Deceptive hiring practices? - IMO Most Definitely

Posted: May 26, 2013

FYI, when negotiating with potential employer, DO pin them down in detail about how they pay for *editing*.

My recent experience: Offered job paying 8 cents straight typing (which there is not much of), and 4 cents for editing. I was aware up front that the edited line was considered 1-1/2 *regular lines*, or 97.5 characters (Visible Black, of course) constituted an edited line.

Most recent information regarding this pay, their software was not able to calculate the 97.5 rate for editing, so there is a *formula* which is used to derive the amount of pay. According to my calculations with a plugged line count, the MT/ME/MLS or whatever the hell we're called these days is STILL GETTING THE SHAFT.

Thanks for letting me share, and wish everyone a great holiday weekend.

Forgot to mention that pay calculates to - About 2.125 CPL nm

When you said VBC on top of all that, I was thinking that's like, what, 2 cpl?! - before seeing next post

Please say what company this is. You may be saving some from a boatload of awful.

WHAT? We now know MT cant edit as fast as ST. But - now MTSO want to pay less SM

[ In Reply To ..]
for editing??!! They already DO pay us less for editing.

They shafted us first with the lie we can edit as fast as type. Now they want to shaft us with a lower line ct for edited line?? That is why our pay is so low now. WIth the lie we can edit faster came lower pay rate because of that. Now they want to say an edited line is worth less characters than a typed line? They are sure getting creative about ways to cheat us.

Guess they figure nobody will work for 2cpl so instead make - a line 97,.5 character instead of 65. nm

Have any new hires reminded this MTSO it was a lie - that we can edit faster than type? SM

And dont we still have to listen to every word? Who is this MTSO?

Am I reading this right? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
They offered you editing at 4 cpl for a 97.5 character line?! I would have declined the minute I heard that.

A 97.5 character VBC line, no less. - nm

Need to refrain from free labor - Angie

[ In Reply To ..]
They reduced our pay more than 50%, therefore they should not expect more than half the job we used to do, right?

For our free labor for bookkeeping, dictation discrepancies, searches for new drugs vs. mispronunciations, spell doctors names as dictated without first names. Don't add title (FNP, MD) if not dictated. Just send all demographic errors to QA - we don't have time for that crap anymore. They need to finally get what they pay for and even without the freebies they have been accustomed to, it's a big stretch to make minimum wage!

Precyse Hiring Practices
Feb 07, 2013

Hi everyone:)  This is in reference to the message left about applying for work at Precyse.  One MT stated that their hiring practices left a lot to be desired and she took the test and felt she wasted her time.  I am now among the ranks of those that tried and didn't make it.  I took the test, and looked over everything carefully and felt I had done a good job.  I took the job in the late evening and not even 1 hour later I got a message that I was not a "good fit ...

RE: DISABILITY AND HIRING/FIRING PRACTICES
Mar 20, 2014

Hi, I was just pondering something: This does not apply to me personally, but I was curious as to whether any company, say MModal, Nuance, etc. have ever laid off any disabled employees, like visually impaired, paraplegic, etc. due to quality of work or whatever. I was curious if they have employees who work for them who are disabled in this way and if they have ever terminated any of them, what kind of legal trouble could they make?   ...

Voice Recognition Vs Transcribing, Unjust Hiring Practices
Mar 21, 2011

Over the past four months I have been hired by companies ***** after passing all the necessary tests and background checks as a medical  transcriptionist.  Each and every time I was offered $ 0.9/line, told I would have very little voice recognition if any which, would pay anywhere from $0.3 to 0.5/line. Once I get onboard and through training, I find out 90% is voice recognition!!  I am applying for medical transcriptionist jobs - not Editor, QA, or Speech. I have been in t ...

QA And Feedback Practices
Oct 03, 2011

I was wondering what others think about this.  When QA sends feedback at my company, the feedback is also sent to all regional manager and all the team leaders in that region. I think this creates unnecessary embarassment and humiliation for the MT getting the feedback and I feel this practice is unfair, especially when they are not critical errors. Feedback is supposed to be helpful and encourage the MT to improve and step up their game but when it is done th ...

Shady Practices
Apr 02, 2013

I recently got 'promoted' to MME, having taken the test with the understanding that I would receive a 5% pay raise to my transcription and VR base rates (according to MM intranet MME FAQs document).  But the recent e-mail we received, asking tier-3 MTs to become MMEs, says we are "eligible to be considered for" a pay raise.  What?  Does that mean my raise is going to be raffled off or something?  Feels like bait and switch, and just another example of sketchy practi ...

Did Anyone Else Get Get An F11 Best Practices Email?
Apr 10, 2013

I F11`d a report a few weeks ago and now I got a generic F11 best practices email. It states the only acceptable use of F11 is an exception listed in a CP. I have never seen that in a CP! I have also found, besides being very inefficiently written, many CPs are out of date, i.e., states you must do certain things that have since changed. It is SO frustrating! The document was such a hot mess that I had to retype it as 90% of the ASR was garbage. ...

HUH MQ Hiring?
Sep 05, 2011

WTF is going on?  I am no longer an MT, but I still care about a lot of people who are still TRYING to work at the Q.  Just popped over to mtjobs and the Q has an ad on there for MTs wishing to embark on a world class....etc.  It's unacceptable that the Q doesn't let anyone know what is going on at the MT level, starve out all the experienced ones they "acquired," then offshore to Inida and hire a bunch of newbies.  I don't have any idea what sort of game they ...

TTS Hiring Again?
Mar 06, 2012

I want to work a part time job to supplement my other part time job at Nuance because sometimes there is no work.  I see an opening at TTS but when reviewing posts about TTS it sounds like a bad place to work with incompetent recruiters and managers.  It seems 95% of the posts are bad regarding TTS.  I am leery about working for a company that keeps advertising for help, especially if it isn't a large one like Nuance or MQ.  Is this a good company where there is work or ...

Anyone REALLY Hiring
Oct 05, 2012

Are any decent MTSOs actually hiring ICs... and I mean IC in the traditional meaning of the word; not locked into some arbitrary schedule design, but a daily line committment.  I have 10 years experience.  The company I was working for no longer has the account I was working on.  They have given me some pick up work here and there, but I can't live on $100 a week or less from odd jobs while they find something new and steady. They estimate it may take 60-90 days for that to h ...

Anyone Really Hiring?

Does any one know of a company that is TRULY hiring?   The small company I worked for no longer has the account I was.  They have nothing steady for me to do right now.  Christmas is coming and I have 5 kids and everything is going wrong (septic tore up, car tore up, etc.).   There are tons of posts for Nuance, Softscript, etc.... How Do MTSOs Get Away With Hiring Only ICs.
Dec 17, 2009

Is this just a scam so that employers don't have to pay benefits and employer taxes?  I bet if there was an audit, most ICs and MTSOs would be in trouble for using that classification improperly, especially for the full-time positions. I even applied for a full-time secretarial job in a small law office recently, and was told I would be hired as a contractor with no benefits.  I was stunned and declined.  I need to check with the labor department to see if some of my concern ...
