? about lost reports/lines - ac

Posted: Oct 25, 2009

I just recently started with a company that I am overall happy with, but they seem to have a lot of errors with their computer program and we lose reports.  My concern is that we get absolutely no compensation for these lost reports and are just basically told "so sorry; it doesn't happen often."  I just typed a 3 page report that was just lost and have been on the phone on hold with the Help Desk for 30 minutes and for this almost hour I will not be compensated.  My old company (which I hated) did not do this and I am wondering if this is the "normal" or we are being unfairly taken advantage of.  I guess I am just nervous because I really do like working for this company, but I also feel a little resentful about the computer problems that happen quite often and when we spend time with the Help Desk or having to retype a report due to no fault of our own, we get no compensation.  Anyway, just wanted to vent and see if anyone has any similar situation.  Thanks!

If you could give the name of the company or the name of the platform you work on, someone could probably provide you with an answer.

Is this Teletrak? - .

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked for Teletrack for a time and this happened to often and yep, not paid for it. Would SEND and lost. Long, detailed, difficult dictators. To much time spent with tech support or whoever. Total waste. Bad system in my opinion. MTs don't have time to keep messing with system problems, each time take keys off keyboard, we go down the tubes moneywise.

Is this TransPortal? - anon

I just recently left this company because of this... Scribe platform was awful! Never knew what my line count was, reports would mysteriously get credited to other MTs, or just plain 'ole wouldn't show up in the system. Otherwise, everything else about the company was fine, but I'm not going to work anyplace where I feel like I'm getting cheated or short-changed for work I do...

My old company offered for me to come back, so I'm going back to them since work has picked back up.

It isn't either company mentioned, and I don't want to say really because I am still new and don't want to make waves. I guess I was just wondering if this was the "norm" for this kind of thing. I had worked for 16 years at one hospital and we were always given downtime and credit for lost reports so this is a new concept for me to deal with and I just don't think it is fair, but after being outsourced by my hospital I am finding lots of things that are not fair, which is why I just need to deal with things, I guess. Anyway, thanks to those who responded!

Not so with Transportal - Stillmting

[ In Reply To ..]
I work with Transportal on the Scribe platform. You can track your lines for completed reports, you cannot for reports you send to QA, so unless you are sending an inordinate amount of reports to QA you'd see your lines. I've always been paid for every report, nothing has ever been "lost". And it was recently explained to you how to figure out if you were typing in another MTs report and frankly, you should have been able to figure out you were in a report already claimed by another MT. I know this isn't germaine to the question of this thread, but I get tired of hearing companies bad-mouthed because an MT can't carry their own weight.

To the original poster- Have you talked to your supervisor about the lost reports? Are you an employee or a contractor?

How do you know what was explained to who? And how do you know whether or not I was carrying my weight? I would not assume to know such things about the poster without knowing who the poster was...

I do not like the fact that other MTs can get into and (if they are dishonest) manipulate another MTs file. No one should have access to the files after being completed except the QA. The Scribe platform is too open to anyone. An MT got into a file I had done and sent to QA. My supervisor emailed me to advise me to be sure to close out my files correctly as another MT was completing it and would get credit for it. I keep track of all of my files. I found the ID number of the file in question and KNEW FOR A FACT I had closed it out correctly. That MT had no business in my file! I let my supervisor know, and she got the MT out of it. When I went back into it, it was exactly how I left it with no need of anyone else being in it except for the QA personnel.

Now, don't tell me other MTs can't sneak and get credit for MY lines! I don't trust the platform, and I can't work someplace where I can't trust the platform or other MTs.

Softscript?

MTs need to be "making waves" when this type of thing happens; otherwise, it will never be corrected and will likely get worse and worse.

It is an absolute abuse by those men and women working as team leads, directors, etc., at the MTSOs.

"...which is why I just need to deal with things, I guess."
ABSOLUTELY WRONG. If you go along with this type of abuse, you are part of the problem rather than the solution.

You will find that MTSOs are nothing like working at a hospital. Pay and benefits will not be anywhere in the ballpark of what you will get at a hospital. Management will, more often than not, be faceless and unaccountable and therefore will do things they likely would not if they worked in an office setting with you.

What do you mean by lost? - Webber

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you mean that the report is lost and you have to start typing the same job over again? If so, you could copy and paste the report into Wordpad or Notepad before sending so that if it didn't go through and got "lost" you could just cut and paste instead of having to start all over again. You could easily make a macro with your expander or an AutoHotKey Script that would copy each report and paste it for you so that it would be there if your report got lost in transit while you were trying to send it. I would be glad to help you create the macro or AHK script if you need help (just e-mail back to this post). Of course, you would have to delete these copies after your report was successfully sent so that you are not storing confidential information on your computer. Our company used to have this problem until they made a better restore option, and we can get our reports back now if they are "lost."

