FutureNet in California - Marilyn

Posted: May 13, 2010

Does anyone presently work for or in the recent past worked for FutureNet out of California? They are currently hiring and I would like to know of anyone's experience working for them either as an MT or an Editor. Do they have plenty of work, pay on time, nice to work for, is the pay rate decent, etc.  Yes, I have searched the Archives, but would like more recent information if available. Thanks in advance to anyone who can supply this.

I worked there a long time ago. I constantly ran out of work. The pay was not bad. I was constantly getting phone calls and emails about every little thing even phone calls on Saturdays. The QA was not as nice as they could be. Hopefully they have changed over the years. Good Luck.

Former FutureNet MT - My time with FutureNet

I had a friend who liked them, worked for them the last 10 years she worked before she retired. I worked for them briefly and suffered from some of the worst dictators I had encountered. Accounts heavy, heavy with ESL. Their program at that time was iType and it is still not as efficient or productive and some of the more current platforms.

QA was sometimes "snippy," but I believe that may have been only one of the QA team. She may not even be with them now (this was from 10 years ago).

I think you need more current information than I can give you other than the ESL accounts (I believe they still have them) and the iType program.

Futurenet - Current Futurenet MT

I am a current Futurenet MT. This is my second time with them. The first time I was on a heavy ESL acct and got paid extra because it was about 90% ESL. THis time around I have some accts with ESL but my primary has very rare ESLs. I have to say I really like working here (I worked at another big national before that gets blasted on here with good reason.) For the most part I rarely run out of work (there there have been occasions but the last time was around Christmas time), the people are very nice to work for, I rarely get a phone call. Emails used to be excessive but they have cut down on them also. Pay is above average. As long as you do your work and pitch in now and again they are very good to you...at least that has been my experience, YMMV.

GREAT TO HEAR! - Marilyn

Thanks so much "Current FutureNet" MT for replying. I know they are hiring right now so I wanted some current info before applying! Glad to know you have worked for them twice and really like it now. Think I might give it a whirl and apply! Thanks again so much for the information!

Hey, Kiki, And Other California MTs
Mar 02, 2010

I, too, live in California.  I'm a level-3 MT, getting mostly ESLs and other difficult dictators.  I've brought my QA percentage down from 22 to 20% but it's impossible for me to go any lower with what I'm being routed.  It looks like our job description has changed dramatically.  Because of these new changes imposed by corporate, I'll now be getting paid 3 cents less through no fault of my own, but a different job description, not what I was hired to ...

Working In California? Info You Need To Know.
Mar 19, 2011

If you are an employee working in California with an employer in another State you need to be aware of the State of California Labor Laws. I worked for a company in FL and worked overtime for several months. They did not want to pay me time and a half. I made a phone call to the Labor Department and had my back overtime pay and penalties paid within one week. I had the same come up when I was laid off last month. I waited to get my last check for two weeks and then remembered about the ...
