they have jobs what are they doing here talking when they should be typing!  So if you ever worked for Futurenet and have a successful MT career with years of experience I'd love to hear from you.

I worked for FutureNet about 5 years ago, found all the leads, QA and supervision very professional and helpful, occasionally a little slow to get back to me.

Questions you need to ask are: What platform are they using. I believe they own/developed iType, an internet platform, but you do have to be in charge of downloading voice files and deleting the ones that are done. Not overly time consuming but when you are production all time saving counts. I would classify it as a bit "clunky."

Ask specifically what accounts and then some research here if moderator will allow it. They have some hospitals in the California that are overrun with ESLs, some of them really bad dictators.

Five years ago they were generous with the line rates but those times may have changed.

Good luck on your interview.

Thanks so much for the info! Mostly I am just tired of running out of work lately. Sometimes I am not so sure it is worth switching transcription jobs. After all that time saving templates, really knowing your doctors, even the bad dictators, and to start over seems overwhelming. I love my job, just worried about the lack of work lately. I hear we have an India company coming on board to type discharges and that is frightening for the future.

I wasn't going to say anything, but - I just had to

"Also, I prefer to hear from transcriptionists with a work history too. It seems there are lots of MTs with too much time to spare on this board, makes me wonder how much experience they really have, if any, and if they have jobs what are they doing here talking when they should be typing!"

They have the time to be on here because a lot of MTs in this industry are in the same boat as your are with your current employer....running out of work. Just because someone is on here doesn't mean that they do not have any work history or are being lazy as you hinted at. If you actually read the board you would see this main theme threaded through the messages. Everyone worried about how they are going to pay their bills and getting dinged on their paychecks and having benefits taken away because they can't make their line counts due to NO JOBS AVAILABLE!

Geesh!

and also consider we do not work 24 by 7 - we DO have down time

[ In Reply To ..]
Such cattiness, my oh my!

glad you spoke up on this - "recurring" NO JOBS - .

[ In Reply To ..]
This is the reason they are on the board. If they HAD work, would not be here, now would they? complaining

Also, ask is this position voice recognition. I believe I have read this on their job ads. I would not get into this at all, but your call. Perhaps, you can handle "For a TIME" getting a part time and work both. I would not feel easy about giving up a 4 year, knowing the dictators, acct specifics etc. to go to ANY place to start over, who knows if they or you will match in 3 months. Then what.

Would NOT put all of my eggs in one basket with FN . . . sm - mt

[ In Reply To ..]
I did that and regretted it. I am now back parttime with them but I really do not understand why they are hiring. Futurnet hires transcriptionists who actually then subcontract out their work, so they really have no idea how many people are working for them. When I get the "morning count" the numbers are never significant enough to make me believe they need more MTs. They're typical. You don't work because there is none and then you get an email saying you didn't meet quota. WOULD NOT RELY ON THEM FOR A LIVING. Part-time, a little extra $$ no biggie.

P.S., yes, they are all very nice, little slow to respond like she said above, but super nice people - mt

"Super nice people", however, does NOT pay the bills...nm - BTDT RUN VERY FAST!

Per ad, $12 for QA. I think that says a lot about them. - nm

and the account I am on is pretty decent but day after day I am out of work. In fact I am looking for something to replace them. Yeah we get emails all the time saying we're behind and that is true but within a day we're caught up and out of work again. I have to work my schedule around them and sit here and wait for work. I think they are pretty decent to work for but yes, I am CONSTANTLY out of work :(

Okay, that answers it. At least I can make a living with my current job. Thanks for all the replies!

FUTURENET VR EDITORS - Marilyn

I'd love to hear from anyone who works or has worked for Futurenet as a VR editor. Can you make a decent living doing that with them or do you constantly run out of work doing this as well? Thanks!

Their VR program is really, really bad, believe it is even the Dragon which is pretty dated. They are trying to get their accounts switched to M*Modal but that is not happening quickly and some of the accounts, per the director herself, will NOT change. The pay for VR work is half of whatever they hire you for regular work, i.e. if they hire you at 10/line for regular work, it is 5/line for VR. Getting enough lines in to make any bonus is impossible any more, either in VR or regular typing. Again, NO JOB AVAILABLE comes up more often than not.

Your post is a couple weeks old but hope it all went well. FutureNet is decent as far as companies go but it is true that of late they are running out of work. They do keep the long time employees busy if they can but I am seeing the work progressively get less and less. I have to assume it is because they are over-staffing which they said they will not do but when the worked piled up immediately after the holidays last year, well, they needed to get more people and yes, that is a typical e-mail from the work flow supervisor when the work load was high. Recent ads show they are looking for MTs with MModal experience and from what I have heard, they will be trying to convert as many of their accounts as possible to that platform. Hope your interview with Rita was good - she is a decent person, unfortunately she would not be your supervisor if you were hired as a regular MT. The VR supervisor is great and wonderful to work with though. Still have to wonder where all the work has gone though. Counts as of this morning are 0 jobs in most accounts.

FutureNet - What Is Up With Them
Jun 11, 2010

Not sure what is up with them.  They have several ads again but there is absolutely no work for us long timers.  Suspect they are hiring newbies and paying less to get the work done.  BTW, do not ever expect an increase in line rate.  You will NEVER get one.  Also do not expect to attain those bonuses they talk about in the ads - they have now made it impossiible to reach that level by maknig work unavailable, once you get close to making the bonus you can expect to see no work available ...

If Anyone On Here Uses FutureNet
Sep 25, 2012

Wondering if anyone on here uses FutureNet (possibly the glitchiest, most annoying transcription software ever created).  I use it at work.  When I started using it, it seemed to have a pretty good medical dictionary in it -- recognized all the medical terminology and almost all of the drugs, so I ASSUMED that all that was included.  So now we have a newbie, and when SHE uses FutureNet, it marks every single drug as an error (red wavy line), as well as all the medical terms.  I'm to ...