By lost, I mean just that. Your idea is definitely a good one, but I guess I would have to remember to keep saving throughout the report because when the system knocks you out, there is no warning; it doesn't always happen at the end of a report. I just lost another portion of a report today (luckily not too far into report!); just all of a sudden got an error and it closed itself, and then I logged back in and started the report over. Your idea is good, though; I'm just not sure about me actually remembering to keep saving throughout each report. Something to consider, definitely, and thanks for the advice!

I have problems with my connection, signing off jobs and downloading jobs. My computer gets stuck on their website, but when I sign on to other websites, I don't have that problem. I told them it was there fault and they did not respond, saying yea or nay. They compensated me for my report because I pitched a fit.

Is It True That FOCUS, Only Counts Half Of Your Lines When Calculating VR Lines?
Jan 30, 2012

if you make 4 cents per line at 1000 lines a day, they really calculate it at 500 lines per day x 4 cents, making it really 2 cents per line for the full 1000.   I heard this, and I am really interested in knowing if it is true. ...

Told Nuance Was Overcharging For Lines, Now Lines Drastically Reduced
May 02, 2012

My main account was a good one, and the lines were very good, mostly ER work. I have been on this account for over a year and a half now. We recently received an e-mail stating that Nuance had discovered that the line count was charging incorrectly, as instituted by them, and they had been crediting us with MORE lines than we were actually doing and overcharging the client. Now get this, they informed us that they would not make US pay it back, for their mistake, but that our new lines would re ...

TransTech Lines - Required Hours But Are Short Lines?
Jun 10, 2011

What do you do when you have the required hours but are short lines? I got an email that I need to "make plans to have my shortage made up." The only problem is that I'm up to date with my hours for the pay period so far. The other problem is that I have plans Saturday night and Sunday (both being my scheduled time off) that don't include TransTech. It's getting harder and harder to defend this company when they can't hold up their end of the agreement and continually ...

TransTech Lines - How Many Lines Do You Average During The Day/week?
Jan 19, 2011

Just wondering if the TT MTs would like share ... how many lines do you average during the day/week?  I'm doing about 9,000 to 10,000 a week and wonder if I should be pushing myself more.  How much of your count is VR?  I do probably 15% traditional and 85% VR but that, of course, varies week to week.   ...

TransTech Lines - How Many Lines Do You Average Per Day
Jul 13, 2011

How many lines do you average per day - VR and traditional?  I know it's been VERY slow lately, but when things are going well, how many lines do you normally get? I'm trying to figure out where the average numbers are.  For me, I do about 350 trad and about 1400 VR in 8 hours. Well, my timesheet says 8 hours, but my clock says that number MAY(!) be a little higher.  Again, these are numbers I pull when things are going well and I'm not waiting for work to download. NEW IC LOST AT SEA - Please Help - Sm
Jul 22, 2010

I need advice.  I have just recently gone from employee (for over 35 years) to independent contractor.  This has probably been asked or discussed before, but I never paid any attention to the discussions as it never pertained to me; now I wish I had read the posts.  I feel lost here.  I was hired in the usual manner, and told what my line rate would be.  I understand the part about no taxes taken out, no benefits, etc.  I was also told what hours/days they need ...

I Did My Best And Still Lost The Job

I trained for 5 days and was called today and told I was terminated. No explanation but their instructions on page breaks sucked and I had off and on problems with them. These companies are all about greed and do not want to take time to really train someone who really wants to learn their job. ...

Lost Job To EMR
Aug 16, 2012

After 14 years of transcribing for a medical practice, suddenly, without notice, I was "dumped."  My client implimented the required EHR mandated by President Obama.  I guess I was somewhat naive in not seeing this coming, but I assumed transcribed documents by a "real person" would still be wanted by my client.  Now I find myself at age 57 without work.  My next step is to inquire about verbatim transcription, but the idea of not correcting improper grammar and using "yeah" ...

Query About Those Who Have Lost The
Jan 06, 2014

It is quite a shock the first pay check? I have always made it - lost the QA one but that one always seemed to be half tax anyway, so did not mind so much, but now that will be $100 (typically was my production bonus) less for me a week and also no incentive whatsoever to type more per line OR any more at all. I am certainly NOT going to spend 3 months trying desperately to get "back on top" and get the production bonus again. It just seems so arbitrary, and the errors have been ramped up, both ...
