What is the best paying specialty to get into? I want to get into a good specialty but I want to make sure it is a good paying one if there are ones that pay better then others.

When an ad says Specialty: Any. What does that mean? If you have only done Radiology for years and only 2 or 3 years of acute care 20 years ago, would you feel comfortable applying for something as vague as "any specialty". Has anyone out there applied for a job specialty they have never done and still got through it? thank you ...
This is for an allergist/immunologist.

Does anybody know which MT specialty offers the best pay rate? I was told by one of my instructors that pathology and radiology were this highest paid MTs around. Another instructor thought that specializing in OP reports would offer the greatest income potential. Thanks ...
I have a pt with "EA" that I am trying to spell out in the assessment but I am not able to figure out what this could be for this pt. I know the pt has anoxic encephalopathy, dysphasia (or could be dysphagia-could be either with this pt) aphasia, respiratory failure, pneumonia.
Any suggestions what EA could be in this pt?

I am a big cardiology buff and would love to do only cardiology transcription. If anyone has knowledge of places that have a lot of cardio accounts, would you be kind enough to point me in their direction. You can e-mail if you don't want to put names in open. I can offer help in return too as able. TIA. ...
Hey I am possibly going to interview with a Cancer Institute and I have no experience in this area. I am a 7 year medical transcriptionist and had a 7 year job in a small pediatric clinic for 4 doctors. What should I do to prepare if I work here and what things should I study and bring with me to work if I get the job? ...
Nuance wants us to fill out another survey to tell them what areas we prefer (our specialties) and don't prefer. I've said I don't prefer operative reports, yet they seem to give me a lot of op reports. So what's the point? ...
There's a site I'd been referencing for a long time when I couldn't find a doctor through Fluency, which is often. It was always easy, user friendly and reliable, and I could usually find the doctor I was looking for under his or her specialty. Now it's been changed to a newer, sleeker pretty look, but the format for finding a doctor doesn't work and is not helpful at all. For instance, in looking up, say, Pulmonary doctors, it shows an assortment of doctors of variou ...

Can someone explain to me why, if I get paid by the line, I spend so much time looking up doctor names, facility names, the local burger joint, etc, but I don't get paid for that? ?? I am going to throw in the towel with transcription and look for a job that pays by the hour. This line stuff is a joke. Can't get up speed or stay with a rhythm for stopping to try to find names of people, places and things. ...
Anyone notice their W2 now actually says Nuance Transcription Services and no longer Transcend DBA Nuance...
Last year there were lots of comments about our W2's (all of us, not just those who came in from Transcend) saying Transcend. I even wrote HR to see what was up with that.
They never told us about the change to Transcend and certainly didn't mention the change back to Nuance. Oh well.
Just an observation. ...
For those "low-talkers" who won't spell the PA/PACs name, combined with my endless list of names, does anyone know the easiest way to just do a generic search for all of them?
It's exhausting!
Thanks, y'all! ...
Does anyone else ever have a problem with a doctor/nurse, etc. who sends out letters or just on regular reports who gives no complete names or addresses? We have a place to go look them up but it does sometimes take a chunk out of my time doing it. One or two minutes means a lot sometimes. I have one doctor who dictates letters to "Dr. Smith, Dr. Jones," etc. and there are only about 10 of each of those listed and sometimes you cannot tell what the specialty is to look it up.&n ...
When typing a name like Topicort - if it is cream or ointment, are those capitalized? Also Selsun shampoo - is the word shampoo capitalized? Thanks ...
So, this being the most friendly and up-to-date board around regarding MT practices, can I get some opinions about the HIPAA 'privacy rule' and your doctors using patient names in their notes, clinic or otherwise. I am not sure how an HIM department can say to a physician how using a patient name in a transcribed report is not going against the Privacy rule in HIPAA. This kind of stuff just irks me!!!Any comments?? Thanks in advance.... ...
99% of the wasted "down time" I have in my work day is trying to decipher doctor names, patient names, referral names, dictator names, resident/assistant names and I'm literally sick to death of it. From now on if I don't hear the name the VERY FIRST TIME it's said it's going to be LEFT BLANK. No more listening to it over and over and over and over trying to catch the first syllable or the last, or even a piece of the name - I sometimes spend 5 whole minutes PER R ...
I am pretty sure I read this in BOS but can't seem to find it now. Do you capitalize something like tetanus when it refers to the vaccine and not the actual condition? As in Tetanus Vaccine or Tetanus vaccine to prevent tetanus. ...
It must be too early. I've talked myself in and out of this but need a little help here. In names such as Martinez, when the sentence is, "she was sent from Dr. Martinez's office" is it Martinez's or Martinez'. Told you it was early. Would appreciate the help please. Thank you. ...

I have an opportunity to subcontract for a person who has accounts. She does not really have a "business" per se, e.g., no company name. She said she has hired nationally before and I was hoping to come here and ask if she paid on time, etc. But - I can't seem to find a way around it without naming names. ...
When do you capitalize departments? I have been in the biz for 10 years, and my current QA staff is giving me conflicting feedback on my capitalization. One QA manager is giving me errors for not capitalizing, the other is giving me errors when I do! I was always taught that you didn't capitalize the department unless it was preceded by the proper name of the hospital (XYZ Hospital Emergency Department, etc).
Also, as far as specialties, how do you handle those? For ...

Am I overly concerned or do you think I may have a point?
I think the Word Help Board is invaluable and have always helped whenever I 100% knew the correct spelling. But as I have been reading the questions, there seem to be more and more drug questions from drug lists, which means no point of reference. There are also a few “allergic to: sounds like” questions.
When I first started working as a Medical Transcriptionist, QA was always: “Leave a b ...
